SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

This machine is intended for commercial use. It isdesigned exclusively to clean carpets andupholstery in an indoor environment and is notconstructed for any other use. Use onlyrecommended accessory tools and commerciallyavailable carpet cleaners intended for machineapplication.

All operators must read, understand and practicethe following safety precautions.

The following warning alert symbol and the “FORSAFETY” heading are used throughout this manual asindicated in their description:

WARNING: To warn of hazards or unsafepractices which could result in severe personalinjury or death.

FOR SAFETY: To identify actions which must befollowed for safe operation of equipment.

Failure to follow these warnings may result in:personal injury, electrocution, electrical shock,fire or explosion.

WARNING: Do Not Use Flammable Liquids OrOperate Machine In Or Near Flammable Liquids,Vapors Or Combustible Dusts.

This machine is not equipped with explosionproof motors. The electric motors will spark uponstart up and during operation which could cause aflash fire or explosion if machine is used in anarea where flammable vapors/liquids orcombustible dusts are present.

WARNING: Do Not Pick Up FlammableMaterials Or Reactive Metals.

WARNING: Do Not Operate With DamagedPower Cord. Do Not Modify Plug. Unplug powerCord Before Servicing Machine.

If the supply cord is damaged or broken, it mustbe replaced by the manufacturer or it’s serviceagent or a similarly qualified person in order toavoid a hazard.

WARNING: Do Not Use Outdoors. Do NotExpose To Rain. Store Indoors.

The following information signals potentiallydangerous conditions to the operator orequipment:

FOR SAFETY:

1. Do not operate machine:– With flammable liquids or near flammable

vapors as an explosion or flash fire mayoccur.

– Unless trained and authorized.– Unless operator manual is read and

understood.– Unless cord is properly grounded.– With damaged cord or plug.– If not in proper operating condition.– In outdoor areas.– In standing water.– With the use of an extension cord.

2. Before operating machine:– Make sure all safety devices are in place

and operate properly.– Place wet floor signs as needed.

3. When using machine:– Do not run machine over cord.– Do not pull machine by plug or cord.– Do not pull cord around sharp edges or

corners.– Do not unplug by pulling on cord.– Do not stretch cord.– Do not handle plug with wet hands.– Keep cord away from heated surfaces.– Go slow on inclines and slippery surfaces.– Use care when reversing machine.– Report machine damage or faulty

operation immediately.– Never allow children to play on or around.– Follow mixing and handling instructions

on chemical containers.

4. Before leaving or servicing machine:– Stop on level surface.– Turn off machine.– Unplug cord from wall outlet.

5. When servicing machine:– Unplug cord from wall outlet.– Avoid moving parts. Do not wear loose

jackets, shirts, or sleeves.– Block machine tires before jacking up.– Use hoist or jack that will support the

weight of the machine.– Use manufacturer supplied or approved

replacement parts.– All repairs must be performed by a

qualified service person.– Do not modify the machine from its

original design.

6. When transporting machine:– Turn machine off.– Get assistance when lifting machine.– Unplug cord from wall outlet.– Use a recommended ramp when

loading/unloading into/off truck or trailer.– Use tie–down straps to secure machine to

truck or trailer.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

Machine must be grounded. If it shouldmalfunction or breakdown, grounding provides apath of least resistance for electrical current toreduce the risk of electrical shock. This machineis equipped with a cord having anequipment–grounding conductor and groundingplug. The plug must be plugged into anappropriate outlet that is properly installed inaccordance with all local codes and ordinances.Do not remove ground pin; if missing, replaceplug before use.

VACUUM FAN SWITCH

Press the bottom (I) of the switch to turn on thevacuum fan. Press the top (O) of the switch to turn offthe vacuum fan.

HAND TOOL SWITCH

Press the bottom (I) of the switch to turn on the handtool. Press the top (O) of the switch to turn off thehand tool.

BRUSH/SOLUTION LEVER(S)

The machine has two levers situated under themachine handles at the top of the control panel. Thebrush/solution lever(s) turn on the scrub brush and thesolution pump. One or both of the levers can be usedto start the scrub brush and solution pump.

