JUNE 16, 2019 • SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

We bless you and we praise you, God of our fathers! You are the God of Adam, father of the human family. You are the God of Abraham, our father in faith who was ready and willing to give up everything to be faithful to you.

You are the God of Isaac, who was born of laughter and old age,

and the God of Jacob, whose clever trick gained an inheritance for twelve tribes of sons and daughters.

You are the God of Jesse, from whose loins a nation sprang, a sturdy family tree of monarchs, prophets and priests.

You are the God and Father of Israel, your child whom you love with all your heart.

You are the God of Zechariah, who fathered the Baptist and taught him the Torah,

and of Joachim, the grandfather of Jesus. You are the God of Joseph, who loved and raised Jesus as his own.

You are the God and Father of Jesus, and our Father in heaven, too: Holy is your Name!

We thank you, God, for the gift of our fathers, for grandfathers and godfathers and fathers-in-law, too. Send your Holy Spirit upon our fathers, in whose laps we were cradled,

on whose knees we were bounced, by whose hands we were fed, instructed, at times corrected,

in whose company we learned to work and play and pray,

at whose side we hear your word and celebrate your mysteries. Heal their pains and disappointments. Forgive all that needs to be forgiven. Give to them the good that they have given others. Welcome into your arms those who have died.

Fill this world, O God, with a father’s love! We ask this your Son Jesus Christ,

who taught us to pray to you as Abba. He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

who is Father of the poor,

Dear Parishioners, Last week we marked the ending of another school year with a special prayer service in Diantha Hall, the parish gym. I felt some of the emotion of that moment, realizing that all Frassati classes will be held on the Wauconda campus next fall. Although the school building is not closing—before and after school care will still be offered, religious education and parish activities will still be held in the school—it was indeed an emotional moment for some. St. Mary School has celebrated 120 years of service to our community. Think of all the students who graced its hallways. I want offer my gratitude for the dedicat-ed principals, including the leadership of Tammy Kleckner, the many dedicated teachers, religious sis-ters, staff, and priests who have dedicated their lives to Catholic education. We have much to be grateful for. I am hopeful for the future of Frassati academy as we transition to a one campus model. I remain committed to promoting and supporting the vision and opportuni-ty of Frassati Catholic Academy for our future.

O God of all beginnings and endings, We praise and thank you for the gift of this past school

year. It has been a time filled with grace and blessings,

with challenges and opportunities, joys and sorrows. The days have passed quickly, O Lord. The seasons, holidays, and Holy days.

The exams, activities and opportunities for service. All these have come forth from your hand.

Guide us O God into your future, Let our efforts of this past year and

Our hopes for the future bear good fruit. We ask this though Christ our Lord AMEN

I wish to offer my thanks for the service of Ms. Penny Elwood who has served as our bookkeeper/accountant at St. Mary for more than eight years. Penny has made the decision to retire at the end of June. Penny has been a blessing for our parish staff and we will miss her. We send her forth with our blessings and pray that she may come enjoy a healthy and happy retirement. We welcome Mrs. Maria Hutchins to succeed Penny as our parish bookkeeper/accountant. Maria is also a CPA and has extensive experience in bookkeeping and accounting.

A Note from Fr. Don I’m grateful to the Lord for leading me to the Archdiocese of Chicago and serving the community of St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish as Associate Pastor beginning July 1st. I’m looking forward to meeting you all. God bless you.

Fr Don

As I announced last week, I am looking forward to the arrival of Fr. Don Cambe who will begin his assign-ment at St. Mary on July 1st. We are very grateful to have Fr. Don assigned to us in this time where the priest shortage is becoming more critical. I believe Fr. Don will come to love this parish and I know you will make him feel welcome. Because of his assignment, beginning in July we will once again be able to offer morning Mass on Wednesdays. I am grateful for our deacons for offering Communion services this past year while I was alone. There may be a time in the future when we will need to offer a Communion ser-vice and so it is good to know that our deacons are able to preside over these. Please continue to pray for voca-tions to priesthood and for all our seminarians. Finally, I join our Teen Ministry in attending Catholic Heart Work Camp in Nebraska from Sunday, June 23rd to June 29th. Please keep us in your prayers. Let us pray for one another, Fr Jerry

Living God's Word Week after week we partake of the sacrament of Holy Commun-ion. In this sacrament the Holy Spirit continues to pour out God's love into our hearts and bind the church more deeply into holy communion with the love of the Holy Trinity. How can we not reach out to others and draw them into that holy communion of love?

