9203 A Hydrate Plugging Model for High Water CutsThe scope of this work is significantly extended from that covered in previous effortsfrom CTR 8203. The initial CSMHyK-OLGA program considered only the case wherethe aqueous phase is dispersed in the hydrocarbon liquid phase. Hydrate blockage assuch was predicted by the viscosification of the hydrocarbon liquid phase.

In Phase IX, the goal is to build upon the lessons learned from the construction of theCSMHyK-OLGA model/program and to extend the model/program to high water cutsystems (CSMHyK-freewater-OLGA).

To accomplish these goals, the contractor will perform five tasks:

Task 1: Based upon experiments, develop a conceptual picture of the hydrate formationmechanism for high water cuts, including free water scenarios.

Task 2: Measure particle/aggregate sizes and hydrate growth - key parameters topredict hydrate plugging via a high pressure cell/particle size analysis (FBRM/PVM)experiments.

Task 3: Measure the effect of plugging variables on flow via viscosity and jammingmechanisms for high water cut systems.

Task 4: Develop the CSMHyK-freewater-OLGA (CSM Hydrate Kinetics incorporatingFree Water for use with OLGA) model for high water cut systems.

Task 5: Test the model in CSMHyK-freewater-OLGA against flowloop data and fielddata (e.g. Tommeliten-Gamma, XOM flowloop).
