y Understand multiplication as repeated addition. (2, 3, 4, 5 times table)

y Build up multiplication tables of 2, 3, 4 and 5.
y Multiply two 1- digit numbers.

(50 minutes)
Whole class activity (20 minutes)
1. Teacher pastes the picture cards on the
blackboard by following the sequence shown as
below.
For example,
2. While pasting the pictures, the pupils are asked to
examine the pattern formed when more and more
pictures are pasted up.
3. Then, the teacher will guide the pupils to discover
the pattern formed.
4. 2 or 3 examples of multiplication sentences are
listed out beside each row of pictures pasted on
the blackboard as below:

6. Few pupils are asked to paste the words cards or
multiplication cards on the blackboard beside the
correct pictures shown.
8. Standard written method will later on be
introduced and taught to the pupils.

Group activity (10 minutes)
1. Pupils carry out Arrange the Straws! game.
Class Practice (15 minutes)
1. Pupils will complete worksheet as class practice.
1. The teacher will give some simple quiz on the
blackboard and randomly pick few pupils
answering the questions.
2. Few pupils will be picked to give brief conclusion
on what they have learned during this lesson .
3. Homework is given based on the lesson taught.

Appendix 2: Arrange The Straw!
Materials: Multiplication flash cards (1 set), 40 cut straws ( 5 sets) , paper cup ( 30 cups)
Procedures:
1. The pupils are divided into 4 or 5 persons per group.
2. Each group is given 1 set of cut straws and 5 paper cups.
3. Teacher will show a multiplication flash card.
For example,
4. Then, pupils will work together as a group to arrange out the number patterns by
putting the cut straws into the paper cups.
For example,
5. After finish arranging the cut straws, all the group members hand up their hands to
show that they have done it.
6. The first group completes the arrangement for multiplication flash card and say out
the product of the multiplication flash card correctly will gain one point.
7. Step 3 to 5 will be repeated for 3 or 4 rounds for different multiplication flash cards.
8. The group which gains the highest mark at the end of the activity wins the game.

Reflection:
(a) Strength:
y The concrete manipulative such as picture cards, straws, cups helped the pupils to
foster their understanding on multiplication concept and learn the how to find the
product of a multiplication sentence.
y The little presents (folded stars) as compliment for the pupils good behaviours and
good work in the class motivated pupils learning for the lessons taught in the
classroom.
y Pupils attracted by the interesting group activity and gave full participation for the
group activity.
(b) Weakness:y Some pupils enable listened my instructions or teaching because of the heavy rain
outside the classroom.
y Got 1 or 2 pupils were shy and scare to participate in whole-class or group activity.
(c) Ways of Improvement
y Try to speak louder so that the pupils would not be distracted by the heavy rain
outside the classroom.
y Give encouragement and support for pupils who shy and scare in carrying the
activities in the class.