How to Find Your Soulmate without Losing Your Soul

By Jason & Crystalina Evert

In your quest for love, don't lose yourself along the way. While navigating through the dating scene, every woman begins to wonder: How do I know

when a guy really loves me? Am I being too picky? Do I even deserve love? Is my relationship worth keeping? Is love worth the risk? Are any decent guys left? Single women often feel left alone to find answers to their deep questions about love and intimacy. Some hang out and hook up, hoping for love. Others are afraid even to hope. At some point, every woman needs reassurance that she and her standards are not the problem. In How to Find Your Soulmate Without Losing Your Soul, you'll discover twenty-one strategies to help you raise the bar, instead of sitting at it, waiting around for Mr. Wonderful.

Feature resources can be found at the wooden kiosk in the narthex. Please remember a $3-4 donation is suggested to allow the parish to

One Price, One Line. . . One Unforgettable Feast! As far back as memory allows the summer celebration on the grounds of St Mary revolved around a delicious feast! The feast took mainstage wheth-er at a summer picnic featuring roast chicken back in the 50’s, or at the long heralded Pork and Corn Roasts accented with dozens of spit-roasted pig and endless ears of fresh corn on the cob, or the more recent St Mary’s Country Fests highlight-ed by the infusion of traditional Filipino fare.

Country Fest 2019 offers the very best of our past and present, contin-uing our tradition of on-site, pit-roasted pork, fresh baked beans, pota-to salad, and fresh home-grown tomatoes complemented with crispy, succulent fresh Filipino spring rolls.

And this year, you will be happy to know the price for this magnificently nourishing meal for the ravished is still only $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10.

And here’s a little added bonus—just one meal line! That’s right! All this marvelous feast has to offer will be in front of you as you weave your way through just one meal line!

Of course, Country Fest 2019 will also have hotdogs and chips and soda, lovely wines and Tighthead beer, for an additional purchase.

So, plan to be hungry, real hungry, with all your friends and family, when you arrive at Country Fest 2019 on Sunday, August 4 between 1pm and 6pm! Come to the Fest! Enjoy the feast!

Eucharistic Adoration Eucharistic Adoration is coming into the presence of the Eucharistic Christ. In a deeper sense, it involves "the contemplation of the Mystery of Christ truly present be-

fore us". During Eucharistic Adoration, we "watch and wait", we remain "silent" in His Presence in the Blessed Sacrament, and open ourselves to His Graces which flow from the Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament is the living fountain of life, where we drink in the love of Christ who alone quenches our thirst to be loved. Eucharistic Adoration is:

Awareness of the real presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Appreciation of the gift of his total presence among us in the Blessed

Sacrament Affirmation of his personal love for each one of us in the Blessed

Sacrament Acknowledgement of our total dependency upon Jesus, who is the

“vine” and we the “branches”. An Attitude of centering our whole life in Him and His holy will for

each of us.

Jesus waits for us in the Blessed Sacrament. He waits for our little Acts of faith, adoration, love, thanksgiving, repentance, reparation and charity that we can offer Him as we contemplate His Divine Majesty in the Blessed Sacrament. St. Alphonsus Ligouri wrote: “Of all the devo-tions, that of adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the greatest after the Sacraments, the one dearest to God and the one most helpful to us.” The Eucharist is a priceless treasure. By not only celebrating the Eucharist, but also by praying before It outside of Mass, we are enabled to make contact with the very wellspring of Grace. By worshiping the Eucharistic Jesus, we become what God wants us to be! Like a magnet, the Lord draws us to Himself and gently trans-forms us. In its fullest essence, Eucharistic Adoration is "God and Man reaching out for each other, at the same time!" With regular practice, time spent with our Beloved Savior in Adoration becomes a most profound, meaningful, joyful, peaceful and healing experience. Please consider spending an hour with the Blessed Sac-rament the second Tuesday of the month. The Lord is waiting for You!\

F isch–ing Lines by Deacon Howard Fischer

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads who have given us life and to all the men in our lives who have taught us how to live!

