Copper blossomed in foster care with consistent meals, other dogs to play with, and no longer livinga lonely life outside. At his foster home he loved playing with the other dogs and would race aroundthe yard as fast as he could. He hadn’t grown into his long legs yet, so sometimes like a silly pup he’dget tripped up and down he’d go! Of course this never spoiled the game and he would jump rightup to resume the race. After a couple of months in foster care with his skin cleared up and his coatlling in, Copper was ready for adoption. He is now living the good life as part of a young and activefamily and has a playful dobersister as well!

Leaving a Legacy

Copper, healthy & handsome, with his new family

Teresa (Caudle) Sanders passed away peacefully at her home in Oneonta, Alabama last October at theage of 61. Teresa was a lifelong, passionate advocate for the well being of all animals.

She had a special anity for dogs and miniature donkeys, with much time and energy spent rescuingdogs. She transported many homeless dogs to rescue centers or to new homes from Mobile all theway north to Wisconsin where they would be loved.

Teresa was aware of HMDD’s tireless eorts on behalf of so many Dobermans in need and according toher wishes, after her passing we were bequeathed a very generous donation to help us continue our mission. Sadly we never hadthe opportunity to meet this seless and devoted woman from Alabama, let alone thank her for her generosity. It is obvious sheclearly understood that doing what’s right and rescuing dogs regardless of age and medical condition comes with a very high price.

Teresa left a nal message that “Everyone can do something to help save lives. You reap a wonderful feeling in your heart that Godbestows on you for doing what you can to help His creatures.” We are grateful for Teresa’s philanthropic vision and gift to help us continue our mission to rescue, rehabilitate and place Dobes into loving, forever homes.

Our sincere condolences go out to the family and dear friends of this amazing woman. Even after death Teresa continues to be aninspiration to others and a beacon of light and hope for the sick, injured, aged dogs left with no where to go.

Hand Me Down Dobes is grateful to all that support our worthy cause, giving us the resources needed to helpdogs left with no where to go. With your generosity we can continue to rescue dogs regardless of age or medicalcondition, giving them the best care possible and placing them into loving, forever homes.

Proper nutrition is essential for helping animals maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. The food we choose for our pets can have a signicant impact on quality and quantity of life. Not only is nutrition a vital link in the chain of preventative care, but it can also aect a pet’s response to disease and injury. Sometimes a dog food that was considered high quality ten years ago may no longer hold up to currentknowledge about pet nutrition. Chemicals, preservatives, dyes and other non-supportive elements in lower quality foods require the dog’skidneys and liver to work hard removing these toxins from their system. At the same time, the dog may feel full from eating llers orbyproducts but not get the nourishment his body needs.

The Doberman is a working breed that needs a high quality food to fuel his alert, active lifestyle. We encourageyou to visit dogfoodadvisor.com and choose a 4 or 5 star dog food for your pet. Our foster dogs are fed a 4star food which is an important step in their journey towards improved health. Of course there is no single typeor brand of food that’s best for all pets. Age, activity level and any medical conditions must always be considered.

The Benefits of Proper Nutrition

When cost is a concern, remember that the more digestible the food with more available nutrients, the less thedog needs to eat. Not only does the dog food last longer but there is also less waste in the yard to clean up! Mostagree adult dogs should be fed two times daily but the quantity of food must be appropriate for the dog’s ageand activity level. Overweight pets can suer many of the same health issues as hefty humans and obesity is a seriousmedical problem for dogs in the U.S. today.

Most of us would agree that the saying “You are what you eat” is basically true. Remembering what our mom’s told us combined withcurrent research makes virtually everyone aware that eating a balanced diet along with appropriate, consistent exercise is good for you.Experts agree that the same holds true for our pets.
