Work in progress view of part of a cleaned back trench, aligned W – E along the south side of Fraser Street, running towards the Church Street intersection with the eastern defile onto Queensgate. Feature 7: A redeposited midden lens, appearing at 0.2m depth below the present surface, beneath 0.05m of tarmac, 0.1m of dressed cobble paving and 0.05m of sandy silt with washed pebble and stone sharp inclusions. The midden material is comprised of dark grey organic material remains; assorted fragmented shells, animal bone and charcoal flecking and abuts a lens of unsorted mix of silty-sand, dark grey clay and gravel with occasional small stone inclusions. Where this lens has been cleaned back a dark orange sand; gravel, stone and small cobble compacted surface has been revealed to the west of the re-deposited midden material (picture foreground). The area is very disturbed, redundant utility pipes, including a length of lead piping are evident directly east of the midden material.

This underlies 0.03m of present surface paving; 0.05m of concrete, sand and gravel mix, with some stone and brick fragment inclusions. In the NW facing section profile a layer of tarmac (0.04m approx.) intrudes, underlying the present surface, to the ENE and 0.2m of dressed stone cobbles to the S. This is consistent with the trench's extent into the SE boundary between the paved and roadway surfaces that extend along Church Street. This trench is sterile of archaeology.
