The Honkers took down the host MonDak Thunder, 33-25, but lost to Minot Ryan, 48-27. Against MonDak, Derrick Han- deland and Zane Miller pinned their opponents, Handeland in 1:01 and Miller in 1:08, while Diontrea Anderson worked out a 9-7 decision. Young wrestlers nish 4th in State Jr. Hi. tourney Andrew Christensen takes jr-high championship Andrew Christensen, an eighth grader who has normally been wrestling varsity, took the junior high world by storm on Saturday when he won a state championship at 140 pounds. Christensen sailed through the tournament, scoring 25.5 points for the Honkers and nishing the day undefeated. In his rst match, he took a 16-0 technical fall over Alex Martinez of Bowman County. The second round was a scare in facing Kayden Mertens of Wa- chter Middle School in Bismarck. Christensen pulled out an exciting 1-0 decision. Although the outcome wasn’t what they hoped for, the Honkers played well and lost by the narrow margin of 52-49. Kenmare fell behind 18-13 in the rst quarter but out scored Surrey 13-8 in the second period to knot the score at 26 at halftime. The third period was the down- fall when Surrey out scored the Honkers 10-5 to grab a 36-31 lead and held on to the lead to gain the 3-point win. Keaton Chrest led the Honk- ers with 13 points, Lucas Holter added 10, Sam Meidinger 9, Gar- rett Stroklund 8, Keagan Lauten- schlager 7 and Jaden McNeiley 2. Surrey got 15 from Cody Fuchs and 14 from Alex Hanson. Coach Keysor commented, “Defensively we were at footed in the perimiter and gave up way too many driving lanes which Surrey did a good job of attacking the basket and nishing at the rim. Our team didn’t rotate to the next guy which starts with our perimiter defense and when we let guys go by us it puts everyone in a tough spot”. The loss put the Honkers in the consolation bracket where they were paired against Glenburn on Thursday, losing to the Panthers 56-47. Kenmare fell behind 14-7, 27-20 and 39-26 at the quarter breaks. Defensively we were a little quicker to react, but still need to do a better job of knowing where our man is and where the ball is at. Too many times we are getting beat because our defense isn’t in good positions off the ball”. Witt picked up an 8-1 decision and Anderson was granted six points on a forfeit win. ________ Wrestlers face tough competition at Linton Coming off a good team per- formance in the Kenmare Invita- tional, the Honker wrestling team took a big hit in Linton Saturday. Skyler Ford was the highest placing Honker wrestler, nish- ing eighth in the 29-team tourna- ment. Lathan Stroklund was ninth, Payton Witt was 12th and Zane Miller 16th in a tournament head coach Danny Mogren knew was difcult going in. “It’s tough down there, it’s a tough tournament,” Mogren said. “But I like the tournament this time of year. It shows we’ve got a lot of work to do.” Mogren said there could be any number of reasons why the team struggled, but he was able to look at it as if the glass was half full. “We got to see kids we don’t normally see,” he said. “We can do some scouting and better un- derstand weight classes. Zane wrestled well but was out matched. Lathan was close and there was a lot of pressure on Skyler. He just didn’t perform.” Girls defeat the Bombers, lose to Velva and MLS Sisters Kate and Megan Zim- mer both hit double figures for the Kenmare Honkers in their 62-51 win over the Lewis & Clark- Berthold Bombers. Kate Zimmer led the Honkers with 16 on the night, followed by Ashley Bauer with 14 and Megan Zimmer 11. Marissa Jensen and Sierra Skar each added 7, Jeneca Kostad put up 5 and Taylor Schoe- mer, 3. The Bombers were led by Abby Simons, who led all scorers with 21. Kenmare fell behind in the rst quarter, but bounced back quickly in the second to go into the locker room at halftime with a 31-25 lead. Berthold added a couple of points to make it closer at the end of three, but the Honkers secured the win with a 14-7 fourth-quarter score. Kenmare’s C-Squad and Junior Varsity teams made it a clean sweep over the Bombers as the C- Squad won 48-36 and the Junior Varsity defeated the Bombers 49-30. Velva 55, Kenmare 27 Kenmare’s match-up against the Velva Aggies Thursday eve- ning was about the exact opposite as the previous game, as the Ag- gies came out with a very impres- sive full court press and sharp shooting to open an early 21-6 lead at the end of the rst quarter and continued to dominate with leads of 36-12 and 46-19 at the next two breaks. Velva, who appears to be a top contender in District 11 and Re- gion 6, got 22 points from Emma Passa, Hope Brewer added 17, and Kaitlyn Lund 7 to lead their team. Kenmare’s Jeneca Kostad, Sierra Skar and Megan Zimmer each scored 7 points, Taylor Schoe- mer 3, Marissa Jensen 2 and Kate Zimmer 1. Velva also got preliminary wins over the Honkers as the C-squad lost 45-39 and the junior varsity also lost 52-42 to the Aggies. MLS 48, Honkers 41 The Honkers hosted MLS Mon- day evening and lost to the Mav- ericks 48-41 in a non-conference game. The Honkers got off to a good start and led 11-8 at the rst quarter stop, but the Mavericks came back to tie the score at 24- 24 at halftime. The third quarter was all MLS as they outscored the Honkers 13-3 to take a 37-27 lead. Kenmare cut the margin to 4-points in the nal period but MLS prevailed for the win. Kate Zimmer scored 16 to lead the Honkers, Ashley Bauer added 14, Sierra Skar 6, Megan Zimmer 3 and Marissa Jensen 2. MLS was led by Kylie Aber- nathy with 17, Leah Feland 10, Allison Undlin and Janie Savelk- oul 8 each. In the preliminary game, Ken- mare’s C-Squad team defeated Bottineau 45-26. The young Honk- ers led 13-4, 23-10 and 39-16 at the quarter stops. Kenmare will host Bottineau tomorrow evening, Dec. 20th, for the nal game before the holiday break,

