ROTATE THE DOOR KNOB HORIZONTALLY TO MAKE THE EARTH SWITCH TO BE ENGAGED WITH THE GROUND, NOT NECESSARY TO OPEN THE DOOR PICTURE 2.

WORKING WITH HIGH VOLTAGE. AN ERROR WOULD MOST PROBABLY BE FATAL

WORKING ON A HIGH VOLTAGE SWITCHBOARD. LIKE ALL THE OTHER WORKS WITH

HIGH VOLTAGE, TWO PERSONS ARE ALWAYS REQUIRED, WITH AT LEAST ONE

ELECTRICIAN WITH A HIGH VOLTAGE TRAINING COURSE.

1. BEFORE MEGGER TEST OF AN HV MOTOR IS CONTACTED, SWITCH FROM ABB TERMINAL

REMOTE CONTROL TO LOCAL [L LED TO BE ON] TO PREVENT REMOTE OPERATION.

2. PULL OUT THE CONTACTOR IN TEST POSITION: TO DO IT SIMULTANEOUSLY TURN

COUNTER-CLOCKWISE TO UN-LATCH AND PULL OUT THE TRUCK

TO WITHDRAWN POSITION, ON ABB TERMINAL SHOWS [TEST POS] PICTURE 1.

3. ROTATE THE DOOR KNOB HORIZONTALLY TO MAKE THE EARTH SWITCH TO BE ENGAGED

WITH THE GROUND, NOT NECESSARY TO OPEN THE DOOR PICTURE 2.

4. LOCK THE GROUND INTERLOCK KEY ON THE BREAKER, REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE SLOT

AND KEEP IT INSIDE YOUR POCKET PICTURE 3.

5. REMOVE CONNECTION BOX COVER OF THE MOTOR TO BE TESTED. REMEMBER AS A RULE

HIGH VOLTAGE EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED ALIVE UNTIL TO

ESTABLISH VISIBLE EARTH OF THE WORK PLACE. DO A VOLTAGE TEST WITH

THE HIGH VOLTAGE TESTER. REMEMBER TO DO A FUNCTION TEST OF THE

TESTER BOTH TIMES BEFORE AND AFTER THE ACTUAL TEST.

CONNECT MEGGER TESTER TERMINALS ONE ON THE SHIP’S METALLIC STRUCTURE

AND THE OTHER TO ONE PHASE L1 PICTURE 4.

6. GO BACK TO MAIN SWITCHBOARD AND DO THE ABOVE STEPS REVERSELY. INSERT THE KEY

AND UN-LOCK, TURN THE DOOR KNOB TO ORIGINAL POSITION [VERTICALLY] AND FINALLY

PUSH BACK THE TRUCK IN NORMAL POSITION.

MOTOR WILL BE UN-GROUNDED AND PHASE IS READY FOR MEGGER TESTING PICTURE 5.

7. REMEMBER AS A RULE AFTER DISCONNECTION OF THE EARTH APPARATUS THE

CONNECTIONS SHOULD BE NOW CONSIDERED “ALIVE” SINCE THEY ARE NO LONGER

GROUNDED. KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THOSE TERMINALS AS A PRECAUTION.

TAKE MEGGER TEST READING FROM THE CONNECTED PHASE L1 ONLY PICTURE 6.

8. REPEAT STEPS FROM [3 – 8] TO MEGGER TEST THE SECOND PHASE L2 AND SO ON.

IMPORTANT REMARKS:

THE FOLLOWING LISTED MOTORS MEGGER TEST PROCEDURE IS SAME AND SHOULD BE

CARRY ON STEP BY STEP AS DESCRIBED ABOVE STEPS [1-8].

1. NO 1 BALLAST PUMP MOTOR

2. NO 2 BALLAST PUMP MOTOR

3. NO 3 BALLAST PUMP MOTOR

4. NO 1 HD CARGO COMPRESSOR MOTOR

5. NO 2 HD CARGO COMPRESSOR MOTOR

THE FOLLOWING TWO MOTORS HAVE THREE BREAKERS AND MEGGER TEST

PROCEDURE SHOULD BE DONE IN THE SAME WAY AS ABOVE. INSTEAD OF ONE ALL THREE

BREAKERS MAIN, BY PASS AND STAR TO BE GROUNDED AND UN-GROUNDED BEFORE

INSULATION READING IS TAKEN.

1. BOW THRUSTER MOTOR

2. SPRAY PUMP MOTOR

THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL DOCUMENT THEREFORE EVALUATE ACCORDING

TO YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE. IF IT IS NECESSARY TO TAKE MORE

PRECAUTIONS THEN DO IT……………………………………………………………..
