1. Start Word. Click the File tab, and then click New. Under Templates, click Sampletemplates. Scroll down, and click Urban Resume. Notice that a preview of the resume displays on the right of the screen, as shown in Figure 1.

2. Click the Create button to create a new document based on the template. The documentopens unnamed, as shown in Figure 2.

Placeholders display for each item in the resume. Instead of the placeholder text [TYPE YOUR NAME], your template may show the name associated with your computer.

3. Save the document in your Word Chapter 4 folder as Lastname_Firstname_ w04_Resumeand then add the file name to the footer.

4. Click anywhere in the [TYPE YOUR NAME] placeholder text—or select your name or theworkstation name—type Paco Calvino and then complete the address information with the following:

[Type your address] 447 Polo DriveSanta Fe, NM 87501

[Type the phone number] (505) 555-4422[Type the fax number][Type your website] www.pacocalvinocom

5. Right-click the [Type the fax number] placeholder, and then from the shortcut menu, clickRemove Content Control. Press WX one time to remove the blank paragraph. Right-clickthe name Paco Calvino, and then from the shortcut menu, click Remove Content Control.Compare your screen with Figure 3.

A content control indicates that the text is formatted as a placeholder and is designatedby a border when you click the placeholder text. Content controls can also be set to display a list of choices and may disappear when the placeholder text is replaced.If the text remains—as it did with the name—it is a good idea to remove the control.

6. Click the appropriate placeholder boxes to add the following information. If necessary,when you type a bulleted list item, press JKL to create another item in the same list.If necessary, use Figure 4 as a guide.
