D IS TANCE ME A SUR ING DE V ICES AND CELL PH ONESDuring the play of all SCGA competitions, a player may obtain distance information by use of a distance-measuring device. If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g. elevation changes, wind speed, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3. A multi-functional device, such as a smartphone or PDA, may be used as a distance-measuring device, but it must not be used to gauge or measure other conditions where doing so would be a breach of Rule 14-3. Any questions about such devices should be resolved before the start of the stipulated round. Otherwise, cell phone use is discouraged during the stipulated round.

PACE OF PLAY POLICYThe SCGA checkpoint pace of play policy will be in effect. The policy leaves the responsibility for maintaining the pace of play where it belongs – with you, the player. If you are the first group in the field, play efficient golf. If you are in a following group, keep up with the group in front of you and you will not have a pace of play issue. If you have any questions, please contact the SCGA at (818) 980-3630 or talk to a SCGA official prior to your round.

S T ROK E PL AYThe Tournament Committee at each competition will determine the maximum allowable time each group is permitted to play the stipulated round. This time will be posted on each player’s scorecard and each player is expected to maintain a pace faster than the maximum allowable time. The stipulated round is complete when the last player in the group completes play of the final hole and the flagstick is replaced.

LE AD GROUP(S): The lead group(s) must finish their stipulated round within the maximum allowable time established by the committee. If they finish over the maximum allowable time, each player will be assessed a penalty of two strokes to their score for the final hole.

• EXCEPTION: If the lead group is held up by play that was sent out before them or that began on the opposite tee, they will be exempt from penalty if they finish over their maximum allowable time but within 13 minutes of the group in front of them.

FOLLOWING GROUPS: Any subsequent group must finish their stipulated round within the maximum allowable time established by the committee. If they finish over the maximum allowable time, they must finish within 13 minutes of the group in front of them. If they finish over the maximum allowable time and more than 13 minutes behind the group in front of them, each player will be assessed a penalty of two strokes to their score for the final hole.

Page 9: 3RD SCGA WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP SCGA WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP JULY ... Players may make arrangements for practice rounds at their own expense after July 1st by calling

9

E XEMP T IONS FROM PENALT Y:If a group does not finish within their maximum allowable time due to circumstances beyond their control (such as a ruling or a ball search on the final hole, or any other circumstances which the Committee deems to be exceptional) but was otherwise in position during the play of the final four holes, the Committee may be justified in waiving the penalty. Being in position means to be immediately behind the group in front of you.

Any group that has a slow, deliberate or non-responsive player(s) may report the player(s) to SCGA Staff or a SCGA Rules Official at any time during the stipulated round, and the player(s) will be monitored. If SCGA Staff or a SCGA Rules Official identifies that a player(s) in the group is the cause of the group failing to maintain pace of play and determines other players are playing within the requirements of this policy, those meeting the requirements of this policy may be absolved from penalty while the others may not.

THE SCGA COMMIT TEE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REVIEW ALL PENALT Y SITUATIONS.

HERE ARE SOME PACE OF PL AY RECOMMENDATIONS THAT WE EXPEC T ALL PARTICIPANTS TO FOLLOW:

• Play ready golf throughout the entire round.

• Walk fast.

• The first person to complete each hole should immediately go to the next tee and be the first person to tee off. The second person to finish should replace the flagstick.

• Know where your group is in relation to the group in front of you – don’t worry about the group behind you.

• Get your yardage before it is your turn to play. Be ready to play before it is your turn.

• If someone isn’t ready to play, another should go before them.

• Walk ahead when another player has to wait.

• When any shot heads toward rough, a water hazard or trees all players should watch closely as to where the ball lands.

• Read your putt before it is your turn to play.

• Recognize when someone will need the flagstick tended or your ball marked.

• Place golf bag or golf cart off the putting green near the next teeing ground.

• If your ball might be lost outside a water hazard or out of bounds, play a Provisional Ball (Rule 27-2).

• Rule 3-3 (Doubt as to How to Proceed): this procedure is on the back of your scorecard, don’t hesitate to use it.

N O. 2 – SAN MIGUEL: PAR 5, 486 - 505 YAR DSDogleg left. Long tee shot can be hit to center across the barranca. Shorter tee shots can be hit to right side across the barranca or to the left side short of it. Desirable approach position is to right of center. Large green guarded by bunkers.

N O. 3 – SAN JUAN C APIS T R AN O: PAR 4, 381 YAR DS Desirable tee shot position is center or right-center depending on hole location. Tree line on left side catches a hooked or pulled tee shot. N O. 4 – SAN LUIS R E Y: PAR 5, 493 - 516 YAR DSLarge oak 100 yards in front of tee. Dense tree line on left side of fairway. From center position there is an open second shot. On the right side there is a continuous tree line to green from 135 yards. Small opening to large green surrounded by five bunkers.

N O. 5 – SAN TA INE Z: PAR 3, 156 - 181 YAR DSAccuracy on the tee shot is required. Out of bounds all the way on left side. Shallow fairway bunker stops a short shot. Bunkers on right and left sides of the relatively flat green.

N O. 6 – SAN R AFAEL: PAR 4, 356 YAR DSA straight tee shot is required. Out of bounds all the way on the left side with heavy rough and trees on the right. Approach to green is deceptive because you must carry 15-yard-long swale in front of green. Bunkers on left and right sides of green.

N O. 8 – SAN J OSE: PAR 4, 388 YAR DSPrevailing breeze against you. Out of bounds on left all the way. Trees on right side. Fairway bunker on left with four bunkers guarding the large green. Green slopes away from fairway and falls to the right.

N O. 10 – D OLOR ES: PAR 4, 413 YAR DSWide fairway with trees on right and left sides. Some 225 yards from tee the fairway drops away to form a small valley leading up to the green. N O. 11 – SAN TA BAR BAR A: PAR 3, 125 - 152 YAR DSShort shot to a dangerously guarded green. Bunkers in front, sides and back of long green running from right to left. This is a tricky green to putt, regardless of hole location.

N O. 12 – SAN JUAN BAU T IS TA: PAR 4, 355 YAR DS Open shot from tee. The desirable tee shot position is right center. Long, narrow green with four bunkers two on the right and two on the left.

N O. 13 – L A PUR ISIMA CONCEP-CION: PAR 5, 463 - 539 YAR DSTight fairway guarded both left and right by trees with heavy rough on left side.