Here is some humor to lighten your celebration of Fathers: First, there’s one of my favorite Mark Twain quotes: When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was

astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years. Protestant preacher King Duncan once observed: Children go through four fascinating stages. First they call you Da-Da. Then they call you Daddy. As they mature they call you Dad. Finally, they call you collect. OK, collect phone calls are obsolete ancient history, but I’m sure you get the point! Now, a few thoughts about the Holy Trinity… All sorts of logical devices have been tried to help our feeble minds conceptualize the mystery of the Trinity. (Think of St. Patrick and the thee-leaf clover, for example.) Countless volumes of theology have been written over the last 20 centuries on this subject. But try as we might, we will never be able to intellectually grasp a truth that comes from a reality superior to the one we currently inhabit. Yet despite our lack of comprehension, we accept this tenet of our faith simply be-cause Jesus told us of the intimate union of Father, Son, and Spirit. The true measure of faith is to accept and believe even when we do not understand. (To require something to be logical is to make logic superior to God!) If we can’t understand it, why should we care about the Trinity? Does it really matter? Does this belief affect my life in any important way? First and foremost, we need to embrace every truth that our Creator makes known to us. We need to absorb everything we can about the One we love. Second, we should appreciate that intimate love and inseparable community are intrinsic to the nature of God. Therefore, such love and community should be at the heart of who we are too. Here are some quotes and analogies on the Trinity: True prayer is the living experience of the Holy Trinity. The Spirit's breathing, the Son's intercession, the Father's will, these three be-come one in us. – Andrew Murray Tell me how it is that in this room there are three candles and but one light, and I will explain to you the mode of the divine existence. – John Wesley A pretzel has three holes. The first hole is not the second hole, the second hole is not the third hole, but the same dough ties all three holes together. One pretzel, three holes. There’s one God made up of three distinct persons, the Father, the Son, and the Spirit, but they’re all tied together by the same essence or the same divine nature. The same attributes, perfections, and descriptions of one belongs to the others. – Tony Evans A priest was sitting in a Chicago airport waiting for his plane. A man sat down beside him and began to give his opinions on religion. He boasted: “I won’t accept anything I can’t understand. Take this busi-ness of three Gods in one God or whatever it is. I can’t buy that. No-body can explain it to me, so I will not believe it.” Pointing to the sun streaming in the window, the priest asked: “Do you believe in the

sun?” “Why, of course,” the doubter admitted. “Alright,” the priest continued, “the rays you see coming through that window are from the sun, 90 million miles from here. The heat we feel comes from the sun and from its rays. The Holy Trinity is something like that. The sun is God the Father; the sun sends out its rays, God the Son. Then from both the sun and its rays, from the Father and the Son, proceeds or comes the Holy Spirit, the heat. Can you explain how that happens?” The doubter quickly changed the subject. – Msgr. Arthur Tonne May the God who is Creator, Savior and Sustainer enfold us in his community of love forever. If you wish to contact me, please leave a note in the Parish Office or send an email to [email protected].

St. Romauld Abbot St. Romuald (c. 950–1027) was born in Ravenna and led a self-indulgent life as a young man, but when he saw his father kill an opponent in a duel, he fled to a monastery. Romuald yearned for a stricter

life than he found there, and so he withdrew to become a hermit. Even-tually, he founded the Camaldolese branch of the Benedictine family, integrating community life with the solitary life. His monks live and work in individual hermitages but come together to celebrate Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours. His feast day is June 19.

St. Aloysius Gonzaga Religious St. Aloysius Gonzaga (1568–1591) was born to a noble family in Italy who destined him for the mili-tary. While recovering from an illness, he read the lives of the saints and spent time in prayer. As a result, Aloysius decided to dedicate himself to

God as a Jesuit. Most of his family was against it, but he joined any-way, making his vows in 1587. In 1591, the plague broke out in Rome. Aloysius volunteered to care for the victims and became sick himself. He recovered, but his health was broken, and he died within a few months. Many schools are named for him because he is the patron saint of Catholic youth His feast day is June 21. From Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons, and Weekdays: 2019 The Almanac for Pasto-

