A Message from Mr. H.

Save the Date

This week at Moreau Hall is Teacher Appreciation Week. It is a time to celebrate our teachers and acknowledge what an important job they do each day. I feel so very fortunate to be in a community like Moreau Hall. Our PAC and all the parent volunteers really do a wonderful job of supporting our school family and showing our faculty and staff just how much they appreciate them. We have built a great team here at our little school. Thank you to our Teachers! I am continuously impressed by what you do on a daily basis. It is an honor and privilege to watch you work.

Mr.  Dennison’s  Music  Notes

In  April,  first  grade  completed  a  group  of  songs  in  Spanish.  Students  are  encouraged  to  focus  on  the  sounds  of  the  different  language  as  they  sing,  then  we  discuss  the  meaning  of  the  text  in  English.  Songs  included  Tortillitas,  La  Ferria  de  San  Juan,  and  San  Serani.  Kindergarten  finished  a  group  of  “train”  songs  and  chants,  which  describe  the  different  parts  of  a  train.  We  also  worked  hard-‐-‐  Workin’  on  the  Railroad!  Second  grade  continues  to  prepare  for  the  end  of  the  year  chorus  concerts,  while  learning  some  dances  to  get  them  moving  during  music  time.   –Mr.  Dennison KINDER     Song:  The  Little  Train  of  the  Caipira   Concept/Activity:  Acting  out  the  parts  of  a  train

1st  GRADE   Song:  Bounce           Concept/Activity:  Bouncing  ball  with  the  beat

2nd  GRADE   Song:  Amacee,  Wallflowers     Concept/Activity:  Line  dance,  circle  dance

There are days as a teacher or a parent when you ask yourself, “Are my kids ‘getting’ this? Do they understand what I’m saying? Are these lessons falling on deaf ears?” Well today was not one of those days. Today was a day that proved our children listen to us, and maybe more importantly, watch how we live each day. Giuliana and Anthony Shepard (pictured left) set up a lemonade stand this past weekend and made a whopping $47.00! They then took the money to school to present to Ms. Police so it could be donated to the Easton Food Pantry. These students have been working all school year on their community service project with Easton Food Pantry and felt that their hard work should go to folks in need. I’m so proud of our Hawks each and every day, and especially on days like this when they show such kindness and selflessness.

Living our Core Values

Day of Kind“Ness” a Success! On Thursday, April 27th Seniors from Oliver Ames High School spread out all around the Town of Easton to give back to the community in honor of Devin Ness, an OA student who died unexpectedly in January of 2013. A group of Seniors, many of whom attended our school, came to Moreau Hall to weed, mulch, rake, and trim bushes. Mr. Hammond, our school custodian, and Mrs. Finch, our PAC Co-Chair, found plenty for them to do while they were here. Thank you to the Ness Family, Cindy Hall (Devin’s 4th grade teacher), and Wes Paul (OA Principal) for coordinating such a successful event that promotes community involvement and service. It sets such a wonderful example for our young students to see high schoolers giving back to their community in honor of Devin.

Our Moreau Hall Kindergarten classes will be coordinating their third and final ALL SCHOOL food drive during the month of May to benefit the Easton Food Pantry. This community service project provides an opportunity for our students to have a lasting impact on improving the community in which they live. Items can be brought in all month long! We will set a day at the end of the month to collect and delivery the items.

Some recommended items:

Canned pasta, boxed pasta, pasta sauce, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned soup, canned vegetables, canned tuna, and canned baked beans.

Thank you for your support!

Family Needs Assessment Data In order for our students to be able to do their best learning in school, they must feel safe and welcomed in their environment. This is something that Center School, Moreau Hall and Parkview take very seriously and something we work hard at establishing across our primary schools. This past February we asked all parents, across the three schools, about how we are doing with establishing school climates that promote the best in our students. We had 297 responders to this survey. Mr. Getchell, Mrs. Weintrob, and myself thought this would be a good time to share this data as we are very proud of the safe and supportive atmospheres we have established across our three schools. Below are the results from survey questions that asked our parents about our school climates as well as how we are doing in terms of meeting individual student needs.

PAC News Our next PAC meeting on Wednesday, May 10th is an important one! The Moreau Hall Parent Advisory Council is in need of Executive Board Members and volunteers for a great number of events. As some of our second grade parents leave our school it creates volunteer openings for many areas. The Moreau Hall Family needs your help! We are also in need of a great many volunteers for our annual Field Day on Friday, May 26th. This is a wonderful culminating event for our students and families and we hope you can join us. We are in particular need of Kindergarten parents to escort small groups of students around during the day. An up to date CORI needs to be on file with the school. Our PAC and parent volunteers help to make Moreau Hall a special place to learn. We appreciate your support!

Open Circle and Social Emotional Learning

Thanks to Mrs. Dutra and her class of Kindergarteners for our bright, informative bulletin board in the lobby. This new board showcases some key points and lessons from our Open Circle: Social Emotional Curriculum. Open Circle has been used in Easton for many years to help our students understand such topics as calm breathing, non-verbal signals, feelings, school listening look, dangerous and destructive behavior, and solving people problems. In addition to our Open Circle Curriculum, we have a section of the library that houses many children’s books based on the various themes found in the program. Mrs. Dutra’s class is pictured above modeling their Open Circle. There is always an extra chair in case a visitor comes by and would like to join the discussion.

Mrs. Police’s Kindergarteners welcomed a special guest on Friday. Teagan’s mom, Mrs. Gaito, visited the classroom to discuss her job with the Environmental Protection Agency. This all stemmed from a discussion Teagan had with her mom about the class learning about Earth Day. We love when our students go home each day and talk about what they learned! In this case, it gave us an opportunity to hear from an expert in the field. The students left with real life examples of how Kindergarteners can help keep our planet happy and healthy! Thank you Mrs. Gaito!

Thanks to a special guest!
