WRITE GREAT CONTENT

Although the way we read has changed with the invention of smart phones, Kindles and iPads, people do still read, just not as many physical books anymore.

This means that if you have the ability to write some really good blogs and articles then your visitors are likely to want to read the next instalment and therefore sign up to your mailing list to make sure they do not miss out.

Chuck in a few free exclusive articles and guides as well to thank them for their email address and you are on to a winner, and outside of the time you take to spend to write such thrilling masterpieces, this kind of email bait will not cost you any money to implement – bonus!

SPECIAL OFFERS

We all love a special offer. Whether it’s a BOGOF at Tesco’s (other supermarkets are available) or a 10% discount at our local burger joint, special offers are the marketing element that nearly every business can in some way offer.

Customers love them as not only is it a way of saving money, it is often a way of trying something they may never have tried before, and as I mention, from a business point of view it is easy to find a special offer no matter what industry you are.

If you are worried it is going to cost you a fortune then don’t, as you just need to get creative, as for example if you were a Web Design company you could offer a free website review, which only costs you your time, and not a single penny!

PRIZE DRAWS

If everyone that signs up to your newsletter had a chance of winning a new home every month, I am pretty sure that your mailing list would be pretty big by now, but if you cannot afford to give away a 5 bed semi in Kent, there is going to be something you can give away related to your niche.

If you are an online shop then you will have a few old products you could afford to offer as a carrot on the stick, or, you could simply offer someone the chance to win £100 worth of vouchers to spend …. With you!

No matter what you offer (within reason) a prize draw that happens every month for both new and existing subscribers is always a winner, and it can be a really cost effective way of getting more people to sign up and keeping those existing subscribers active.

EXCLUSIVE INFORMATION

People like to be the first to know about things they are interested in. My friends over at VodZilla.co offer a newsletter that gives them the inside information to new releases on video on demand sites like NetFlix and Amazon Prime.

Their visitors sign up to the newsletter because not only does it save them time when it comes to finding out what they can watch when they get home from work, but it is also gives them a little bit of information that they are probably going to find out before a lot of others, which makes them feel very special.

Of course, not every industry can offer this kind of information, but if you can, it is a sure fire way to keep people on your mailing list and also entice them to sign up in the first place.

FREE DOWNLOADS

Pay Per Click is a great way of getting people onto your mailing list if you are willing to spend a bit of money to attract them.

Some business owners might take a dim view of this, but when you think of it logically, if that one subscriber costs you 50p for the click, yet they make a purchase from you, then is it not a really well spent 50p?

Of course, you need to make sure that you lead them to a reason to sign up to your mailing list, but by having a specific PPC campaign that targets the goal of more email sign ups, you can quickly build a mailing list that could be worth a small fortune in the near future!

PAY FOR SUBSCRIBERS

You probably (or hopefully) have a decent Facebook page and a Twitter following, but how many of them are also on your mailing list?

Whilst I am never one for sending the same message, to the same people again and again, there is no harm in those same people seeing a message on Facebook and then in their email, as long as you are not pumping out communication left right and centre.

You should be making sure that you promote your newsletter on your social media channels to make sure that you have as many potential customers on as many marketing platforms as you can, which increases the chances of engagement and therefore conversions!

SOCIAL MEDIA SHARING

If you are selling pet products and you offered a free download entitled “How To Make Your Pet Toys Last Longer”, I guarantee you people will download it, no matter how many times you convince yourself that people are not interested.

The Internet has opened up a massive demand to learn more and if you can offer a free download (or whitepaper as they are often known) and you get it in front of the right people, they are going to download it and give you their email list at the same time.

This is what we call a win win, because not only do you get their email to add to your potential sales list, but you also get your brand, knowledge and authority in front of them in your download.