The Women’s Center We celebrate Father’s Day during June. Many fathers feel a deep loss and sadness due to the abortion of their child. At the Women’s Center, we reduce the number of abortions by approximately 1,000 babies saved each year. We are able to do this because of the counseling, spiritual, and material help which you enable us to provide our moth-ers and fathers. SEEKING DONATIONS: We are in need of 5 infant car seat/carriers, also 4 car seats for 20 to 40 lb. Statement of Cardinal Cupich on the Passage of Senate Bill 25 The passage of Senate Bill 25, eliminating even the minimal limita-tions on abortions under previous law marks a sad moment in our history as a State. We have worked to make the case for a con-sistent approach to human dignity in Illinois and will continue to do so even as elected officials single out unborn persons for particu-lar disregard. It remains our hope that Illinois will eventually distin-guish itself as a safe place that welcomes not only those seeking a new life or second chance, but also the most vulnerable among us who deserve a chance at life. We are resolved to let women and families in the Chica-go area know they have alternatives to abortion. We will continue to provide help during their pregnancies and throughout their jour-ney as parents. Our ministry in Cook and Lake Counties has taught us that when teenagers in underserved communities expe-rience an unplanned pregnancy without proper support, the conse-quences for the health and well-being of mother and child can be grim. But, we have also seen that a brighter outcome is possi-ble when support is provided. Catholic Charities and its partners serve hundreds of young women and developing families every year. They nurture the mother and therefore the baby by providing classes in health and child development. They encourage the new families toward independence by providing childcare and making referrals for education, housing and employment. As a young woman served by a Catholic agency said, “It was like a second family when I came here. My Doula took me to doctors’ appointments, explaining what all the papers and proce-dures meant, how my baby was developing, the changes my body was going through and how to eat and exercise to stay healthy.” Today, her son is thriving in the organization’s early childhood program and its family support program helps her stay on track with personal goals. She will begin a bachelor’s degree program this summer. With loving encouragement, she has turned stressful circumstances into a positive, hopeful future for herself and her son. Women have a real choice when they are given the support they need to bring their children into the world and parent them, supported by a society that truly values them. We will give that support to all who seek it in the hope that by offering them a choice, we will build stronger families and a better Illinois.

Reflect on CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING: Solidarity • Does the way I spend my time reflect a genuine concern for others? • Is solidarity incorporated into my prayer and spirituality? Do I lift

up vulnerable people throughout the world in my prayer, or is it reserved for only my personal concerns?

• Am I attentive only to my local neighbors or also those across the globe?

• Do I see all members of the human family as my brothers and sisters?

HUMAN CONCERNS COMMISSION: The mission of the Human Concerns Commission is to promote the word and manifest the love of Jesus Christ by helping those who are in need, following the principle that “whatever you do to the least of my people, you do unto me.”

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

Such a special day to be celebrating Father’s Day as our Church

celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity! For fathers everywhere and for the work towards medical and scientific advancement we pray that God’s Spirit of truth guides these efforts and that discoveries may never come at the expense of human life; We pray to the Lord.

Prayer for Life

Father and maker of all, you adorn all creation with splendor and

beauty, and fashion human lives in your image and likeness. Awaken in every heart reverence for the work of your hands, and renew among your people a readiness to nurture and sustain your precious gift of life.

Grant this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and

reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.

Amen.

This week is the anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’: a text of landmark significance and an appeal for us to rethink our rela-tionship with nature. He reframes the environmental dialogue from a political discus-sion into language of faith. Creation, the natural world around us, is recognized as a precious gift from God to be reverenced by all. The Holy Father invites us to become aware and reflect deeply on the unsustainable environmental degradation around us and its con-sequences. Francis extends an “urgent challenge to protect our common home… to bring the whole human family together to seek a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change.” The Pope asks us to examine our lifestyles through sound eco-logical virtues, greater simplicity and less focus on material things. By reducing excessive consumption and waste in our lives, we can significantly improve care for Creation. If you would like to learn more about Laudato Si and how we can make a difference, attend a St. Mary of the Annunciation CFOCH meeting...our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 26 at 3:30pm

“All of us operate as instruments of God for the Care of Creation.” – Pope Francis
