COLLINGSWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY
December 7, 2014 2nd Sunday of Advent/The Lord’s Supper
ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME
Silent Prayer O God, you are my light and my hope.
Come to me in this season of anticipation and fear. Make me ready to receive the Prince of Peace. Amen.
Prelude
Welcome and Announcements
We welcome you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ! Please sign the guest book in the narthex so we can send you a welcome packet.
Gathering of Prayer Concerns and Joys
Please raise your hand to share your joys or concerns to be included in the prayers of the people this day. You may also write your concern on the pink sheets and hand to the Pastor. Please mail a prayer card from the narthex to your loved one.
Centering Music - “Creator of the Stars of Night”
(Please stand for items marked with an asterisk. GTG is the purple “Glory to
God” hymnal. STF is the “Sing the Faith” smaller blue hymnal)
Lighting of the Advent Candle The Ball Family
Leader: Advent is a time of preparation. We work very hard to
prepare our homes, gifts and food. Let us work on
preparing our hearts to make room for him. People: Come Lord Jesus, into our hearts.
The second candle is lit.
Leader: On this second Sunday of Advent, we light the candle of peace. Jesus said, “My peace I leave you. It is not as the world gives.”
People: We long for the godly peace that passes understanding. We pray for Shalom to be in our hearts this season. We pray for peace in our world.
Response Hymn #2090 STF - Advent Carol (verse 2)
Light the Advent candle, two: Think of humble shepherds, who filled with wonder at the sight, of the child of Christmas night.
Candle, candle, burning bright, Shining in the cold winter night; Candle, candle, burning bright, fill our hearts with Christmas light.
Call to Worship Leader: The day of God is coming: lift up your voices. Cry out with the strength God provides. People: We await God’s coming day with anticipation. We seek the peace and patience God provides. Leader: Comfort, comfort my people, says our God. Speak tenderly to my suffering people. People: We will prepare the way for the One who is coming. God’s hand is upon us. Praise be to God!
*Hymn - “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus” GTG #82
*Prayer of Confession (adapted from I Peter 3: 11-16) Leader: Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way,
what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness? In accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.
ALL: While we are waiting for these things, we strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish. We confess that we are carried away with the error of the lawless and have lost our stability. We have lost our way in the glitter and lights of this season. We do not seek holiness. We seek things that give only temporary happiness and not true peace. Only you, O God, who forgives us, can give us the greatest gift of all, your Son. Amen.
*Words of Assurance Leader: Distracted by so many things of this world, we become disoriented and lost. People: We look for peace in the wrong places. Leader: All the while, peace comes from the journey within our souls. Jesus says “My peace I give you, not as the world gives.” People: In Jesus Christ we find that peace and wholeness. Thanks be to God!
*Congregational Response - “Gloria” # 583 GTG (sing twice)
Gloria, Gloria In Excelsis Deo Gloria, Gloria Alleluia, Alleluia!
*Sharing of the Peace Leader: In community, we are lifted beyond ourselves and reminded that we are not alone. This is the peace of Christ. May it be with you. People: And also with you.

RESPONSE TO THE WORD
*Affirmation of Faith - The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the
dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
The Offering
“To give and then not feel that one has given
is the very best of all ways of giving.“

Thank you
Dear Martha Jane, I would like to thank you, your husband Fred and your church, Col-lingswood Presbyterian Church for their tremendous help with last week’s Thanksgiving dinner. The contribution and preparation of ten turkeys was a blessing. Your efforts truly allowed God’s blessing to bring smiles to all participants and contribute to the success of feeding the seniors and families of Whitman Park. On Thanksgiving we were able to provide dinner to seventy five individuals as well give out twenty food baskets. We received many compliments on how good the food was as well as the many thanks for having a meal on Thanks-giving. So once again in behalf of myself, Second Chance Outreach, 100 Strong and United Neighbors, please let everyone know how much we were truly touched by their support. As we continue through this holiday season, my prayer for your entire family and Church is that God will continue to bless all areas of your life. May God Bless Rev. Dennis McCullough Second Chance Outreach Services

On Life Time
December 7th @ 9:00 PM
December 8th @ 8:00 PM
The miniseries begins with Dinah’s (Ferguson) happy childhood
spent inside the red tent where the women of her tribe gather and
share the traditions and turmoil of ancient womanhood. The film re-
counts the story of Dinah’s mothers Leah (Driver), Rachel (Baccarin),
Zilpah and Bilhah, the four wives of Jacob (Glen). Dinah matures and
experiences an intense love that subsequently leads to a devastating
loss, and the fate of her family is forever changed. Winger portrays
Rebecca, Jacob’s mother while Tudor stars as Joseph, Dinah’s brother.

Nominating Committee:
This church is so blessed to have the dedicated and supportive mem-
bership that we do! There are many ways we can give, not just finan-
cially but also we can give our time and talents toward the future of
Collingswood Presbyterian Church.
Candace Lowden, Martha Jane Caldwell Bates and Dennis Kolecki are
serving as your Nominating Committee this year, and it is time to
prayerfully consider your place in the future of our church.
We have a place for 3 Deacons and 1 Session member (Elders) for 3
year terms. We are also looking for 2 Deacons for 1 year terms. We
are also looking for a member of our Senior High youth to be a Youth
Deacon. Please prayerfully consider your role in the future of our
church; the direction you’d like to see us go in, the activities and pro-
grams you want to see in place, and how we can continue to grow in
spirit and fellowship with each other in this service.
“The call to serve as elder is a call to serve the spiritual as well as administrative
needs of God’s people. It’s a call to build up the body of Christ, which means much
more than planning for building repairs or making budget adjustments. It means
ensuring that the members of the body have the opportunity to be engaged in the
type of ministry and mission that will help them achieve spiritual maturity. El-
ders are called to be spiritual leaders, strengthening and nurturing the faith and
life of the congregation committed to their charge.”
“The office of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness,
and service after the example of Jesus Christ. Deacons at CPC create a hos-
pitable fellowship, a warm welcome and compassionate outreach to our
members who are ill and homebound. They also have a vital ministry reach-
