    PROGRAM CHAIR: Connie Tromble Eyster, Esq.Connie Tromble Eyster, Esq., has been with Hutchinson Black

    and Cook since 2001. Her practice focuses on estate planning,

    probate and trust administration, as well as the formation of non-

    profit entities. She has represented a wide variety of individuals

    with their gifting, charitable contributions, marital agreements,

    wills, trusts, and other estate planning concerns. She also assists families with the

    administration of guardianships, conservatorships, and decedent's estates. Connie

    has taught the Wills and Trusts course at the University of Colorado School of Law as

    an adjunct professor and has spoken on estate planning topics throughout Colorado.

    KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Louis S. Harrison, Esq.Louis S. Harrison, Esq., is with Harrison & Held, LLP, andemphasizes the estate-planning aspects of partnerships and

    privately owned businesses, charitable dispositions, and gifting

    strategies. Lou uses his extensive experience to formulate estate

    plans that maximize and protect wealth, draft complex trusts and

    wills that minimize federal estate taxes, litigate contested estates, probate and

    administer estates, advise closely held businesses, and counsel clients regarding

    business, individual, fiduciary and post-mortem tax planning. A frequent speaker and

    writer on tax and estate planning, Lou has spoken before numerous groupsnationwide. Lou has authored more than 100 published articles on a broad range of

    tax and estate-planning subjects in legal, accounting, tax and estate journals and

    periodicals, and is co-author of the books, "Sorting Out Life's Complexities: What You

    Really Need to Know About Taxes, Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorneys and Health Care

    Decisions" and "Illinois Estate Planning Forms and Commentary." Lou is the Illinois

    State Chair of the American College of Trusts and Estate Counsel and has been an

    adjunct professor at Northwestern University School of Law, DePaul University

    College of Law and Chicago-Kent College of Law.

    FACULTY:Nancy R. Crow, Esq., is a shareholder with Pendleton, Friedberg, Wilson &

    Hennessey, P.C., where she practices tax planning, estate planning, estate and trust

    administration and employee benefits law, helping people protect and preserve their

    visions and values. Ms. Crow is a frequent lecturer and writer on topics related to

    areas of practice. She wrote and has updated chapters on estate planning, esta

    administration, will drafting and execution, and trusts for Colorado Methods

    Practice, Thomson West Publishing. Ms. Crow has served on countless committees

    both the Taxation and Trust and Estate Sections of the Colorado Bar Association, a

    has served as chair of the Taxation Section. She is a member of the American

    Association, the Colorado Women's Bar Association, the Women's Estate Plann

    Council, the Denver Tax Association and the State Bar of California. Ms. Crow is

    Colorado SuperLawyer, a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Coun

    and is listed in Best Lawyers in America.

    Darla L. Daniel, JD, is a Vice President and Trust Officer at Colorado State Bank a

    Trust, N.A. She has been working in the trust and estate field in various capacities sin

    1988. Prior to joining the bank, she practiced law for 7 years with the firm of Zism

    Ingraham and Daniel, PC, where she focused on estate planning, tax planning, a

    estate administration. In addition to her work as a lawyer and trust officer, she tau

    Estate Planning for several years as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Colora

    School of Law (2009-2011), authored two chapters in the Colorado Estate Plann

    Handbook, has been a frequent presenter of continuing legal education programs

    the Trust and Estate section of the Colorado Bar Association, recently served

    President of the Womens Estate Planning Council, and serves as a member of tPlanned Giving Committee for the Childrens Hospital Foundation.

    John DeBruyn, Esq., of DeBruyn Law Offices, is a transactional lawyer who

    practice emphasizes business, tax and estate planning. He is a former trial attorn

    with the Tax Division of the US Department of Justice and continues to handle t

    controversies. John is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel and of t

    Gregory T. Densen, Esq.,joined Sherman & Howard in 1998, and is a Member in

    herman & Howards Estate Planning and Administration Group. Greg has taught

    umerous courses for the Colorado Society of CPAs and presented at a variety of

    state planning seminars, including the 2010 Estate Planning Retreat. Recently,

    Greg has led efforts to bring a decanting statute to Colorado, co-authoring

    Decanting in Colorado: Nothing to Wine About, CBA Trust and Estate Member

    Newsletter, June 15, 2009, and chairing the Decanting Subcommittee of the CBA

    rusts and Estates Statutory Revisions Committee. At the 2012 Retreat, Greg looks

    orward to celebrating his completion of a two-year stint as the co-chair and chair

    of the CBA Trusts and Estates Statutory Revisions Committee.

