FROM THE PASTOR
"THE KING OF LOVE MY SHEPHERD IS, WHOSE GOODNESS FAILS ME NEVER; I LACK NOTHING IF I AM HIS, AND HE IS MINE FOR EVER..."
An Easter Sourcebook: The Fifty Days, p. 74
Today is GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY! A shepherd watches over his flock, and knows them so well, that he can determine when there is a problem, no matter what the problem is. The shepherd not only leads them as they travel along the road, but they recognize his voice so that they are comfortable with him. If a stranger were to try to lead the sheep, they would not follow because they don't recognize his voice.
The Gospel reminds us that Jesus is the Good Shepherd, the one who cares for all of us so much that he gave his life for us. Jesus not only leads us but he also shows us how to care for others. We are always invited to listen to his message and follow the example he shows. Jesus always invites us to "come, and see "; "come, and listen" and “come and experience the love of God made real for us" by his presence in our midst.
As we continue our Easter experience, sometimes it is easier to give in to doubt than it is to be reassured of his presence in our lives. It's not that we don't believe in the resurrection as much as it is trying to deal with the difficult situations in our lives and in our world. As much as we try to live in the hope that comes from being God's children, and to bask in the new life of the resurrection, we look around at what is happening in the world and wonder if it is all worth it. As Jesus is the sign of the Father for us, we are the sign of Jesus for one another and for all we meet. In addition, we offer the world, as small or as large as our world might be, an example of this new life of the Lord. As we have been transformed by the resurrection, we are called to radiate this experience in all we are and do.
Jesus may be the shepherd and as much as he invites us to follow him, he also invites us to lead one another along the way of salvation. Together we are sent to help others experience the wonder that Jesus is for us through who we are as God's people, and in all that we say and do. Our message has to be one that is filled with hope, new life and the opportunity to continue to reflect more deeply on the impact and meaning of the resurrection in our lives.
We are about half way through the Easter Season, this time of Mystagogia. It is always good for us to consider how the resurrection has affected us as individuals, as families and as a parish so that we can truly be a people transformed.
HAPPY EASTER SEASON!!! HAPPY MYSTAGOGIA!!!

Mrs. Nancy Caputo, Director
Yesterday our Communicants gathered in the school for their Eucharist Retreat. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make this day so special for our students. Today concludes the last day of classes for students in Kindergarten through 7th grades. Although religious classes have ended, our journey and faith unite us as we look forward to sharing in the Eucharist with you throughout the summer months. A great big “THANK YOU!” to all of the Catechists and class aides for your unfailing commitment to our children. Without this dedicated team of volunteers we could not offer this strong faith program to our parish families. Information regarding the Communion Masses and rehearsals was emailed to all the families. Please contact the religious education office if you are unsure of your child’s rehearsal or mass times. If you are interested in becoming a Catechist, Class aide, hallway or office helper, please call the Religious Education Office. Mrs. Caroline Ponterio, Principal
2nd Annual Family STEM Night By: Mrs. Stacy West
Saint James the Apostle students in Kindergarten
through Grade 5, along with their families and
teachers, celebrated the second annual Family
STEM Night on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
The theme for the evening was Architecture and
Engineering. The activities commenced with our
Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Hiel, reading Iggy Peck
Architect, written by Andrea Beaty. Iggy Peck is a
little boy who loves to build things using all kinds
of materials including baby diapers, peaches,
apples, modeling clay, pancakes and even coconut
pie. Iggy’s passion for architecture inspired Saint
James’ teachers to create several stations in the
gymnasium for students and family members to
visit. They were instructed to use their creativity,
talents, science and math skills to complete tasks
such as building a bridge, crafting a three-
dimensional art project, designing a set of blue-
prints, and challenging another family to build the
tallest cup tower.
The evening was well-attended and many laughs
were shared among teachers and Saint James the
Apostle school families. Our goal was to plan an
evening away from the rigor of work and stress in
our daily lives, where teachers and students
expose Saint James families to STEM activities
similar to those the students complete in their
classrooms. We succeeded in bringing families
together for collaboration, critical thinking,
creativity and, of course, a whole lot of fun!
Each family received a thank you note and a copy
of Scholastic’s Engineering Up Close: Engineers
Build Models to encourage our families to contin-
ue building.
A big thank you to our wonderful and dedicated
teachers for organizing, moderating, and
attending this event.

PASTORAL
COUNCIL NEWS
What do we do? The Pastoral Council is a consultative and advisory body and an important means by which the pastor will hear the voice of the parish. Together they discern the pastoral needs of the parish and ways in which those needs can be addressed. Members of the council represent the entire parish community. Through prayer and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit they assist with the overall mission plan for the parish in order to make Christ evermore present to the parishioners and to the wider community. Council activities and announcements will be posted in the bulletin.
Who are we? Names and pictures of all the current members of the council are posted in the glass case in the gathering space.
How can you reach us? Get to know your parish council members by joining them for coffee once a month after all the weekend masses. This is the perfect time to share your thoughts about our parish. Your concerns and questions will be discussed at the next council meeting. Everything is confidential!
