    3)Bn in Billets= the (.&. inspected (ompanies in >rill order and was satis%ied with the smartappearance o% the Bn. The maKority o% the men were bathed.

    9At 4am Bn moved o%% to "&NTRE0A ,milesC and were in Billets by ' noon. The march

    discipline throughout the march was eJcellent+ and very %ew men were carried on the

    Ambulance no men %ell out throughout the march.

    The march resumed at 3am to 0"&A R&M&& ' milesC+ the Bn arriving in Billets by

    5pm

    & 7 inspections were held on the ?th$ training resumed the %ollowing day. The sic!

    parades were large+ the chie% complaint being blistered %eet+ but the rest bene%itted the men

    greatly.

    5 Moved o%% at ,am to 0"&A di (ART*R& ? '/ milesC and in Billets by '' am. >uring

    the last three days the march discipline was still very good+ and no men %ell out. The men

    were ingood condition and their %eet were sound.

    3 The march was resumed at 4 am to ;&NT du BARBARAN& , milesC and the Bn was in

    Billets by ' pm.

    Bn moved o%% at , am to Noventa '? milesC arriving in Billets at '58 pm. The men

    marched very well and not a man %ell out. "everal men#s %eet were blistered.

    1Bn moved o%% at ?.8 am to ENA& ' milesC+ arriving in Billets at 8 pm. Themarching was again good+ and the transport was very clean $ smart.

    ) The march was resumed at , am to N0ARA 3 milesC the Bn in Billets by ''am. The high

    standard o% marching was still maintained and very %ew men had blistered %eet.

    19The >ivision commenced its march %orward to concentration area. The BN moved o%% at

    3.8 am by march route to "*"AN& (&RTA (70A60(7E about ' milesC arriving in

    Billets at 8.8 pm. The marching was good+ no men %alling out.

    1 t, 1 Billeted in good billets at (ERE"A+ where satis%actory training was carried out. &n

    the '3th a church parade was held. 9hilst in the area the condition o% the men was good+

    although the sic! parades were a little larger than usual several men su%%ering with boils.

    11 t, 15 Train through the R7&NE valley to MAR"E0E" and along the coast via

    (ANNE"+ N0(E $ 60NT0M0E (entimiliaC into 0TA2. 7alts repasL were carranged atvarious stations+ where men were eJercised and hot water tea co%%ee were available. The train

    discipline was eJcellent and the men were interested throughout the Kourney. The Bn was

    warmly welcomed en route. &n the '-th the Bn detrained at MANT&6A Mantua) and

    marched to (ERE"A.

    1) The Bn entrained by hal% Battalion at 90"& M( being &( TrainD Train no -5 le%t at .5pm with MaKor

    ewis M( as &( train.

    Wiuring this period the Battalion carried out a satis%actory training programme+ and

    the specialists were trained by their own o%%icers.

    Range practices were %ired on the 'st 8rd 5th ?th $ ,th the shooting was very satis%actory+

    and the men o% the new dra%ts showed improvement. The >ivl as o%%icer inspected "BRs on

    the nd and lectured to all o%%icers and ;latoon (ommanders on the ?th. A (hurch parade was

    the 3th. 9hilst in this area there was very little sic!ness in the Battalion and the men

    the connection with the improvement andstrengthening o% our trenches and dug outs also %or

    the nightlypatrols. &%%icers $ men have been continuously practised in patrol the river bed atnight and the negotiable spots o% the various streams have been pointed out to each o%%icer and

    man. Enemy posts have been engaged but we have su%%ered no casualties up to date. A

    miniature range has been built and every man has been trained and practised with the ri%le

    whilst the promotion o% 0nter (ompany and 0nter ;latoon (ompetitions has interested and

    encouraged the men tremendously.
