Learning Goals / Competence

General Remarks - Professionalism The Corporate Systems Management course deals with the design, analysis and change of various systems in business practice. These can be corporate management systems such as internal control systems, incentive systems and compliance management systems, but also other systems. Important is the relation to the corporate structure on the one hand and to information technology on the other hand. Studied speeches get to know the importance of Corporate Management Systems in practice. The participants manage to analyse systems from practice and to design their own systems for special constellations (e.g. industries). You can question practical solutions theoretically in the area of conflict between business administration, psychology and law and weigh theoretical and practical arguments in order to make your own differentiated decision. Particular attention is paid to the comparison of compliance management systems in an international environment and the auditing of these systems by auditors and other consultants. In this way, students expand their knowledge base on the German system of corporate governance. Interdisciplinary Skills The course takes place at the interface of business administration, IT, psychology and law. Students can apply the theories as well as the tools of the trade of these disciplines to Corporate Systems Management and make differentiated judgements. Working in small groups, discussions and case studies increases communication and presentation skills. Argumentation style and logical thinking are promoted through the development of a well-founded seminar paper. The work with deepening scientific sources from different ranges increases the (scientific) problem-solving ability of the participants. Involvement in Civil Society Students can independently work on new topics, evaluate information, draw practical conclusions, develop new solutions and take into account social, ecological and economic aspects. In this way, the goals associated with civil society involvement, such as promoting the holistic education of students, are achieved.

Lecture Contents Basics of corporate governance, risk and compliance (GRC)

Concepts of corporate systems management Principal internal control and compliance functions Compliance management systems (CMS) Situational changes in internal control systems

Learning Goals / Competence

General Remarks Students learn to apply the intermediate quantitative methods from statistics and operations research, which means the application of statistical methods to problems in the broad financial management. A major goal of this course is to encourage students to develop enough confidence with the ideas and techniques of quantitative research to apply them appropriately in their own work. Professionalism Students will be able to competently select suitable methods (possibly in combination) for broadly problems to be encountered in financial management writ large. Methodological Skills The students can competently and confidently assess the formal application requirements (e.g. distribution assumptions) in terms of measurement, reliability and validity in univariate statistical inference as well as linear regression with two regressors. Social skills One can only learn statistics by doing statistics. Students are encouraged to engage in peer instruction activities, distinguishing the different roles that arise in the group.

Learning Goals / Competence

General Remarks This is an application lecture. Knowledge must be applied to be useful. Each semester, a professor will select an actual, current problematic at a firm, and organize teams to propose solutions to this problematic. Thus, students take on a consultant role and will organise projects, engage in problem-solving processes and provide answers to research questions and critically reflect on the results. Depending on the current research and firm project cooperation, students will have a chance to deal with real problematics like data harmonization in digitization of financial management or data granularity in the controlling competence centers in a local international firms. Professionalism At Practice I, the student will put into practice the central learning objectives of the program and to learn how to solve business problems within financial management area which might involve tools learned from different lectures and also might call upon a novel solution. The acquired professional competencies will result from experiencing holistically the full end-to-end process of business problem solutions: business problem definition, scope sizing, data acquisition for problem analysis, solutions proposals, and evaluation of solutions for implementation cost. The examination form of a project work with a graded project report is the most frequently used form for such forms of practical projects. Interdisciplinary Skills The students master the solution of complex business management problems, the technical discussion and problem solving in groups or as individuals. The students are able to communicate and present their professional (first) knowledge to a circle of experts. Here the skills of self management and self growth will be foregrounded. The ability to define the scope and depth of a problematic to an unstructured issued is a critical factor for success in firms.

General Remarks - Professionalism The Strategy & Value course deals with the basic principles of corporate strategy and value from the point of view of CFOs and CEOs. In recent years, companies have also increasingly created positions for Chief Strategy Officers (CSOs) and Chief Digital Officers (CDOs). Students recognize the primary schools of strategic thinking and can apply them to practical problems. They develop their own methods for analysing the value of strategies in the corporate context. Through knowledge of the strategic management process, students are able to assess the sustainability of strategies from both a performance and value perspective as well as to develop independent market-, resource- and value-oriented strategies. Case studies are of particular importance here. Students transfer their theoretical and practical knowledge to new contexts and can analyse strategies and business models as well as create their own business models. Interdisciplinary Skills Students work in small groups on company examples and thus strengthen their communication and teamwork skills. Strategic thinking sharpens the analytical facts and the defence of strategic basic positions makes it possible to analyse other business facts cleanly and to formulate conclusions. Involvement in Civil Society Students can independently work on new topics, evaluate information, draw practical conclusions, develop new solutions and take into account social, ecological and economic aspects. In this way, the goals associated with civil society involvement, such as promoting the holistic education of students, are achieved.

Professionalism At Practice II, the student will put into practice the central learning objectives of the program and to learn how to solve business problems within financial management area which will involve applying the data and statistical tools learned from semester 1. The acquired professional competencies will result from experiencing holistically the full end-to-end process of business problem solutions with the advanced tools from semester 1: business problem definition, scope sizing, data acquisition for problem analysis, solutions proposals, and evaluation of solutions for implementation cost. The student will also learn the accepted practice of how to estimate needed precision and granularity for business problematics versus research purpose.

Learning Goals / Competence

Professional competence ("knowledge and understanding" and "skills") During a semester abroad, students can further specialize in a field of financial management and thereby acquire specialist knowledge in a global context. They also acquire in-depth knowledge of a non-German-speaking country’s financial system. Interdisciplinary competence ("social competence" and "independence"): During a semester abroad, students acquire intercultural competences in particular and can thus react to these interculturally sensitised in later work situations. The self-organisation of the students is also strengthened for professionalism.

Learning Goals / Competence

Professional competence ("knowledge and understanding" and "skills"): The students are able to deal with a relevant complex problem independently and critically and to present the learned scientific methods in detail. In the Master's thesis, the student is able to work out the task independently, structured and according to scientific methods in accordance to international scientific standards, using the competences acquired up to then in the courses of study, within a specified period of time. A central component is the written, scientifically sound elaboration of the results of the work and their discussion, including literature and other sources. Students are enabled to differentiate sources according to their scientific value and quality and to integrate them in the structure of a logical chain of argumentation. In the colloquium, the student is able to present the work in a summarized and understandable way and to discuss it with the expert audience from an objective point of view. Overarching competence ("social competence" and "self development"): Students are able to work on and complete a project on their own and on schedule, in which they analyse, structure and solve complex problem requiring expertise.Students are also able to manage themselves independently by setting appropriate priorities and coping productively with the stresses and strains during the module. They can accept critique and respond constructively. Special methodological competence, if necessary: Students can derive and apply an advanced research methodology from the question by collecting relevant information, working independently on projects, collecting, analysing, interpreting, evaluating data and selecting methods appropriate to the object of research in order to then apply them professionally. They can present and defend complex subject-related content in a clear and targeted manner, both orally

and in writing. They will be able to develop efficient working techniques. Students can clearly present the "red thread" of their research work both orally and in writing.

Preparation for participation in this module: approval of the topic of the Master's thesis by the board of regulation in the field of study.

Comments

- The Master's thesis can be written in German or English, whereby one of the two languages must be used consistently.

- Scientific sources are in particular articles and contributions in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals, the primary use of which must be strictly observed in the Master's thesis.

- By resolution of the examination board, the degree programme may issue additional guidelines in the usual form by notice or announcement, which regulate the content and formal requirements for the Master's thesis as well as questions of procedural organisation and evaluation. These are available on the programme's website.
