The Wringer – Mechanical Dehumidifier

The key element of the Wringer is an efficient plate or heat pipe air-to-air heat exchanger. The airstream makes two passesthrough the heat exchanger. In the first pass, the warm, humid air is pre-cooled (T1 to T2, see Figure 1b), reducing refrigerationrequirements by up to 50%. In the second pass, the air is reheated (T3 to T4), reducing or eliminating the need for supplementalreheat. Because the heat exchanger is a passive element, it does not appreciably add to the system complexity or maintenancerequirements. Typically designed to deliver dry air at 50°F dew point or lower, and at a relatively neutral dry bulb condition, theWringer offsets building internal latent loads and controls building humidity levels without affecting space temperature. Whenpurchased with return air damper option, the Wringer may be used to control building humidity levels during unoccupied hours bydrying recirculated air from the space – an extremely efficient and practical dehumidification strategy. If chilled water units areused in conjunction with the Wringer, then the chiller can be shut down during unoccupied periods and only the DX Wringers willoperate to control space conditions.

The Wringer Plus – Energy Recovery with Mechanical Dehumidifier

Offering all of the benefits and features of the Wringer, the Wringer Plus goes a step beyond to reduce winter heating and summermechanical cooling requirements through efficient recovery of energy from building exhaust air. Designed to deliver filtered, dehu-midified outdoor air while allowing building pressure to be controlled (using the system's exhaust/relief fan) – all whileminimizing heating and cooling requirements through efficient air-to-air energy exchange. The Wringer Plus provides the ultimateinternal air quality solution in humid climates. Wringer Plus systems generally require the minimum supplemental cooling andheating capacities of the many available dehumidification options, allowing for chiller and boiler plant downsizing relative to otherdesigns. It should not come as a surprise to learn that Wringer Plus systems also have the ability to save the most energy on anannual basis. In fact, the Wringer Plus, in many cases, requires less energy to condition outdoor air than would be required tocondition recirculated air.

Available in sizes from 1,000 to greater than 50,000 CFM, with options typical of the Wringer, and including any combination ofstraight heat pipe, wrap-around heat pipe, total energy recovery wheel, and sensible plate heat exchangers. The Wringer andWringer Plus are equipped with fully factory mounted and tested DDC control systems as standard equipment.
