2. THE CONTACT PROCESS.

This is a three stage process which converts liquid sulfur into

concentrated sulfuric acid.

Stage 1: The furnace

In this stage liquid sulfur is burned in a streamed of cleaned dried air to give

sulfur dioxide. This is an exothermic reaction represented by the equation.
