Harbour Crane Model 6 High Performance for Higher Handling Rates

At special transhipment sites and in multipurpose terminals, thedemands placed upon efficientcargo-handling equipment areincreasing. The equipment usedshould be high-performance, reliable, profitable and environmentallyfriendly.

In search of the best in terms of performance, function and costs, many terminal operators prefer thegreatest possible versatility of handlingequipment to specific specialisation.

Gottwald Mobile Harbour CranesAs all-purpose, high-performancecargo-handling machines for a broadrange of applications, diesel-electricMobile Harbour Cranes made byGottwald feature:■ mobility■ versatility■ flexibility■ economy.

In addition, Gottwald Mobile HarbourCranes boast a comparatively lowcapital outlay and short delivery lead-times compared to custom-made cargo-handling equipment and offer economical solutions forhandling cargoes such as: ■ containers■ bulk materials■ general cargo■ project cargoes.

Model 6 cranes stand out as high-performance, high-

functionality machines – universally applicable tools

benefitting terminal operatorsas realistic alternatives to

custom-built machinery

All-Rounder for Increasing DemandsModel 6 is a universal high-performancecrane for the growing challenges and increasing volumes of special and multipurpose terminals. Depending onthe variant, Model 6 is designed for alifting capacity of 120 tonnes at a radiusof up to 18 m and 100 tonnes at aradius of up to 24 m; it is also equippedfor especially high hoisting speeds.

The Harbour Crane Generation 5The outstanding features ofGottwald's current Harbour Crane Generation 5 apply equally to Mobile Harbour Cranes, rail-mounted Portal Harbour Cranes and barge-mounted Floating Cranes.

This crane generation, according toGottwald's philosophy "You Name it,We Crane it", is based on a pioneeringmodular design principle and thuspurposefully meets very individualcustomer requirements in terms ofmaximum lifting capacity, liftingcapacity curve, hoisting speed, driveperformance and handling rates.

Harbour Crane Model 6Designed to withstand the rigours of high-end use, Model 6 is aHarbour Crane for high-performanceapplications and high handling rates– assured by lifting capacities of upto 120 tonnes, working radii of up to51 m and very high hoisting speedsof up to 120 m/min. Added to this

are the usual high crane classifications, such as A7 for a 50-tonne grab curveor A8 for a 40-tonne grab curve.

These outstanding features make this crane model the ideal choice for universal and special terminalsservicing container vessels up to thePost-Panamax size and bulk carriersup to Capesize. The principle areas of application include high-end, high-speed container handling, also including twinlift mode and pro-fessional, continuous bulk handling.Model 6 is also well suited to terminalsperforming a significant number ofheavy-load lifts.

Operating Gottwald Harbour Cranes directly with power from the shore power supply offers:■ an increase in the degree of efficiency

resulting in lower costs■ a significant reduction in exhaust gases

and noise levels in the terminal

Model 6 stands in the proud traditionof Mobile Harbour Crane technologyproven more than a thousand timesover. The field-tested aspects includeDC-powered hoists and slewing geardrive units for smooth accelerationand deceleration of main cranemovements, the proven chassis withH-shaped stabiliser arrangement, large tyres and maintenance-freeequaliser beams for large verticalcompensation.

Gottwald has enhanced all this withinnovative features such as crabsteering for ideal manoeuvrabilityand automation of frequently repeatedcrane movements such as propping.

Electric Drives: Economical and Environmentally-FriendlyModel 6 is cost-effective, energy savingand efficient. High-performancediesel-generator sets with capacities

of up to 1,112 kW develop thedynamics that ensure high workingspeeds for high handling capacities. The excellent degree of efficiencyand long maintenance intervals minimise operating costs. Ports andthe environment profit twofold fromlow exhaust and sound emissions. With Model 6, Gottwald also meetsthe strict requirements of Directive2000/14/EC to further reduce noiselevels.

It is also possible to make use of an external power source sinceGottwald cranes already use electrical drive technology and thedrive units can also be operateddirectly with power from the on-shore power supply. No wonder that this environmentally-friendlydrive system most commonly used in ports brings to the fore its advantages over other systems.

Quick, Safe and Easy – for High Handling RatesModel 6 represents a perfect alliance of performance, safety and ergonomics. The intuitive, easy operation complemented byhigh working speeds permits thecrane operator to achieve high handling rates.

The load guidance system, availableas an option, ensures even safer andmore convenient operation withsuch features as: ■ linear load motion■ load antisway ■ point-to-point handling mode and■ hoisting height limiting system.

Acoustic and optical warning signalsand redundant computer systems for hoist switch-off, for example, are representative of the high safetystandard of Gottwald products.

Efficient Use of Energy – Cuts Costs and Protects theEnvironmentGottwald cranes use electrical drivetechnology which means they usethe energy source most commonlyfound in ports, are economical and ecologically compatible. Thediesel-generators fitted on-boardguarantee optimum efficiency, thelowest possible fuel consumptionand minimum exhaust emissions.

Since they are already designed to be powered by electricity,Gottwald Harbour Cranes are perfectly suited to external powerfrom the terminal's own mainssupply. This improves the efficiencyof the machines still more. In addition, this cuts exhaust gasesfrom the cranes to zero and has the added advantage of considerably reducing noise levels, with the corresponding positivecontribution to a terminal's ecologyrating.

With their electric drive concept,Gottwald machines are ideallyplaced to make use of alternative,environmentally-aware generatedelectrical energy which is, today, already being harvested from thewind, sun and geothermal sourcesand fed into the power grids

Perfectly ConceivedBy the World Market Leader in Mobile Harbour Crane Technology

The investment in Harbour Cranes isbased upon numerous factors. Theyinclude infrastructure considerationssuch as admissible quayside loadings, track gauges and power supplyequipment. In addition, the range of application, type of use, liftingcapacity and number of annual crane operating hours must beincluded in the investment decision.

InfrastructureHarbour Cranes made by Gottwaldcan be integrated into a diverserange of infrastructures and adaptedto meet individual requirements.Possible adaptations and custom features range from individuallydesigned stabiliser pads for quayswith low admissible quay loadings to equipment for an external powersupply and solutions for particularlytight clearances and individuallydesigned portals and barges.

Very Short Delivery Lead-Times With its advance order programmefor Harbour Cranes that generouslyallows for individual customerrequirements, Gottwald meets thedemands of terminal operators forespecially short delivery lead-times.At the same time, thanks to theadvance order programme, GottwaldHarbour Cranes are an attractivealternative to custom-made handlingequipment with its very long deliverylead-times.

Classification and Service LifeGottwald has always presented dataon classification and service life in a logical and clear fashion. Basically, on the one hand, it is a question of the intensity of crane operation combined with the degree of actualuse. On the other hand, there is theloading capacity of a crane, whichincreases with greater wall thicknesses,of sheet metal and tubing forinstance.

Put simply: the anticipated number of work cycles and, consequently, the service life of the crane arederived from the type of load andloading capacity defined by the steel structure and mechanicaldesign, construction and condition of the crane. Customers should consult Gottwald so that the cranecan be precisely configured to meetthe respective requirements.
