Prestonpans Infant School Newsletter
September 2013
Remember school is closed on Friday 13th AND Monday 16ht
September this year. Enjoy a long relaxing weekend.
Our Harvest Celebration will be on Thurday 19
September at 9am in the gym hall. All parents
and carers are welcome to come and listen to the
Harvest songs. The children are invited to bring
in tins of food or dried food and fruit and veg which P3s will
take to our elderly neighbours and to East Lo-
thian Foodbank. East Lothian Foodbank would
particularly like tinned meat, fish or veg, small
bags of sugar, long life fruit juice and custard.
You can begin sending food in as soon as you
like, Children will keep it in the classes to bring
to assembly on 19.9.13.
We usually have our McMillan Coffee Morning straight after
Harvest Celebration but this year it’s going to be at 9am on
Friday 4 October 2013 (for staffing reasons). Children will
be serving this year to make it an extra treat for you. Put
the date in your diary.
On Thursday 19 September from 6.30—7.30pm, you are in-
vited to school to see your child’s new class and meet their
new teacher. P2 and P3 children can take their families into
their classrooms. P1 teachers will have a talk and we will
provide a crèche for P1 pupils and their brothers and sisters.

I am sorry to tell you that Miss Carr will be retiring from
Prestonpans Infant School after over 30 years of service to
the families of Prestonpans. Miss Carr is a great favourite of
children and parents alike and I know her current pupils and
their families will be particularly disappointed. We wish Miss
Carr well in her retirement. Be reassured that we have begun
the process of recruiting to fill Miss Carr’s shoes or should I
say sandals! It won’t be an easy job.
Only a few parents came to the recent consultation on how
parents and carers would like the extra 125hrs the Scottish
Government are providing from August 2014 organised. Ideas
being considered are a) giving longer days b) opening in sum-
mer holidays c) using Friday afternoons d) taking vouchers to
private providers and a few other options. You can have your
say in an online survey on East Lothian Council’s website from
3—20 September 2013. You can find it by going to East Lo-
thian’s website and looking for Early Learning and Childcare
Consultation or on this web address;

Please pass this on to parents of children aged 3 years and
under as it will affect them most.
