About 24 hours after he cut the cake to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the town's founding, Town Attorney Arthur McCormick said, "The $125" 000 will probably be more than sufficient to cover the purchase price of the property."

The 4-acre site includes about 1,650 feet of river frontage. The river frontage has two areas removed from it, o~e of them Smith's Marina.

The property is north of VIaman's Creek and south of Winne Road in the southeast part ot the Town. Winne and Lyons Roads will give access to the park site which will be developed with nature and organized recreation areas.

According to Mr. McCormick, who presided over the town board meeting in the absence of Supervisor Bertram Kohinke who is vacationing in Florida. the purchase will be made from Wiggand & Bagle Inc. of Cedar Hill.

Although the $125,000 will cover the purchase price of the site, Mr, McCormick said this does not eliminate the possibility of securing state and federal aid Lo help finance the purchase and development.

At an earlier meeting, Paul Dickinson said the federal government could provide 50 per cent of the cost of purchase and development and the state as much as 25 per cent.

gram on veal cookery being televised at 4:30 p.rn.on April 3.

According to Mrs. Eleanor J. Wages, Table Talk hostess; few homemakers prepare veal for family meals. This may be due to the fact that it is somewhat more expensive than other red meats or because the homemaker is not aware of the many methods used to cook veal.

A demonstration will be given showing- how. veal cutlets can" be obtained from a veal-round roast. This will prove to be a good way

to cut the cost of veal cutlets. Mrs. Wages will also prepare veal birds and a delicious veal stew showing how variety can be achieved in meat dishes.

Homes Tour The annual Homes Tour of the

Albany Area Wellesley Club will take place on Saturday, .May 4. This year the tour will focus on the charming and historical township of Coeymans in southeast Albany County. Except for

the Warren home in Greene County, all the tour houses are in the township of Coeymans.

Coeymans was named for Barent Pieterse . Coeymans, an immigrant from Utrecht in 1636. He purchased land from the Katskill Indians in 1673 and secured a patent from Governor LJvelace on April 7 of that year. The oldest home in the area is that of Barent's daughter, Arriantze Coeymans. It is an old stone and brick house, begun about 1716. The building still stands near the

Coeymans Landing and is in the process of being restored. The Armer house, on the tour, dates to 1723.

The following owners have consented to open their houses to tour visitors: Mr. and Mrs. James A. It sounded like the great Amer' ican hoax at first but with a tragic undertone. However, a ,hit of investigation proved "Operation Rescue" to be serious and to touch, in a practical way. on the matter of deep concern to everyone aware of the truth that wild life the world over is fast disappearing. Many of us are con· cerned - we write letters and talk about this but seldom can we actually do something concrete to help. Now is your chance.

ASS reaches 300,000,000.

Thanks to our depositors. And the future looks brighter than ever. We're the first savings bank in Northeastern New York to reach total assets of $300 million-and proud of it. But we're not running this message just to talk about our accomplishment.

We're grateful to our depositors who have made it all possible through their confidence in us. For our part we intend that our leadership shall continue. We shall pay consistently high dividends-our current 5% is the highest in the State. We shall continue to be eager to help with our mortgage and home improvement loans. We shall continue the progressive attitudes that will be of greatest assistance to our depositors and the increasing population of the areas we serve.

To some, reaching $300,000,000 in assets might seem an end in itself. But to us, it looks like it's just the beginning.

Friendly Coming

Work has started on clearing the site for the once controversial Friendly Ice Cream Corp. Restaurant in the Town of Bethlehem. The restaurant is expected to open in August.

When the Friendly Ice Cream Corp. initiated proceedings about a year ago to construct a restaurant at 270-272 Delaware Avenue, it became involved in a zoning hassle which was not resolved until several months later.

Recently a home on the future site of 'the re:;lauranl was demolished, clearing the way for construction of the new building. The work will probably get un· derway in 'the next couple of weeks, according to Bethlehem Building Inspector Robert Col· lins and Richard Mastocks, regional real estate supervisor for the firm.

The· ·restaurant will be a onestory brick structure of Georgian colonial design and will hilVe a seating capacity of 58 customers and a parking lot for 40 cars. The 80x35 foot building will be exact· ly the same as the Friendly Ice Cream Restaurant on State St.. Schenectady. Drive-in service will not be permitted because of Bethlehem Zoning regulations.

When proceedings were initiated early in 1967, the firm asked for an ,exception to construct the restaurants in a CC Zone. The Bethlehem Zoning ordinance prohibited construction of restaurants in CC commercial zones and the company's request we rejected by the Bethlehem Board of. Appeals.

THE SPOTLIGHT

William Crannell of 11 Laurel Drive, Elsmere, one of the own· ers of the neighboring apartment building at 274 Delaware Ave· nue represented the residents of the building and opposed the ex· ception contending the restaurant would affect the privacy. of their homes. He also said parking at the rest, aurant would be inadequate and an overflow of cars would cause hazardous traffic conditions.
