We Welcome You to St. Charles Borromeo Parish

Thank you for joining us. We are glad you have chosen to worship at St. Charles this weekend. Are you interested in becoming a member of the parish? If you need more information or would like to register, please call Mary Eggleston at 663-3230 x107 or contact her by e-mail at [email protected].

No Parish Sharing recipient this past weekend due to the diocesan collection for the Churches in Central & Eastern Europe. This weekend’s Parish Sharing recipient is Water for South Sudan.

St. Charles Borromeo has a St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVDP) whose basic ministry is to help the poor obtain necessary furniture and household goods. Potential clients are interviewed to asses their needs and also to connect them to other community assets. People in Eastern Greece and Charlotte are eligible for assistance. We have had bulletin announcements in the recent past asking for item donations to this group. They also collaborate with the SDVP group from St. Frances Xavier Cabrini parish. Next weekend’s parish sharing will be donated to our group.

Father Ted’s Catechism for Seniors... by Rev. Edwin Metzger

From last time: Come to Mass, listen and share.

Q. Homeless people in the city of Rochester are on

my mind, and I am happy to hear that Deacon Dan

Callan and others are reaching out and practicing

Jesus' command 'to love your neighbor as

yourself'. God's love and justice is visible in our

community. I still wonder about how much God

really cares about human beings when I learn

about people who are killed by terrorism, violence

and the millions who are displaced and homeless.

What does the Catechism say about a good and

powerful God?

A. Quite a bit, so much so that I bet you'll moan and

groan when I tell you. I'm going to re-read (and

why don't you?) paragraphs 309 to 314 in the

Catechism. Remember, you can read these on

your computer as well as in your well-used paper

back edition. The section is called (GOD'S)

PROVIDENCE AND THE SCANDAL OF EVIL. In

paragraph 324, it could be summarized like this:

The fact that God permits physical and even moral

evil is a mystery that God illuminates by his Son

Jesus Christ who died and rose to vanquish evil.

Faith gives us the certainty that God would not

permit an evil if he did not cause a good to come

from that very evil, by ways that we shall know

fully only in eternal life.

Q. Do you call that an answer? Give me a break.

A. I will. Have a hot dog, hamburger and frozen

custard, find a shady spot, and pray about that for

15 minutes, or more if you doze off a bit. As you

pray, tell God how frustrated you are with violence

and homelessness, then give him equal time by

listening to what the Spirit, Son and Father say to

you. Jot down your prayer, and look at it as you

prepare for weekend Mass. After Mass, take

another break.

kiosks at the back of church! Our offerings

include many different CDs, books, and

pamphlets. The purpose of all the materials is

to help Catholics learn and live their faith and to pass it

on!

Matt Fradd is a gifted evangelist who speaks to over

50,000 teens and young adults every year. His talks are

both engaging and intellectually deep, keeping

audiences engaged throughout. Through this passionate

and entertaining story (God, Are You There?), Matt

relays how God’s existence can be grasped by reason

and how everyone must wrestle with this question.

SAVE THE DATE!!!!

Upcoming Men’s & Women’s Retreat at Notre Dame

2016 Retreat Theme: “Our American Catholic Heritage: Past, Present and Future:”

Women's Retreat: September 30-October 2

Now is the time to put the date on your calendar and

consider joining us for the Women’s retreat on

September 30- October 2. It is a special time to get

away from the tasks, the surroundings and trappings

of everyday life that keep us so busy, we forget to

carve out that time for growing in our faith and

spending quality time with Our Lord.

The suggested cost is $150* (single room), $120 ea.

(shared double room w/shower), and $200 (double

room/single occupancy).

To reserve a room or for more information call: Call

Mary Gardner at 227-0691 or

Donna LaDuca at 342-3234. Please leave a message

if no answer.

*Please Note: Notre Dame has a policy that retreatants can pay whatever they are able to pay for their retreats.

The inability to pay the suggested rates should never be seen as blocking someone from coming. This is a

Ministry and we want you to be here.

You can also look at the Notre Dame Retreat House web site (http://notredameretreat.org/) for pictures and

more information on this great facility. Rides to the retreat can easily be arranged.

Men's Retreat: September 23-25

Please join the men of St. Charles on our annual

retreat at Notre Dame Retreat House, Friday evening

through Sunday noon, September 23 through 25.

Now is a good time to mark your calendar and make

a reservation. The deadline for reservations is

September 18, as long as space is available.

The conferences at the retreat will center on how

Catholicism came to America; how Catholicism has

evolved, shaped and influenced us as a nation and

individually; and the importance of Catholicism to us

now and in the future.

If you would like to register or would just like more

information, with no obligation, please call Ed

Holden (621-8243) or send an email

([email protected]). Please leave a message if no

answer.

It is my pleasure to announce that Mary Toot will be the Christian Formation Administrator at St. Charles Borromeo parish upon Margaret Gray’s retirement. I am very grateful for the long-standing ministry of Margaret to the youth of our parish. Please join me in wishing Margaret the very best and good health upon her retirement later this month. Mary Toot will assume Margaret's responsibilities and will continue to coordinate Baptisms and the RCIA program at St. Charles Borromeo. This will be in conjunction with her responsibilities at Holy Cross Church.

Congratulations Mary! Best Wishes Margaret!

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is alive and well in your area. We are taking care of clients in the neighborhoods of St. Charles, St. John, Holy Cross, and Mother of Sorrows parishes. Furniture and household items including beds, dressers, tables, chairs, dishes, and flatware are given to those in need. If you know someone who is in need, please have them call 663-3230 X103 and we will arrange to assist them. We help all who are in need regardless of creed.

On Saturday, September 24, St. Vincent de Paul is sponsoring our First Annual 5K Run/Walk to raise money to continue serving those in need. It will be held at Basil Marella Park on English Road. ALL money raised will stay right here in our Greece/Charlotte area. We encourage everyone to think about participating either by joining us or by sponsoring someone. If you’d like to help us by timing runners, passing out water, registering runners, etc., please call Kathy at 865-6162 and we will connect you with a job! We always need volunteers. There are so many ways to help. To register as a Walker or Runner:

Go to www.svdpusa.net/walk/1580 in the URL address box. Click “Register.” For the “Walk Beneficiary” select Our Lady of Angels. (That’s our group!)

A registration fee of $10 will include a free T-shirt. A registration fee of $25 will also include a drawstring cinch back pack.

To sponsor a Walker or Runner: Go to www.fopwalk.org Select the ‘Donation’ tab, then ‘donate to walker.’ Select the walker by name and use the secure website to make your tax deductible donation. If

you don’t know anyone personally, you may donate to “Angel Walker.”

Like us on Facebook! ***Again, September 24th is our 5K race. Save the date!***
