Home Learning Guidelines: Use the grid below to help structure your child’s home learning. We would encourage children to complete at least 2 activities from each column and record their learning experience in their challenge book. This could be done in a variety of ways. For example, writing a few sentences about what they learnt, drawing a picture, sticking in a photograph, completing a thought bubble etc. To support your child at home with reading we ask that your child reads at least 4 times a week. Remember there are lots of resources to support reading on our website. There is no expectation that your child completes the home learning challenges if they are unwell or if circumstances at home are such that the completion of the tasks cause unnecessary stress and anxiety to the household.

We are all part of God's vine and are rooted in His rich soil. We are nurtured and supported so that we may grow and spread out into the world to love and to serve.

Home Learning Guidelines:

Use the grid below to help structure your child’s home learning.

Go to this website and look at the food the Victorians used to eat Victorian FoodDiscuss with a household member, what the differences were between then and now. Do they remember any of it? Do your grandparents remember not having supermarkets?

Do some research on your favourite fruit or vegetable and create a fact file on it.You could look up some information on: Which country it comes

it. Does it have seeds? If it

does, are the seeds inside or outside of the fruit.

Draw a picture of your fruit and colour it in.

Watch this BBC Bitesize video on French words for different foodshttps://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zn7vrqtTry and learn 3 of them and look them up in an English/French dictionary either in a book or online. Spell the word in French in your home learning journals with a picture of the food or drink.See if anyone in your household recognises the vegetable when you say it in French!

Foods have many chemicals in them that create a reaction when they mix. Try the experiment below to see what happens when you mix food colouring, bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar.Be careful when mixing the potion and check with an adult before you mix them. You could experiment with different amounts of bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to see if you get a different outcome.

Does the amount of food colouring change what happens?

Food triangles are important for showing you what foods you should eat. The bottom layer is carbohydrates for energy, the next is fruit and vegetables, then protein and the smallest foods you should eat are the fatty or sugary foods. See if you can make a food triangle of what you eat and put it in the correct layer. Make it colourful like the one above.

Rewrite this passage using capital letters, commas and full stops:

healthy eating is vital for a healthy body many people eat too much unhealthy food like readymade meals sweets and chocolate instead people should eat more fruit and vegetables fruit is an ideal snack because it tastes sweet it is easy to take with you and it is good for your body

Design a colourful menu for one member of your household. You should include lots of adjectives and descriptive language to describe your dishes, so they sound irresistible. Try giving it to the person you picked and see whether they would eat any of it.

Starters/snacks:E.g. Finely cut vegetable sticks with a tangy salsa sauce.MainsE.g. Spaghetti Bolognese – an Italian speciality with succulent tomatoes and continental vegetables, served on a nest of fresh homemade spaghetti.Deserts:Homemade ice cream sundae with creamy chocolate sauce and a sprinkling of nuts.

Onomatopoeias are words that sound like what it means e.g crunch, bang, crackle. See this BBC Bitesize video https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z4mmn39/articles/z8t3g82Have a look at the poem below. It describes the sounds of different foods.

See if you can create your own poem with onomatopoeias.

Fractions are part of a whole number and have a top number (numerator) and a bottom number (denominator). To explain a fraction we could look at a pizza. If a pizza was divided into 4 pieces the 4 would be the denominator and go on

the bottom. If we only wanted to eat 3 pieces, this is the numerator and it would go on the top of the fraction.Have a go at using this interactive tool before attempting the questions below Pizza Fractions

Sunflower seeds are popular in salads and other food dishes. See if you can grow your own sunflower. How to grow1. Sunflowers can be sown

straight in to the ground where they are going to flower. Remove weeds.

2. Rake the soil and create a hole 12mm deep.

3. Place the seed in carefully and cover them up with soil.

4. Don’t forget to water the seed.

5. Be careful, as slugs and snails like to eat the new shoots. You may like to protect the seedlings by cutting the top off a plastic bottle and placing it over your seedlings.

6. As your sunflower grows you may need to support the stem, using a cane.

7. Watch your sunflower grow.
