Trauma exposure is ubiquitous in our society. Over half the general population report having had exposure to at least one traumatic event over their lifetime.3

Nearly 3 million children – 1 out of every 25 children - experience some form of endangerment each year in the United States. In any given year, more than 2 million children experience significant physical or emotional neglect.

Many of these children will experience immediate consequences…1 In Arizona, as of December 2016, there were 17,149 children in foster care down from a high of 19,044 in January.” ~Children’s Action Alliance

The common denominator of all of these traumatic experiences is that they involve some sort of threat to our physical, emotional, and/or psychological safety.1 “Traumatized people often are terrified of the sensations in their own bodies.” “Unresolved ‘issues in our tissues’ manifest physically…”4 Yoga became a major cornerstone in our understanding that it is imperative to befriend one’s bodily sensations to overcome the imprints of trauma.1