Sisters Kate and Megan Zim-mer both hit double figures for the Kenmare Honkers in their 62-51 win over the Lewis & Clark-Berthold Bombers.

Kate Zimmer led the Honkers with 16 on the night, followed by Ashley Bauer with 14 and Megan Zimmer 11. Marissa Jensen and Sierra Skar each added 7, Jeneca Kostad put up 5 and Taylor Schoe-mer, 3.

The Bombers were led by Abby Simons, who led all scorers with 21.

Kenmare fell behind in the fi rst quarter, but bounced back quickly in the second to go into the locker room at halftime with a 31-25 lead.

Berthold added a couple of points to make it closer at the end of three, but the Honkers secured the win with a 14-7 fourth-quarter score.

Kenmare’s C-Squad and Junior Varsity teams made it a clean sweep over the Bombers as the C-Squad won 48-36 and the Junior Varsity defeated the Bombers

49-30.Velva 55, Kenmare 27

Kenmare’s match-up against the Velva Aggies Thursday eve-ning was about the exact opposite as the previous game, as the Ag-gies came out with a very impres-sive full court press and sharp shooting to open an early 21-6 lead at the end of the fi rst quarter and continued to dominate with leads of 36-12 and 46-19 at the next two breaks.

Velva, who appears to be a top contender in District 11 and Re-gion 6, got 22 points from Emma Passa, Hope Brewer added 17, and Kaitlyn Lund 7 to lead their team.

Kenmare’s Jeneca Kostad, Sierra Skar and Megan Zimmer each scored 7 points, Taylor Schoe-mer 3, Marissa Jensen 2 and Kate Zimmer 1.

Velva also got preliminary wins over the Honkers as the C-squad lost 45-39 and the junior varsity also lost 52-42 to the Aggies.

MLS 48, Honkers 41

The Honkers hosted MLS Mon-day evening and lost to the Mav-ericks 48-41 in a non-conference game. The Honkers got off to a good start and led 11-8 at the fi rst quarter stop, but the Mavericks came back to tie the score at 24-24 at halftime. The third quarter was all MLS as they outscored the Honkers 13-3 to take a 37-27 lead. Kenmare cut the margin to 4-points in the fi nal period but MLS prevailed for the win.

Kate Zimmer scored 16 to lead the Honkers, Ashley Bauer added 14, Sierra Skar 6, Megan Zimmer 3 and Marissa Jensen 2.

MLS was led by Kylie Aber-nathy with 17, Leah Feland 10, Allison Undlin and Janie Savelk-oul 8 each.

In the preliminary game, Ken-mare’s C-Squad team defeated Bottineau 45-26. The young Honk-ers led 13-4, 23-10 and 39-16 at the quarter stops.

Kenmare will host Bottineau tomorrow evening, Dec. 20th, for the fi nal game before the holiday break,
