Students should be able to:
1. Interpret the hardware specifications of a computer system.
2. Define the term software.
3. Distinguish between systems programs and application programs;
Content:
CPU type and speed; memory: capacity, type, word size, speed. Hard drive: capacity, speed; fire wire, expansion slots, ports.
Systems software: operating systems, translators, utilities: Application software: general purpose, special purpose, custom written. Customization, integrated software.
Procedure:
Lesson 1: Objective 1 Presentation and discussion using guided discovery; CPU & Memory
specifications. Notes with additional information.
Lesson 2: Objective 1 Presentation and discussion using guided discovery; Hardware specifications
along with fire wire, expansion slots and ports. Notes with additional information.
Lesson 3: Objectives 2, 3. Students will read from text, from which a discussion using guided discovery will
be used for clarification; Definition of software, Systems Software. Notes with additional information.
Lesson 4: Objective 3. Students will read from text, from which a discussion using guided discovery will
be used for clarification; Applications Software.