BRUSH CIRCUIT BREAKER

The brush circuit breaker protects the brush motorfrom overload. If the brush pressure is too high, thebrush circuit breaker will trip and the scrub brush willstop. To reset the brush circuit breaker, press thecircuit breaker reset button on the circuit breaker. Itmay be necessary to allow the circuit breaker to cooldown before resetting, or it may trip again. Reduce thebrush pressure before resuming scrubbing and checkthe brush for obstructions.

PRE-OPERATION

� Check power cord for any wear or damage. Do notoperate machine with a damaged cord.

� Check if the correct power plug is installed.

TRANSPORTING MACHINE

To move the machine from one place to another, tipthe machine back by the machine handles and pushthe machine forward.

The power cord can be wrapped around the machinehandles to keep it out of the way when moving themachine.

HOW THE MACHINE WORKS

This machine is constructed to clean carpets.The head, which pre–soaks the carpet and lifts thedirt, contains solution dispensing nozzles.The vacuum picks up the solution into the recoverytank. The solution passes through the filtration system– debris and dirt are captured and the solution isclarified. Solution is forced into the solution tank fromthe recovery tank.

FILLING THE SOLUTION TANK

1. Unplug the machine and move the machine nextto a water source.

FOR SAFETY: Before leaving or servicingmachine, stop on level surface and turn offmachine.

WARNING: Do Not Operate With DamagedPower Cord. Do Not Modify Plug. Unplug powerCord Before Servicing Machine.

2. Remove the solution tank cover, letting it hang onthe side of the machine.

3. Using a clean bucket or hose, partially fill the tankwith water through the fill opening (Figure 2).

NOTE: The water must not be hotter than 60�C(140�F) or tank damage may occur.

NOTE: If filling with a bucket be certain that bucket isclean. This will prevent possible solution line clogs.

4. Add cleaning chemical. See proper dilution ratioinstructions on bottle.

FOR SAFETY: When using machine, followmixing and handling instructions on chemicalcontainers.

ATTENTION: Use only recommended detergents.Machine damage due to improper detergent usagewill void the manufacturer’s warranty. Contactyour Tennant Sales Representative for detergentrecommendations.

5. Fill the solution tank with water to the desiredlevel, but never higher than to the bottom link ofthe fill chain hanging inside the tank (Figure 3).

NOTE: The water must not be hotter than 60�C(140�F) or tank damage may occur.

NOTE: If filling with a bucket be certain that bucket isclean. This will prevent possible solution line clogs.

NOTE: If the floor to be cleaned already has puddles ofstanding water (such as swimming pool decks), DONOT COMPLETELY FILL the solution tank. Picking upexcess water will cause the solution tank to overfill andsolution may enter and damage the vacuum motor.

6. Place the solution tank cover on the solution tankand make sure the cover gasket seals the tank.

PREPARING FLOOR FOR CLEANING

1. Remove loose objects or debris as they will plugsqueegee openings and cause streaking and poorwater pickup.

2. Remove gum or other such materials stuck to thefloor with a putty knife or scraper.

CLEANING CARPETS

1. Push the machine to a place on the carpet youwant to start.

2. Plug the power cord into a grounded wall outlet.

WARNING: Do Not Operate With DamagedPower Cord. Do Not Modify Plug. Unplug powerCord Before Servicing Machine.

3. Unlatch powerbrush head latch and lower head tothe carpet (Figure 4).

4. Press the bottom (l) of the the vacuum fan switchto turn on the vacuum. Press the top (O) of thehand tool switch for normal cleaning.

5. Pull up one of the brush/solution levers as you pullthe machine backward. Let go of thebrush/solution lever(s) when you finish thecleaning path.

NOTE: After releasing the levers, continue pulling themachine, about 500 mm (20 in), to pick up all thesolution.

WARNING: Do Not Pick Up FlammableMaterials Or Reactive Metals.

6. Tip the machine back by the machine handles.Push the machine forward to the beginning of thenext cleaning path.

7. Keep the cord out of the way of the machine whileyou are cleaning to prevent damage to the cord.Work away from the cord and wall outlets (Figure 5).

8. It is very important to watch the foaming of thecleaning solution through the solution andrecovery tank covers. Do not let the foam rise intothe fill area of the solution tank. The foam will bedrawn into the vacuum fan and can damage it(Figure 6).

