Rules:

1. 4-H Primary members may enter exhibits in their project areas. All Primary members will receive comments on their work

and a primary ribbon. Points will be assigned accordingly. 4-H members are not eligible for Blue, Red or White placing.

2. Exhibitors may enter 2 items per class except where noted.

3. Items made in a school project may not be entered as a 4-H project.

4. Members remain in the same age group throughout the 4-H year, which is October 1 to September 30.

4. You may use any type of clothing.

5. Recycle the clothing for another use… a centerpiece, a different piece of clothing, or anything that comes to the

imagination!

1. Anyone enrolled in Clothing, Needlecraft or Adventures in Family Living may enter one outfit in the Fashion Revue.

Garment must also be entered as an exhibit.

2. Contestants will be judged Saturday during Fair at 9:00 AM in the 4-H Building, on fit of the garment, appearance and

modeling. Commentary sheets and fashion revue data sheet must be completed before judging.

3. Fashion Revue will be held Saturday during the fair at 11:00 AM.

Food activities are designed to give members: Experience in planning, preparing, and serving a food/meal that is attractive and good

tasting.

Rules:

1. You must be enrolled in a 4-H foods and nutrition project in order to participate in a food activity.

2. Call the Superintendent to schedule the time for your food activity at the fair. (This gives us time to get judges.)

3. Complete C1099E, 4-H Food Activity Worksheet, for each food activity you participate in.

4. Prepare two copies of the recipe(s) you are using: one copy for the judge and one for yourself. The recipe(s) should contain

the following information; as applicable:

A. The ingredients listed in the order used.

B. Each step given in the order of preparation.

C. The oven temperature.

D. The size of the cooking container.

E. The number of servings.

5. Practice preparing the recipe or meal until it can be done easily and a good result is achieved. A minimum of three times

prior to the activity is recommended

6. Be prepared to answer questions regarding nutrition, meal planning, and other information as required in the activity in

which you are participating.

7. Make a checklist of all the items needed for the activity. Remember, alcoholic beverages are not to be used. Recheck the

list as you pack your box of materials to take. Don’t forget hot pads and clean up items, as well as containers for leftovers.

8. Make a timetable of when to do what to have every required task completed in the allotted time.

9. Plan to do all measuring in the contest kitchens. No pre- measurement of ingredients is allowed. Proper methods of

measuring are to be demonstrated. Oranges and apples or any other similar foods should not be peeled in advance.

10. Plan to wear appropriate clothing for cooking (short sleeves or snug fitting long sleeves, long pants [jeans are ok], no bare

skin showing at waist, no open sandal type shoes).

11. Bring all ingredients needed to prepare your product/ meal. You are encouraged to utilize food from approved food sources.

Home canned foods are not to be used in any of the food activities. Safe food handling and transporting procedures must be

followed. Use a small cooler for perishable items.

12. Bring table linens, apron, dishtowels, and pot holders. At the State 4-H Fair competition, you will be using the dishes,

utensils, and equipment supplied in the kitchen. You may bring any equipment or utensils that may or may not be available,

such as a food processor, mixer with dough hooks, or special dishes such as chines teacups or dessert dishes.

Rules:


2. Activity chosen should depend on the skill level and ability of the exhibitor.

3. The time limit for Junior 4-H members is 1 hour, Intermediate and Senior members are limited to a maximum of 3 hours.

4. Select a tested recipe of a favorite food from a reliable cookbook. Consider a main dish, vegetable, salad, bread, dessert,

sandwich, snack, or beverage.

5. Practice preparing the recipe until it can be done easily and a good result is achieved.

6. Using the My Plate guidelines, plan a balanced menu for two people that includes a favorite food, Family Celebrations may

be a theme.

7. Create a pleasant table setting for two using a table cover or mats, centerpiece, dishes, glassware, eating utensils, and

serving dishes.

8. An 8 ½ by 11 inch menu that includes your favorite food and a poster of the recipe large enough for the audience to see are

required parts of this activity.

9. Participants must bring all the food and equipment needed to prepare the snack and do the cleanup. A range, microwave,

and refrigerator will be available for use.

10. Either during the activity or in an interview afterwards, participants should be able to tell the judge when the food should be

served.

11. Participants will explain what he/she is doing, and why, as well as what ingredients are in the favorite food. Participants

should also have knowledge of the food groups used and nutritional value of the food being served.