    Keith D. Lapuyade, Esq., is a partner with Godfrey & Lapuyade, PC, and has more

    han 25 years of trial experience in both state and federal court. He frequently serves

    s arbitrator and mediator. As an arbitrator, he is sought by parties to resolve disputes

    hat conventional arbitrators find impossible to resolve due to the specialized

    elationships between the parties or complexity of insurance issues. Mr. Lapuyade

    brings his unique knowledge of insurance law and bad faith with his extensive

    medical understanding to be of particular value in medical malpractice litigation, and

    often brings this special skill set to bear in the personal representation of physicians

    nd attorneys for purposes of establishing their rights with respect to their insurance

    overage. Additional experience includes estate and fiduciary litigation, medical

    malpractice, product liability, bad faith, personal injury, premises liability and

    lternative dispute resolution.

    Charles E. (Chip) Mortimer, Esq., is Deputy Regulation Counsel with the Colorado

    upreme Court Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. He was licensed to practice law

    n Colorado in 1986, and spent fifteen years in private practice, focusing on family,

    ommercial and real estate litigation, before joining the Office of Attorney Regulation

    Counsel. He has served on the Thursday Night Bar Association Board of Directors, The

    irst Judicial District Board of Trustees and Governor Owens' Commission on Civil

    ustice Reform. Prior to coming to the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel, Chip

    haired the Colorado Lawyer's Fidelity Fund and served as a Trustee on the Colorado

    Daniel Rich, Executive Vice President and Trust Manager, brings over 31 years of trustnd investment administration experience to customers at Steele Street Bank & Trust.

    He offers a client-focused approach to all his banking relationships and lends expertise

    n all aspects of wealth management, as well as trust planning and administration.

    D. Scott Robinson, Esq., is senior counsel at Long Reimer Winegar Beppler, LLP, and

    erves as the firms managing attorney. He concentrates his practice in wealth transfer

    nd preservation planning, private trust companies, trusts and estates, estate and trust

    dministration and closely-held businesses. Mr. Robinson received a B.S. in

    TOPIC 1 - Planning for Retirement Accounts That OutliveTheir Owners

    Most clients hope that their IRAs and qualified retirement plans will provide

    them with a comfortable retirement income and perhaps a legacy for their

    beloved family, friends or charities. What happens when a retirement account

    owner or plan sponsor dies? What planning choices are available? What are

    their tax consequences, estate planning ramifications and potential penalties?

    In this seminar, we will explore how to coordinate IRA and retirement plan

    beneficiary designations with the account owner's estate plan, what perils

    and pitfalls to avoid during the estate planning process and post-mortem

    planning opportunities.

    TOPIC 2 - Practical Solutions to Elder Financial Abuseand Fiduciary Theft

    Financial abuse and fiduciary theft is on the rise. It comes in many different

    guises. Although the media typically cover some of the more heinous elder

    abuse cases each year, most abuses are committed by family members and

    relatively few are ever reported to law enforcement. When a client first meets

    with you to discuss suspected abuse, or you happen upon a situation that

    appears questionable, the options available will vary widely with the particular

    situation. This presentation will focus on practical solutions for practitioners

    and others to investigate and address possible elder abuse when those

    situations first appear.

    TOPIC 3 - Partnership Tax Basics

    Understanding the use of partnerships, LLCs, and S corporations should be a

    part of every estate planners box of tools. This session will provide anintroductory overview of the taxation of partnerships, LLCs and S corporations,

    differences between the taxation of those entities, and the use of those entities

    as part of a comprehensive estate plan. Other specific topics discussed include

    the ability of estates to qualify as S corporation shareholders, the type of trusts

    that can qualify as S corporation shareholders, the use of discounts relating to

    LLC and partnership equity interests, the tax consequences of making 754

    elections under the partnership tax rules, distinctions between general and

    limited partners and control issues, and valuation rules relating to partnership,

    LLC, and S corporation interests under IRC sections 2701 through 2704.
