  • Daytona State College is offering a FREE 8-day summer camps, June 10-13 and June 17-20. This camp is only for permanent and full-time Volusia or Flagler County residents who will be attending a Volusia

    or Flagler County high school entering grades 9 to 12 in the fall 2019.

    3D Modeling• Use 3D Modeling software to design a 3D model car. • Print your 3D model car that you can take home.

    Architecture (Limited to 18 students)• Experience firsthand what it is like to work on a design project in a studio. • Learn to build a little subdivision.• Draw a set of plans and build a house.

    Computer Hardware (Limited to 15 students)• Be a first-level IT technician.• Learn to solve common computer bugs.• Learn to build your own computer and set it up with an operating system. • Run some sample programs.

    Construction• Get engaged in both individual and team activities.• Learn proper use of both hand and shop tools.• Experiment with designing, building and sanding. • Create a take home item.• Build Build Build.

    Cosmetology• Experience life in a salon/spa atmosphere.• Learn about personal grooming, makeup, skin care and hairstyling.• Practice braiding techniques using a mannequin.• Perform basic nail care for manicures and pedicures.• Create the perfect eyebrows; achieve the right look for your face shape. • Prepare to be pampered!

    Culinary• Bake with a pastry chef.• Learn how to make pastries from scratch.• Enjoy Cookie Day, Cupcake Designs Day, Pastry Day and Cake Decorating Day.• As a health and safety requirement; no shorts, skirts, open-toed shoes or flip flops will be

    permitted. Additionally, long hair must be tied back. There are no exceptions and students will not be permitted to participate if these rules are not adhered to. Please be advised foods prepared may contain common allergens such as but not limited to nuts, wheat flour, and dairy.

  • HVAC• Design and fabricate supply air ductwork.• Read and calculate airflow through supply air ductwork.• Design and fabricate a basic home layout with focus on the heat loss and heat gain

    through the envelope of the structure.

    Machining• Experience many skillsets involved in machining.• Learn about manufacturing.• Learn how to operate machinery in a hands-on environment.• Create a unique item out of aluminum.

    Music Production• Participate in a live studio recording of one of the Music Production Technology’s

    Contemporary Ensembles.• Receive an introduction to the music recording process by one of the Music

    Production Faculty.

    Photography (Week 2 Only)• Create a working box camera.• Develop B&W prints in a darkroom.• Experiment with motion blurs and stop-action.• Learn the basics of photo editing and manipulation. • Take home a CD of your work.• Students are encouraged to bring their own digital cameras, but cameras can be

    checked out upon request.

    Public Safety• Go behind the scenes in the day of a police officer, firefighter and EMT, and become

    CPR-certified.• No open-toed shoes; wear long pants for leg protection; expect to get wet on fire days,

    we recommend that you bring a towel.

    Science• Demonstrate how colorful reactions give us a peek inside the world of CHEMISTRY.• Get to know the real-life applications of BIOLOGY by finding out what it’s like working

    inside a forensic lab and extracting your own DNA.• Defy gravity, play with static and participate in mind-boggling PHYSICS demonstrations.• Discover the treasures of the underwater world with MARINE SCIENCE.• No open-toed shoes; wear long pants for leg protection and anything you do not mind

    getting dirty; do not wear baggy clothes, hair must be tied back away from face.
