UNIT OVERVIEW
Children will learn about the growth of a plant and understand its parts, uses and role in our lives. They will grow
their own plant and record its growth thus learning how to research and will also learn to be responsible and caring
towards plants and trees through various learning engagements.
PARENTS SUPPORT
Parents can take the children more to outdoor areas like parks and gardens and show them, the different varieties of
plants growing there.
They can show them the uses and parts of a plant that are readily available at home like fruits, vegetables and
medicines.

TRANS DISCIPLINARY SKILLS
Thinking skills: Students‟ will be using their thinking skills in regard to analyzing what the home needs. Children
will acquire knowledge by gaining specific facts, ideas and vocabulary. It will help them to analyze relationships
and also find unique characteristics of different types of homes. Thus, synthesizing the knowledge by creating,
designing and developing their own model of houses.
Research skills: Children will observe using all the senses relevant details of different types of houses. They will
collect data from a variety of sources such as surveys, direct observation, books, videos, people, museums and ICT.
Thus, interpreting data and drawing conclusions from relationships and patterns of different types of houses that
emerge from the organized information.
Communication skills: Students‟ communication skills will be honed as they build together, and finally present to
the class about their completed construction.

UNIT OVERVIEW
Our unit of inquiry is under the theme of Where We Are in Place and Time is titled „Homes‟. We are investigating
how and why people make their homes the way they do and this unit will encourage students to think about why
homes are made out of certain materials based on the geography and and needs.
PARENTS SUPPORT
Parents are invited as guest speakers and help in research work. Parents may send books relating to homes around
the world as reference and for sharing the information with other students as well.

During this unit students will inquire into the properties, behavior and application of matter. They will explore
various states of matter and engage in experiments to learn about the physical and chemical properties responsible
for the change in states of matter. They will use their knowledge about states of matter in practical and new ways.

UNIT OVERVIEW
In this UOI, in the Trans disciplinary theme “How the world works”, Students will be learning about the different
types of forces and energy through differentiated classroom engagements like “Energy bag”, “Place mat” etc. They
will visit the laboratory to observe and experience some experiments. During this inquiry they will use their
research skills to inquire about the various forms of forces and energy. They will further investigate how inventions
and inventors have transformed and impacted the lives of the people. Students will be guided to plan their
Exhibition as well as an awareness campaign to 'Save Energy' as part of “Action”.
PARENTS SUPPORT
Parents can assist their wards in doing experiments related to everyday experiences. You may take their wards for
scientific workshops to enhance their understanding. Parents may send books relating to forces and energy as
reference and for sharing the information with other students as well.

Through this unit the learners will work through the different types of Art; visual arts writing/language arts and

and express how the arts within the different societies are similar or different.

Parents can come as guest speakers, help in research work, take individual students to art galleries, help in creating
the different forms of artwork. Any help that can enhance students learning will highly be appreciated.

SFA Inter School Tournament
Gia Pereira from grade V participated and represented RBKIA in the SFA Inter School Tournament over the
Christmas vacation and won a Silver Medal in Lawn Tennis in the Girls U 10 category.
Presented medal by Mr. Purav Raja current ITF player representing India.
