The decade began with Hollywood experiencing financial and artistic problems.

The younger generation of free love, drug use and the changing climate for gender roles effected the decades movie making

Restrictions on creativeness, violence language and sexuality had gone down.

This enabled young directors known as “movie brats” to be creative and begin a “new wave” of cinema.

Considered the renaissance of American film making, studios were looking for the big blockbuster, only putting money in to a few films hopping one or two would make a substantial profit.

Much of the industries focus was on box office numbers and creating action packed films with new effects for the younger generation

Although this made it difficult to predict what would be a hit.

Scooby Doo is and iconic cartoon which first appeared in late 1969 early 1970.

Created by Hanna-Barbara Productions. Similar productions include: The

Flintstones, Jetsons, Jonny Quest and Dextors Laboratory.

A half speaking great dane and his friends Shaggy, (the stoner) Velma( the brains) and Fred (the jock), would spend each episode solving supernatural mysteries.

Scooby doo is derived from the Frank Sinatra song, “Strangers in the Night.

Many known actors have voiced characters on the show.

Don Messic and Casey Kasem as Scooby due and Shaggy.

The Adams Family, Batman and Robin and the Three Stooges also made at least two appearances on the show.

Scooby-Doo spawned multiple remakes and redus of the show over the past 40 years.

Some versions feature a different variations on the shows supernatural theme.

The show has included other characters such as Scooby's cousin Scooby-Dum and Scrappy-Doo

Lastly the live versions of Scooby-Doo featuring some of Hollywood's biggest actors, including Mathew Lillard and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Grease is a cult classic made in 1978. It is a Broadway play turned movie Written by Jim Jacobs (musical) Warren

Casey (musical), Screenplay and Adaptation by: Bronte Woodard and Allan Carr.

Staring John Travolta (Danny Zuko), Olivia Newton-John (Sandy Olsen), Stockard Channing (Betty Rizo) and Jeff Conway( Kenickie)

Grease is based on a high school in 1958-59

Made in the 70’s at the peak of the sexual revelation that would arrive in the mid 60’s but flourish during the 70’s

Seen threw the eyes of its two main character Danny and Sandy, representing the segment already experiencing there own sexual revolution.

Eventually conforming sandy to express her sexuality without fear or shame.

These same ideas were starting to flourish with the female population of the 1970’s of strong women and gender reassignment.

The end of Grease suggest that lasting, healthy relationship can only last when both partners are openly themselves, with out regard for outside opinions and social conventions.

Grease is a movie about the times to come. The seeds of what blossomed into the 70’s where people and the country were changing.

Mainstream middle America, New York (including the beat writers) and teenagers.

Apocalypse now was one of the first hit independent movies made in the 70’s by the crop of new directors starting to break the barriers.

Based on the novel Heart of Darkness it keeps it gritty edge by being shot out of the box and on site

Censorship and or the lack there of made it easier for young directors to be artistic and speak there minds.

Animal house is the iconic sex, college teenage comedy.

Most of the films we watch today such as American Pie or the Hangover would not be around today if not for animal house

Directed by John Landis Animal house reaches in the the college

culture of the 70’s With the country excepting sex, drugs

rock and role and gender reassignment both young writers and directors were able to be artistic and not worry about offending anyone.

John Belushi, Tim Matheson, Karen Allen and Donald Sotherland were some of the stars of this movie.

Showing the growth of two college freshman just trying to be excepted by there pers.

The toga party and the road trip are main themes in the movie. Beginning a kind of comedy that we see today.

The music and life style of the 70’s is in full view for the world to see.

The coming of age for these two freshman and soon to graduate seniors is a crystal ball into what people went threw and how they change movie making in the 70’s
