INTERMODALITY THE “MONTREAL MODEL”The Port of Montreal’s success on global markets is anchored in a number of strategic advantages, including optimal management of the flow of goods through a system known in the North American industry as the “Montreal Model.”

TRAINSThe Port of Montreal’s rail network has close to 100 kilometres of track along the berths and directly on the terminals. It is directly connected to Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific (CP) railways, whose networks span Canada, west to east, and the United States, north to south. Container trains are assembled directly on the terminals and then brought by port locomotives to the interchange zone 2 where they connect with CN or CP locomotives. › Port rail network directly connected to Class 1 CN and CP rail networks

TRUCKSAll trucks serving the Port of Montreal go through a common entry portal featuring optical and video character recognition units to identify containers, and 27 checkpoints equipped with an automated registration system where a computer recognizes the truck driver’s fingerprint biometric and validates the transaction. › State-of-the-art common entry and exit portal for trucks

INFRASTRUCTURESPort of Montreal facilities cover 6.35 square kilometres on the island of Montreal and 4.67 square kilometres at Contrecœur, located 40 kilometres downstream from Montreal on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River.The Port of Montreal is a truly integrated intermodal hub. Ships, trains and trucks converge at this single location, minimizing cargo transit times. Import and export cargo volumes are balanced.

LIQUID BULK( Fuel, fuel oil, various hydrocarbons, asphalt and other petroleum products) › 13 berths with a total length of 1,972 metres › Berth depth ranging from 8.7 to 11 metres › Storage capacity: over 16 million barrels › Several berths aside from those reserved for liquid bulk are also equipped with pipelines for handling liquid bulk other than petroleum products, such as molasses and vegetable oil.

DRY BULK( Iron ore, road salt, fertilizers, raw sugar, gypsum and other dry bulk products) › 15 berths with covered and open storage › Total dock length: 2,671 metres › Berth depth ranging from 9.1 to 11.3 metres

GRAIN TERMINAL(Wheat, corn, barley and soybeans) › Shipping and receiving of grain products by vessel, rail and truck

› 3 berths with a total length of 640 metres › Berth depth of 8.4 metres inbound and 10.7 metres outbound

› 350 concrete silos with capacities ranging from 50 to 4,000 tonnes

› Storage capacity of 262,000 tonnes › Loading capacity of 5,500 tonnes per hour › Unloading capacity of 3,000 tonnes per hour