4. The simple meals should demonstrate food and kitchen safety, appropriate preparation skills, and knowledge appropriate

for the age and experience of the youth.

5. Time limit for the Quick to Fix Activity is 1-2 hours, including clean up and the judge’s review.

6. The participant must bring all the food and equipment needed to prepare the meal and clean up. A range, microwave, and

refrigerator will be available for use.

7. The participant must provide the judge a written menu of the simple meal and identify the food groups represented in the

meal.

8. Judges may ask the participants questions during the contest or in an interview afterwards.

4. Paper and plastic may be used where appropriate to carry out some themes.

5. Evaluation will be based on C1076, 4-H Table Setting Activity scorecard.

Rules:


2. Participants will make lunch from beginning to end during the activity. Lunch preparations should demonstrate food and

kitchen safety, appropriate preparation skills, and knowledge appropriate for the age and experience of the youth.

3. Consideration of how/where the lunch will be stored prior to eating, where it will be eaten, and good safety practices related

to storage is of the greatest importance.

4. Time limit for Lunch on the Go Activity is 20 minutes, with 10 minutes for clean-up. A short interview with the judge will

follow.

5. The participant must bring all the food and equipment needed to prepare the lunch and complete clean up.

6. Lunches may contain some commercial foods or foods prepared prior to the activity. Foods may be cookies, puddings,

cupcakes, etc.

7. Items such as sandwiches, tortilla wraps, bagel sandwiches, fruit salads, etc. should be made in the site.

8. Include beverages in the lunch.

9. Participants need to know what food groups are represented in their lunch. Strive to have all groups represented for

balanced nutrition,

10. The prepared lunch will be the responsibility of the exhibitor at the end of the activity.

1. 4-H members must be enrolled in project, unit or phase in which they are exhibiting. Exhibit must be a current year 4-H

2. Digital or film prints accepted, except where specified.

3. Entries must be firmly attached to poster board, matting, or suitable substitute with a backing.

4. Margins should not exceed 2 ½ inches.

5. Use dry-mount tissue, photo glue, photo stickers or other suitable substitute to attach.

6. Small, flat hangers that are properly and securely attached to extend above edge of exhibit are required. Attach with hot

glue, if possible.

7. Framed entries and non-mounted entries will not be accepted.

8. A 4-H photo label (WSU C0890) must be attached as indicated on label. These are available from the Extension Office.

11. All entries may be digitally enhanced through the adjustment of color levels, brightness and contrast, cropping, and other

otherwise combined into one image.

points pushed into a small branch, pushed into a block of foam, etc.) Loose flies will not be accepted. The mounting

medium will not be evaluated for judging.

2. Lure making: Up to 3 fishing lures, exhibited together, assembled by the exhibitor. Lures must be presented in the same

manner as flies in Class F1.

3. Fishing Journal: A log of fishing trips. Each entry should contain a location, environmental conditions (weather data, water

temperature, etc.), and how many fish were caught. Pictures may be included.

Entomology Division

Rules:

1. Open to members enrolled in Entomology, Garden Home Grounds, Natural Resources, Dairy and Livestock projects.

2. All insect exhibits must be labeled to give the order and common name of insects in the collection and scientific name to as

many as possible.

3. All work, including labeling, should be that of the member. Exhibits previously exhibited at the fair are ineligible unless

collections are materially enlarged, changed or improved.

4. If live insects (such as honey bees) are part of the exhibit, they must be secured to protect public safety; the exhibitor

1. Demonstrators may sign up on Monday of fair week (entry day), and must have participated in an area Demonstration Day to

be eligible.

2. A maximum of 20 minutes is allowed for each presentation. This includes setup, presentation, questions, interview with

judge and equipment removal.

3. Participant must report to clerk at least 15 minutes prior to stage time to make arrangements for equipment and check in.

4. Livestock and horse live demonstrations will be scheduled in animal areas by the Superintendent of the division in

cooperation with the animal Superintendent and will all be scheduled on the same day.

5. Exhibitors may enter only one of the class numbers below.

6. County Representatives to State 4-H Fair are selected from blue ribbon senior and intermediate participants at county fair.

7. Schedule changes must be cleared with building staff no less than one hour prior to prescheduled presentation time.