If the foam starts rising into the fill areas, unplugthe machine. Drain some of the solution from thetanks and/or reduce the amount of detergentbeing used. Chemical defoaming agents may beused. Follow instructions on the detergent.

DRAINING THE SOLUTION TANK

1. Unplug the machine and place the machine nextto a floor drain.

WARNING: Do Not Operate With DamagedPower Cord. Do Not Modify Plug. Unplug powerCord Before Servicing Machine.

2. Unhook the drain hose from the retaining clip onthe back of the machine.

3. Loosen the drain plug by turning the drain plugknob counter–clockwise.

4. Remove the drain plug while holding the hose up.Quickly lower the hose to the floor drain, as thesolution rushes out of the drain hose. Flow ratecan be reduced by squeezing the hose (Figure 7).

5. Flush out the inside of the solution tank with cleanwater (Figure 8).

6. Wipe off the vacuum inlet screen at the top of thesolution tank (Figure 9).

7. Make sure to clean the screen filter at the bottomof the tank. Put the solution screen back in thetank (Figure 10).

8. When the solution tank is completely drained andflushed, place the drain plug back into the end ofthe drain hose and turn the end of the drain plugclockwise to tighten the plug. Hang the drain hoseback onto the retaining clip on the back of themachine.

EMPTYING THE RECOVERY TANK

1. Pull the vacuum hose off the recovery tank (Figure 11).

2. Lift the recovery tank out of the machine with thehandle (Figure 12).

3. Dump the solution out the recovery tank. Rinseout the recovery tank and cover baffle with cleanhot water (Figure 13).

4. Place the recovery tank back into the machine.Reconnect the vacuum hose to the recovery tank.Make sure that the tank gaskets are seatedproperly.

POST-OPERATION

Check this list of items over after operating themachine:

� Check the power cord for damage and wear. Wipecord clean and wrap around handle of machine.

� Check for and remove any string or materialwrapped around the scrub brush.

� Move the machine to an area to be kept until it isneeded again. It is suggested that both tankcovers be left slightly open for the tanks toventilate.

� Lock the powerbrush head in the UP position toprevent the brush taking a “set”. Lift thepowerbrush head from the floor and slide the latchuntil it catches (Figure 14).

� Protect the machine from freezing if it will bestored or transported in areas where solution inthe system may freeze and damage thecomponents.

OPTIONAL ATTACHMENT TOOLS

NOTE: For all attachments the vacuum and solutionhose is connected in the same way.

1. Attach male end of solution feed hose to thefemale quick-disconnect on the machine. Push themale connector in until it stops. Pull on the hose tomake sure it is connected (Figure 15).

2. Pull the vacuum hose off the recovery tank, andfirmly insert the hose cuff from the wandattachment hose into the tank (Figure 16).

3. Attach the other ends of the solution and vacuumhoses to the selected attachment tool in the sameway (Figure 17).

4. Press the bottom (l) of the hand tool switch. Pressthe bottom (l) of the vacuum switch.

5. To disconnect the attachment, reverse the abovesteps.

OPERATION OF ATTACHMENTS

The attachments only work properly by pulling themtoward you, not pushing. Set the vacuum end of thetool on the surface to be cleaned and squeeze thevalve lever. Immediately begin pulling the tool towardyou, spraying the surface with detergent andimmediately vacuuming up the solution.

CARPET WAND

The carpet wand can be used for more inaccessibleplaces (Figure 18).

To scrub with the hard floor wand, flip the cleaning toolso the brush is facing down (Figure 20).

To vacuum up the solution with the hard floor wand,flip the cleaning tool so the squeegee side is facingdown. Push and/or pull the tool across the floor topickup the solution (Figure 21).

If the hard floor wand is difficult to push or does notpickup the solution properly, adjust the roller wheels onthe tool by turning the black adjustment knob (Figure 22).

The wheels are properly adjusted when the squeegeeblades deflect slightly while the tool is pushed backand forth.

MACHINE MAINTENANCE

To keep machine in good working condition, simplyfollow machine’s daily, weekly and monthlymaintenance procedures.

