MATERIALS AND METHODS
The present study was carried out in the research fied and !reen house of the Depart"ent
of #ant $reedin! and %enetics& 'ni(ersity of A!ricuture )aisaa*ad+ Thirty "ai,e
in*red ines were used in the two e-peri"ents+ The in*red ines used in the e-peri"ents
were ta.en fro" the Mai,e Research %roup& Depart"ent of #ant $reedin! and %enetics&
'ni(ersity of A!ricuture )aisaa*ad+ The e-peri"ent I was conducted in the !asshouse
and e-peri"ent II was carried out in the fied durin! /harif 0122+ )aisaa*ad is situated
32N and 42E+ The a(era!e "onthy "a-i"u" and "ini"u" te"perature and tota
"onthy rain fa of croppin! season is !i(en in fi!ure 2 and fi!ure 0 respecti(ey+

This e-peri"ent was conducted in the !reen house of the Depart"ent of #ant $reedin!
and %enetics& 'ni(ersity of A!ricuture )aisaa*ad+ The e-peri"ent is aid out in
co"petey rando"i,ed desi!n with four repications+ The factors are nor"a irri!ation
and water stress+ The in*red ines were sown in poythene *a!s fied with sand+ There

were 8 pants in each entry+ In pre7irri!ated sand the seeds were sown one inch deep with
hand+ Two nor"a repications were irri!ated first at si-th day of sowin! then twefths
day of sowin! and ei!hteenth day of sowin! whie other two drou!ht repications were
irri!ated at twefth day of sowin!+
After twenty four days of sowin! seedin!s were uprooted and washed+ It was
preceeded *y hea(y irri!ation to faciitate the process of uprootin! to "ini"i,e root
da"a!e+ After this pants were ta.en to a*oratory for the purpose of data coection+

repication+ Seeds were sown on rid!es *y di**er .eepin! pant to pant 08c" distance
and row to row distance 48 c"+ A the a!rono"ic practices were .ept unifor" e-cept
irri!ation in a repications+
Three irri!ations were !i(en to drou!ht *oc.& whereas se(en irri!ations were !i(en to
the nor"a *oc.+ )i(e !uarded pants were seected rando"y per entry per repication
and data were recorded on the foowin! traits+
