4 CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 Huawei showcases quad-core devicesHuawei captured consumer attention today during this week’s GITEX technology show as the company revealed plans for the UAE launch of two of its latest smart devices including the company’s first quad-core smartphone, the Ascend D1 quad XL, and the world’s first 10 inch quad-core tablet with full HD resolution, the MediaPad 10 FHD—both utilizing Huawei’s own proprietary chipset.

Showcased during a GITEX sneak preview earlier today, both of the Android-run devices will be available to the public starting November 1st in retailers across UAE. According to Mr. Jiao Jian, President of Huawei Device in the Middle East, the upcoming releases characterize Huawei’s heavy investments in research &

development over the past year and underpin the company’s recent arrival into the premium consumer electronics segment.

“Huawei has listened to people’s top demands and focused significant resources over the last year to bring distinct advancements into the Middle East gadget industry,” notes Jiao. “Both the Ascend D1 quad XL and the MediaPad 10 FHD exceed all these expectations while expanding the realm of possibilities for consumers with Huawei’s own super-fast processor, extended battery life, and high-quality audio visual capabilities.”

Breaking the industry mold, Huawei has selected to run both devices with its own proprietary quad-core chipset; becoming one of only two vendors globally to

fully develop their own quad-core processors. Featured exclusively within Huawei devices, the company now holds a coveted position within the industry in being able to pioneer its own advancements within the processor arena, schedule the release of such advancements, and realize cost efficiencies by managing the production line.

printer products, which are being exhibited at GITEX.

“Increasingly people are taking a rugged mobile device and needing to be able to print a receipt or label as part of that business process, and that’s what these technologies allow,” Snadden said.

Intermec is here with its own presence but also with its partner network, which Snadden said is vital to the success of the company.

“We would not be as effective with meeting customers’ demands on the ground in so many territories were it not for a very loyal and competent partner network. It is the partners that provide the day-to-day support to our customers and bring the final solution to the customer in terms of hardware, software and support,” he said.

“Mirnah Technology Systems is one of our strongest partners in the region and was in fact our EMEA Partner of the Year last year for its huge success.”

Intermec is exhibiting at stand E4-5 in Hall 4.

Graphic International Centre, along with Lomond and Memjet have announced the arrival of, what it claims is, the world’s fastest office colour printer to the MENA market. The newest ‘Lomond EvoJet 2’ desktop printer provides record speeds and affordability to all businesses.

The EvoJet Office 2 will be available through various partners in the MENA, putting businesses in control of costs and enables them to enjoy all the benefits of high-quality colour printing that’s fast, accessible and affordable.

Graphic says Memjet technology is the first major office printing breakthrough in more than 20 years, powering printers for people and businesses that don’t have time to wait. This is achieved through a combination of its stationary, page-wide printhead, unique nozzle design and silicon chip design. The printhead itself uses more than 70,000 ink nozzles to reach much faster speeds

than traditional laser and inkjet technologies.

“After many years, a technology finally is bringing colour printing back into businesses, at speeds that match the increasing pace of work life. Memjet’s breakthrough innovation is really shaking up this sector – we’ve already seen this elsewhere through our global partners. Everyone is constantly

amazed at the bottom-line benefits of installing the world’s fastest and most cost-effective office colour printers,” states Len Lauer, Chairman and CEO of Memjet.

The Lomond EvoJet 2 improves productivity in fast-paced office environments for all types of businesses, particularly those which would benefit internally and externally from printing more pages in colour

quickly and affordably such as financial, training and engineering services, design agencies, estate agents and in the hospitality sector.

“At Graphic International we strive hard to bring competitive solutions for Printing needs of various business verticals in the Region and today we are proud to bring forth a revolutionary product which will be aimed at businesses wanting to gain control on the costs of printing in color at high speed for business applications. This printer will be backed by Graphic’s trusted expertise in maintaining high speed Printers & MFP’s in the region for last 3 decades,” states Paresh Patel, Director of Graphic International Centre.