DAILY MAINTENANCE(Every 4 Hours of Use)

1. Perform all duties listed under PRE-OPERATIONand POST-OPERATION Sections

2. If machine is to be transported or stored underfreezing conditions, machine (and any options)must be freeze protected (see FREEZEPROTECTION).

WEEKLY MAINTENANCE(Every 20 Hours of Use)

1. Remove and flush out the solution dispensingnozzles in the intake head and powerbrush head.

2. Clean and flush out the vacuum intake nozzle inthe intake head at the front of the machine.

MONTHLY MAINTENANCE(Every 80 Hours of Use)

1. Flush the solution system of alkaline residue withdiluted vinegar solution (see SOLUTIONSYSTEM).

2. Lubricate brush housing pivot pins/bearings withlight oil.

3. Check and tighten all fasteners/hardware.

QUARTERLY MAINTENANCE(Every 250 Hours of Use)

1. Drive belt inspection/replacement.

2. Scrub brush replacement (if required). Replace thebrush when the remaining bristles measure 10mm(0.38 in) or less in length.

3. Brush bearing and seal inspection/replacement.

4. Check motor(s) for carbon brush wear, replacebrushes if worn to a length of 10mm (0.38 in) orless.

Contact your Authorized Service Center for carbonbrush inspection.

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine all repairsmust be performed by a qualified service person.

SOLUTION SYSTEM

The solution system can accumulate an alkalinebuildup. The pumping/nozzle system should beflushed monthly, or more often if hard water is used.

RINSING SOLUTION SYSTEM

1. Mix a solution of 1 L (0.26 gal) white vinegar to 8 L(2.1 gal) water.

2. Pour the solution into the solution tank. Positionthe machine over a floor drain.

3. Plug in the power cord and press the bottom (l) ofthe hand tool switch. The pump will start andspray through the nozzles to the floor.

4. Run the pump until all solution has beendispensed through system.

5. Rinse the solution system again with 8 L of wateronly. Check the solution dispensing nozzles forplugging.

SOLUTION DISPENSING NOZZLES AND VACUUM INLET

The intake head contains four solution dispensingnozzles. There is also one dispensing nozzlecontained in the powerbrush head. Remove and rinsethese nozzles every week, or if they are plugged.Remove any debris caught in the vacuum inlet andflush with water.

ATTENTION: Plugged nozzle(s) can causestreaking of carpets, and create a back-pressurethat can damage the solution pump. Alwaysremove and clean nozzles as soon as pluggingoccurs.

To clean nozzles and vacuum inlet:

1. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

FOR SAFETY: Before leaving or servicingmachine, stop on level surface and turn offmachine.

WARNING: Do Not Operate With DamagedPower Cord. Do Not Modify Plug. Unplug powerCord Before Servicing Machine.

2. Empty the solution and recovery tanks.

3. Tip the machine back, or on its side (Figure 23).

4. Turn the dispensing nozzle to the left to remove itfrom the outlet port. Rinse the nozzle under water.Be careful not to lose the rubber gasket mountedinside the nozzle.

5. Place the dispensing nozzle back on the outletport and turn the nozzle to the right to tighten it.Remove any debris caught in the vacuum inlet andflush with water.

FREEZE PROTECTION

Freeze protection of the machine is necessary toprevent damage to components of the solution systemif the machine is going to be exposed to freezingtemperatures.

ATTENTION: Freezing temperatures can severelydamage components. Do not store or transportmachine in areas where freezing of solutioncontents could occur, unless machine is freezeprotected. Failure of components due to lack offreeze protection voids the warranty on suchcomponents.

To protect machine from freezing:

1. Move machine over floor drain and plug the powercord into an outlet. Drain both tanks.

2. Pour 2 L (0.53 gal) of pre-mixed automotive-typewindshield washer solution into solution tank.

ATTENTION: Do not use cooling systemanti-freeze such as ethylene glycol.

3. Press the bottom (l) of the hand tool switch. Thepump will start and spray through the nozzles tothe floor. Run the pump until all solution has beendispensed through system.

ATTENTION: Machines and attachments that havebeen freeze protected must be flushed completelyprior to normal use. Follow directions for theappropriate cleaning process, but run yourselected cleaning solution through the system topurge all anti-freeze before starting the cleaningprocess.
