Consider/Approve a Resolution of the Floyd County Board of Education Authorizing the Superintendent to Enter Into An Agreement with the Department for Local Government for the Project listed below, to Execute Any Documents Which are Deemed Necessary by the DLG to Facilitate These Projects and to Act as the Authorized Correspondent for Projects: FY 15- D044- Floyd County Board of Education-Technology Implementation $50,000; FY 16- D044- Floyd County Board of Education-Technology Implementation $50,000.

    Floyd County Schools The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM by Mr. Jeff Stumbo, Board chair. Let the record show that the following board members were present at this meeting: Mr. Jeff Stumbo, Ms. Rhonda Meade, and Ms. Sherry Robinson. Ms. Linda Gearheart and Dr. Chandra Varia was not present at this meeting. Also present was Dr. Henry Webb, superintendent. NOTE: Mr. Stumbo welcomed everyone to the meeting, reminding those that wished to address the board to sign the clip board at the front. He then led the group in a moment of silent reflection: “Why are we here?”

  • NOTE: Mr. Webb read the Agenda into the record, noting that there were three he wished to add to the Agenda:

    (Item 6-FF) Agreement with Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center to work collaboratively with Floyd County Board of Education (Item 6-GG) Create an Instructional Assistant Position at McDowell Elementary (Item 6-HH) approve financing the KSBIT Insurance Assessment for 15 years using KISTA

    Ms. Meade made the motion and Ms. Robinson seconded the motion to adopt the Agenda adding (Item 6-FF) Agreement with Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center to work collaboratively with Floyd County Board of Education; (Item 6-GG) Create an Instructional Assistant Position at McDowell Elementary; and (Item 6-HH) approve financing the KSBIT Insurance Assessment for 15 years using KISTA.

    recognized for perfect attendance from kindergarten to 12th grade.

    Ms. Meade made the motion and Ms. Robinson seconded the motion to receive the report on Healthy Floyd County 2013-2014 Dental/Oral Health Action Team.

    There was an affirmative vote by all board members present to approve the motion. The motion carried.

    Ms. Meade made the motion and Ms. Robinson seconded the motion to receive the report of the Superintendent.

    Mr. Stumbo made the motion and Ms. Meade seconded the motion to approve Prestonsburg Elementary School to work with Bumblebee Fundraising in a school-wide fundraiser.

    Floyd County Board of Education Policy #9.33 – fundraising activities – all school-wide fundraising activities must be approved by the Board of Education. The additional funding generated through the fundraiser will help improve the instructional opportunities for students and help provide needed supplies. The sale will take place August 20 – September 5, 2014.

  • The profits from the sale will be used for instructional supplies, Accelerated Reader Program and other necessary supplies.

    Mr. Stumbo made the motion and Ms. Meade seconded the motion to approve the purchase of Discovery Progress Zone and Predictive Assessments for all student in grades K-2 at each school.

    Board Policy 01.11 General Powers and Duties of the Board. The Discovery assessments is an assessment program that Floyd County has used in the past to assess students in K-2nd Grade. These scores have been used to determine what students know and what they need to learn. Assessing students in the early primary grades is important to measure the progress of students.

    Mr. Stumbo made the motion and Ms. Meade seconded the motion to approve May Valley Elementary PTO fundraisers: T-shirt sales, RADA knife sales, cake sales and Santa shop.

Therapeutic services will be billed to each child’s medical card, insurance, or to any grant monies available at MCCC. Therapists are provided a room in which to work at each school served.

During the March meeting of the Floyd County Board, the newly created evaluation plan was adopted. Since that time, more recommendations, suggestions, and requirements have come from the Kentucky Department of Education thus requiring changes to our approved document.