The second generation EvoJet features a whole new design and some key productivity improvements including a larger manual feed tray, LCD screen and functional on-board keypad. The EvoJet Office 2 can be used in all office environments

Whilst recent reports have indicated that Ultrabook sales have been disappointing, Intel is adamant the Middle East continues to react well to the technology.

According to Nassir Nauthoa, GITEX Shopper 2012 was a very successful event for the Ultrabook, with most vendors selling out their products. “From that standpoint, the response is definitely at a good pace,” Nauthoa said.

However, he also acknowledged that there is still extra room for

growth in that particular category of personal computing.

“We’re in the process of establishing the Ultrabook category. We believe that the form factor of Ultrabook is a multistage approach. Next year there will be another revision of Ultrabooks as we come out with the new micro-architecture, which will build additional capabilities. So it’s a long-stage approach and Q4 2012 going into next year you will continue to see new devices with new capabilities.

It’s our challenge to make sure the customers understand these products,” he said.

With many industry insiders predicting an imminent tipping point in the definition of personal computing, let by the rise of the tablet, Nauthoa said he believes there is indeed still room for the Ultrabook in that space.

“If you look at the projections of the PC market, irrespective of the tablet, it’s set to grow significantly between now and 2016. In this part

Still space for Ultrabook in PC market, says Intel

of the world we’re still in an emerging market. I do accept that the tablet will be an additive to the market, but not necessarily replace the laptop. We have ultrabooks and are placing a lot of emphasise around them. People are buying a lot of devices and the customer has a lot of choice,” he said.

“Then post-Windows 8 there is going to be even more types of devices in our portfolio, with touch capability being one of them and a device that can be used as either a tablet or notebook. There are approximately 140 models coming through and 40 of these will be touch-capable. The PC market will grow over time but I don’t think the tablet will completely take over yet – the great thing for the end user is they have a great selection of devices,” he added.

Asides from its Ultrabooks, Intel is using its presence at GITEX this year to showcase some of the technology it has been working on in the security space, both before and after its acquisition of McAfee.

“At Intel, we’ve taken a long term view that security is going to be one of the main things we need to address. Between now and 2015, we expect there to be 15 billion devices connected to the Internet. All of these devices are connective, consuming and analysing data. Data for any company is very important and so therefore is securing it,” he said.

Waseela for Technology Consultations (Waseela), a systems integrator specialised in broadband wireless technologies and managed services for telecom operators, service providers and large enterprises in the region, announced that it has successfully demonstrated a state-of-the-art tools setup capable of performing multi-operators multi-technology Smartphone-based auditing and benchmarking measurements and analysis for two major cities in the Middle East region. The state-of-the-art tools

setup was based on multiple latest tools releases from the internationally leading supplier of 3G and 4G measurement tools, Accuver.

RAN optimisation, auditing and benchmarking is one of the key services that Waseela offers to telecom operators in the MENA region. Over the last few years Waseela successfully optimized, audited and benchmarked thousands of 2G, 3G and 4G sites in the region and continues today to offer RAN optimization managed services to thousands of sites. Waseela is exhibiting at GITEX 2012

and is demonstrating, jointly with its technology partner Accuver, the latest Smartphone-based optimization and benchmarking tools from Accuver that were used to achieve this technical milestone by Waseela.

Dr. Rami Abu Alhaija, Head of Optimization Department at Waseela, stated that “the significance of this development is that it marks the first time in the region for using Smartphone platforms like Android and Apple IOS in the optimization and benchmarking process as traditional tools were not designed

Waseela demos smartphone-based RF benchmarking

to deal with Smartphone platforms. Telecom operators are becoming more interested in auditing and benchmarking their RF KPIs based on Smartphones and Feature-Phones as these phones are quickly becoming the dominant in their networks. KPIs audit and benchmarking results based on traditional phones are no longer an accurate indicator of customers satisfaction.” Additionally the multi-technology multi-operator benchmarking tools setup that Waseela demonstrated is capable of measuring video KPIs in parallel to voice and data KPIs; these video KPIs are also becoming of more significance to telecom operators in the region, Dr. Rami added.
