A guide to editing yourstudentsunion.com sports and societies pages

After you have registered on the website (and told us you have registered), we will make you an Admin of your Club or Society so you can edit the pages and add news and events.

The first thing to do is login (click the button in the header at the top left). Once you have done this your four options will appear at the top of the page.

If you select admin you will have a drop down menu appear and from here, you will be able to click on your Society

Once you have reached the admin area you have a few options.

Edit Details

This lets you change some basic information about your club which will appear in your web pages. We have put some notes in this page to help make it clearer.

Website Pages

This lets you edit your pages or add more.

If you want to edit your homepage or make another page below it select the box and click either edit or create child page.

If you want to edit another page you have already made, then click the plus symbol and all your pages will appear and you can select whichever one you want to edit. Once selected, click the edit button at the top of the site map.

If you are making a new page (by selecting Create Child Page) you will get this screen:

Page Name should be lower case as it will form the link to your page.

Page title will be what appears in the navigation sidebar on your page, like so:

(unless you un-tick Display Links, then it will not appear unless you link to it from another webpage or an email).

Once you have made your page you will get to a visual editor where you can add content:

I wouldn’t worry too much about the top section unless you really want to get into some detailed page editing.

Have a play with the editor. The main buttons you may want to use are:

Link for adding web links, documents (pdf and word) and email addresses.

Image for adding pictures. The width of the column is 460 pixels but if you do upload bigger pictures you can resize tem.

Format for changing the size of your text (i.e. Titles, subtitles, and body text).

Once you have finished editing press SAVE / EXIT and this will give you the option to publish your page or save it to keep working on and publish at a later date.

If you are happy with the updates, click Publish. If you are not, click Reset, or Stop Editing. Each button has a description in case you are unsure. See below:

News

This lets you add news to the site which will appear in your pages and you can also set to appear on your homepage, and in the sports and societies areas of the website so other students can see the article.

You can either edit articles you have already uploaded or click on Add New Article to make a new one. We have added some notes to the Add new article page to help out.

Finally

There is one further shortcut to be aware of. If you are on any page you can edit or that has your news articles or event lists on it; an edit article button will appear in the edit dropdown from the header. This will allow you to go in and edit the article using the same visual editor as when creating an article.

This is really handy if you are looking at a page, event or news article and want to edit it there and then.

If you have any further queries about editing your page, feel free to email the SU with the subject title ‘Web editing query’ - [email protected]
