Dear Parents and Guardians,100 DAYS What a wonderful celebration for the Preps last Friday, as they acknowledged their first 100 days at school. Thank you to the parents for all their support in creating fabulous costumes, posters, balloons and beautifully decorated cakes.
The teachers did a superb job in preparing the children for the day. I was impressed that even on such an exciting fun day the children were attentive and focused on learning. The tone in each Prep room was calm and ordered, as the children reflected and celebrated their achievements.
ATHLETICS DAY Many thanks to Mr Ganley and Mr Trott for organising the Athletics Day on Monday. The children were enthusiastic and involved as they competedin a variety of events. Thank you the teachers for their hard work and supervision and to the parents who were able to support the children on the day. Congratulations to all the children who attended and participated with enthusiasm. We want ALL children to enjoy these experiences. If cost is an issue please talk to Mrs Treloar or Mrs O’Connor and we will find a way for your child to attend.

Prep 100 Days of School
Friday the 4th of August was a huge milestone for our Prep students. This date marked 100 days of school for the Preps and they celebrated all things 100. The students demonstrated the PYP attitude of creativity when it came to dressing up for the day. Some of the students dressed up as though they were 100 years old while others decorated t-shirts with 100 hundred stickers, beads and lots of colour.
The activities for the day consisted of the Preps reflecting on how far they have come since their very first day of school, making special hats to celebrate the occasion and learning about the number 100 in all different kinds of ways.
The day ended with a very special assembly where all their hard work and learning was acknowledged and celebrated.
Well done and congratulations to all Prep students for completing 100 days of school!

As part of our inquiry on ‘How the world works’ we have been investigating our central idea ‘Living things depend on each other and their environment’ We have learnt some interesting facts that we would like to share with you.
People, plants, butterflies are living things because they can move, drink and eat. Non-living things are scarves, computers because they don’t drink or move.
Calista
The plants roots help it stay in the soil.
Matilda
Living things need water, food and air to grow.
Advay
A frog starts off as an egg then it turns into a tadpole, then a froglet and then it turns into an adult frog.
Gabriela
Plants are living things because they grow and change as they get older. There are many different types of plants. My favourite plant is a sunflower.
Sianna
Frogs are living things. They need water, food and air to grow.
Gren
My grass heads name is Foxy Boxy and it needs water and sun for it to grow. It has grown a lot of grass!
Sathvik
I water my grass head every day and put it near the window so it can grow. I made my grass head with our grade 6 buddies and it is called Mary.
Holly
My grass head is called Eisa and I like to play with all her hair. I water her everyday and I put her near the sun so she can grow.
Isabella
If you would like to make a grass head like us you can watch the Mr Maker video. It is fun watching your grass head grow. Look at how much grass our grass heads have they a hair-cut!!!

Grade 1 Coding Experience
On Monday the 7th of August, the Grade One students met their new friends, the ‘Bee-Bots’ and ‘Blue-Bots’ in the school library. Bee-Bots’ and ‘Blue-Bots’ are programmable devices, students can learn what they can do and how to program them. The purpose of this introduction was to link with the new Australian Curriculum in the domains of Year 1 Science and Technologies. The Grade One children enthusiastically explored how to control the devices by creating some simple algorithms. For example, some students programmed the ‘Blue-Bots’ to go from the grocery shop to the café using one of the large mats.
Our Grade One students loved this experience and they are looking forward to using these devices and to learn some new coding skills.

Grade 2 had a great time exploring their Inquiry with the ‘Robots Come to Us’ incursion. They were able to use motors and different bits and pieces to build trolley’s and robots. Using coding they were able to make the wheels, eyes and a flag move on their machine. They also had the pleasure of watching a Year 10 robot dance and flip through a coding program. They had a great time exploring these inventions as part of their Inquiry “Ideas and creativity change the way we live”.

Well done to all students who participated in the school athletics day on Monday. The weather ended up being OK even though at times it was very threatening and a bit cool.
Thank you to all the staff and family helpers who assisted on different events throughout the day.
The competition was pretty close all day and I believe for the first time Jade has won the carnival. Orange House had been on a massive streak of wins, so it was exciting to have a new winner this year. All the Jade students were very happy when they were announced as the victors.
Students will begin finding out over the coming days which events they have qualified for the District Carnival on the 23rd of August.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Seabrook Primary School will be celebrating Book Week between 21st and 25th of August 2017. Book Week celebrates Australian authors and illustrators of Children’s books. It’s a wonderful time to immerse children in literature and celebrate books and reading.
The theme this year is ‘Escape to everywhere’.
“We all know books offer the perfect escape. Want to travel the world, fight dragons, time travel, fall in love, or survive school? Well, look no further than your nearest bookshelf. But libraries offer an escape also, a place to relax, learn, discover, experiment and create…the options are endless.”(- Madison’s Library)
Book Character Parade8:50am - 9:50am on the soccer field
To celebrate this occasion we will be having a Book Character Parade on Friday morning of the 25th of August. The parade will be a whole school event with both junior and senior school showcasing their costumes. Students are encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite book character, however, be creative and try to use items of clothing and/or props from home. In addition, classes will be creating props early in the week, which will be suitable to use for the parade, for those students unable to source a costume from home.
Each grade will have an opportunity to parade their costume with the school community and students will enjoy participating in literacy activities during Book Week.
We hope you can join us for our special day!

Drop off and Pick up zone
Thank you to the families who have been using the new drop off & pick up zone. Parents/guardians are able to safely drop and pick up our students close to either of two pedestrian gates.
We have almost 1000 students (700 families) entering and departing our school everyday, which is situated on very busy Point Cook Road.
On average, our students are being safely collected in less than 10 minutes from the drop off zone after school.
If more families use the new zone in Mintaro Way, it should reduce congestion in Point Cook Road, the visitors car park and surrounding streets.
This will free up more spaces for parents/guardians who wish to park then walk their children to/from classrooms, particularly if their children are in Prep - 2 classes.
Please try to use the new drop off and pick up zone, it is running very smoothly.
Thanking you, Seabrook Primary School Leadership Team
