System performance

Although demands for improved

performance increase …

• No clear KPI’s defined

• Access to the appropriate data is not

guaranteed.

Cost reduction

Whilst overall operating costs must

be reduced…

• No clear view on cost drivers.

• Imprecise approach to measuring

value of improvements.

What is happening today?

Technological advance

The adoption of modern condition

monitoring technologies means:

• The assets become “black boxes”,

capable of generating data on

massive scale.

• Data collection and analysis becomes

more complex.

• Trends and indicators are lost amidst

the volume of available diagnostics.

Feature Benefit

• Automated Smart Filtering • We implement business rules to filter and enhance the diagnostic data of your rolling stock. These rules are smart filters which

enables the system to identify the underlying causes of the fault events reported by the on-train monitoring system. In this way, all

essential information is available at a glance, without being obscured by the immense technical data available.

• Build for smaller and medium

series

• Suitable for series from 10 up to 100 units of rolling stock.

• Ready-to-use • Ricardo’s team will have undertaken the very-specialised task of creating the rules on which the system will rely. Only a limited

amount of interview time will be required from your personnel.

• Continuous improvement • After the implementation of the SmartFleet tool, your own staff will also be able to programme new business rules either by

themselves or working with the Ricardo team.

• Internet accessible • The SmartFleet tool is provided with an Operate dashboard and several Analytics dashboards. All dashboards are accessible

exclusively through the internet (anywhere, anytime), to allow maximum flexibility for users at all levels.

• User Friendly • The Operate dashboard gives you an easy overview of all occurring (filtered) faults in the trains. For each fault, the following

information can be shown;

• instructions for the driver

• instructions for the mechanic

• necessary tools and spare parts

• Back-up team of train and

software specialists

• Ricardo has a team of 400 rail specialists and close partnerships with a range of specialist software suppliers.

• Over 20 years’ experience in condition monitoring of rolling stock

• Real-time support as required and 24/7 backup in case of emergencies.

• Your whole fleet in one

monitoring tool

• SmartFleet is based on the Ricardo Intelligent Rail platform that is suited for rolling stock from all OEMs.

• Easy Data Exchange • Data can be exported to any other program (example to your ERP system).

Approach

SmartFleet can continually monitor the performance of critical

systems, providing a real-time overview of all open faults and warnings

from every train.

Where performance is found to be degrading, the helpdesk is

automatically informed by the software. The helpdesk can then

determine what the driver is rquired to do.

Situation and objective

To minimize delays, a train operator wishes to ensure its drivers are

aware of what they need to do in the event of certain failures.

When a failure occurs, the system doesn’t tell the driver how to respond.

Results and benefits

Early degradation of performance can be identified at an early stage, with

the driver able to carefully manage the situation until the train can be

taken out of service for attention.

Other examples: Reduced delays for a train operator

Approach

By analysing the diagnostics data from the vehicle, SmartFleet’s filters can

point out if non-availability is based on normal maintenance issues or a result of

actions outside the maintainer influence (operator, infrastructure etc).

Situation and objective

An operator and a maintainer have agreements on availability.

Based on the ERP systems, it is very difficult to assess whether maintenance is

due to normal use or due to incorrect usage of the vehicles.

Results and benefits

SmartFleet can show if parties meet the contracts agreements.

Customised Analytics dashboard offers insight in non-availability.

Based on the SmartFleet analysis, corrective action can be scheduled (training,

systems upgrading etc).

Other examples: An operator wants to know if a maintainer achieves the contract requirements
