Start of Term 3 Items
Dear Parents,
Once again, we are making a call out to parents to
finalise the Essential Education Items payment.
By this time of year, these fees should have been
paid. These lack of payments, make it difficult for
the school to purchase items relevant to your
child/children. Please finalise this payment as
soon as possible. We would like to send out a big
Thank You to the parents who have already paid.

Principals Report
Hello everyone,
Last Friday we saw some of our grade 3 /4 students participate
in Hooptime and they were just amazing! Hooptime is a fun and
supportive event for all students at different levels to play in a
competition against other schools. We had two teams this year
our Future Stars and our Rookies team. All students played so
well, in great team spirit, sportsmanship and displaying our
school values. Our Future Star team was coached by Brian Rolf
and gallantly played out each game, coming third. Our Rookies
team developed their skills so well over the day and really
showed how to play for fun and should be very proud of their
efforts, coming 5th. A huge thank you to all our parent helpers
on the day, whether you drove students to and from the event,
scored or coached, you make the day possible!
While we are celebrating sporting achievements, I would like to
celebrate our student achievements from the completion of
Interschool Sports. All final scores are now in and the ladder
has been completed. For the first time since I have been at KPS
we have teams playing off in the finals. Our Netball A team will
play Doreen and Netball B team will play Middle Kinglake PS. A
big congratulations also to our rounders team, coming third and
our Tee-ball team coming fifth. Dates and time of the finals will
be posted shortly, once we have made arrangements with the
other schools. Well done to all our 3-6 students who have
participated with great spirit throughout the Interschool sports
events and thank you to all the parent helpers, especially Brian
who often helped to umpire rounders.
Friday we celebrate with our Prep students their first 100 days
of school. To help them celebrate they will be enjoying some
special activities on the day, including working with their grade
5-6 buddies. This is a special milestone in the learning journey
of our prep students, so please extend a word of
congratulations to our prep students on Friday!
Book week is coming up soon and we will be having our annual
Book Week parade on 23rd August. I know this is a big event for
students and staff who love getting into character and having a
whole lot of fun on the day. Start planning those costumes!
This week, I feel proud to tell our community of 2 achievements for
our school this year so far. The first celebration is the
announcement by Cindy McLeish and the acknowledgement of our
co-authorship of the scientific paper: Citizen science in schools:
engaging students in research on urban habitat for pollinators to
parliament last week. She was so impressed with the achievement
she decided that at the next sitting of parliament, Victorian
politicians should hear about the great work staff and students of
KPS are doing.
Secondly, the annual results for students Attitude to School Survey
were released. Staff have analysed the results and compared them
to last years results. Although there is still some areas for us to
work on, I am very pleased to see the data around classroom
behaviour improve, and actions and opinions around student
safety, bullying, respect and teasing significantly decline and
improve to show what we already know this year that KPS is a safe,
happy and respectful place for students. I would like to thank the
staff for their efforts in working hard with our students around our
school values, implementing Respectful Relationship teaching and
learning, the creation and implementation of the student
leadership program and working with the quote of the week to
create the lovely, friendly and harmonious learning environment
we have today. Please see the graphed results attached.
On a final note, please remember to fill in the parent opinion
survey. If you have lost you letter and login details, please contact
the school for a new one. We would like to hear from as many
families as possible.
Have a great weekend.

FROM: The Office
The Parent Opinion Survey is now available to be completed online. The survey only takes about 10-15 minutes and will be open until Sunday August 26th. A note went home last week with instructions on how to access the survey. Copies of this note are available at the office if yours has gone astray.
The 3-6 Roses Gap camp is only about 5 weeks away. If you wish for your child to attend, please ensure that the consent form has been signed and medical form is returned, even if your child doesn’t have any medical conditions. Deposits should have been received by August 3rd and the balance is due no later than September 3rd. Time to start counting how many sleeps, before they take off. It’s going to be amazing.
IMPORTANT NOTICES
A big thank you to all the Parents who have
already returned the Cadbury Chocolates
fundraiser or made a donation. It is greatly
appreciated. If you wish to sell another box,
please see Diana or Susie at the office. Again,
Thank you.

Have you heard of Mecuriade? She was a game changing physician and surgeon during the middle ages! Check out how she inspired our STEM session last week on the blog. http://sugarloafstem.global2.vic.edu.au/category/weekly-s-t-e-m-summary/
