SIPROTEC 7UT512/513Transformer Differential Protection Relay

The 7UT512/7UT513 differential protec-tion relays are used for fast and selectiveisolation of short-circuits in transformersof all voltage levels and also in rotatingelectric machines and short lines. The par-ticular application can be chosen by set-ting. In this way an optimal adaptation ofthe relay to the protected object can beachieved. The protection relay can beparameterized for use with three-phaseand single-phase transformers. In additionto this, a thermal replica is integrated forthe supervision of the thermal losses in theplant. Two variants of the differential relaycan be supplied: The 7UT512 relay with acompact design is suited for two-windingtransformers as well as for motors or gen-erators and short lines.

A backup overcurrent-time protection andtwo thermal monitoring functions are alsointegrated. The larger 7UT513 unit is usedfor two-winding and three-winding trans-formers, generators/motors and short two-end and three-end lines.

Protection functions

Short-circuit protection for two andthree-winding transformers with inte-grated vector group and ratio adaption

Restraint against inrush of transformersoverexcitation and CT-saturation

Short-circuit protection for generatorsand motors with high setting sensivity

Short-circuit protection for short linesand busbars up to 3 feeders

 Overload protection with a thermalcharacteristic for 2 windings/2 termina-tions

Two-stage overcurrent backup protec-tion for one winding. On the basis ofthe 7UT513 hardware, a restrictedearth-fault protection or a sensitive,definite-time overcurrent for one starpoint (tank protection) is available asan alternative

Features

 Restraint during inrush, overexcitationand CT-saturation

 Commissioning aid

Monitoring functions

 Self-supervision of the relay

 Event logging

 Fault logging Oscillographic fault recording

Communication protocols

 System interface:– IEC 60870-5-103 protocol

Hardware

 Digital inputs: 3/5 binary inputs Digital outputs: 2/5 trip relays;

5/11 alarm relays

Front design

PC front port for convenient relaysetting

 8/16 LEDs for local indication

Two thermal monitoring functions are in-tegrated as additional functions. Moreover,as an alternative, a standby definite-time/inverse-time overcurrent or a restrictedearth-fault (REF) or a tank protectionfunction is available for one winding.

The 7UT513 can also be used where thestarpoint current of the transformer mustbe acquired or more inputs and outputsare required than are provided by the7UT512. The device can interface withconventional control systems or alterna-tively be integrated in the modern substa-tion control system.
