D ance is perhaps the most ancientof all art forms. The very word,‘dance’ makes our skin tickle and

fills our soul with an unmixed pleasureof gaiety and mirthfulness.

The much anticipated Inter-House Dance Competition was held onthe 24th of September at theWilliamson Magor Hall. Thecompetition hosted an elegant and adazzling display of moves, lifts and thetwists. It beautifully communicated thedancing talent of the AVS community. The competition was split into threecategories namely Classical Dance(Jugalbandi), Freestyle Duet and GroupDance.

The evening started off withJugalbandi, a dance form in which onedances on two different tunes played inrapid succession. The rounds ofapplause complimented the dancers andaccentuated their perfection of the art. Thethrill of Jugalbandi was followed by the delightof Freestyle Duet, which exhibited sheerpower and energy. All four brother-sisterhouses came up with wonderful ideas, accompanied by enormous vigour. The eventfinally ended with the Group Dance, which wasa definite marker of great creativity andamazing choreography. Throughout thecompetition, one was presented with a perfect

the dresses. Except for a few stand out pieces –like the yellow Lady Gaga inspired dress, thewedding dress made with tissue paper, thenewspaper dress and a few more – the dresses

more or less were safe and stuck to conventionalcuts and styles. Nonetheless, fashion at AVS isstill blooming and is unfolding its petals little bylittle. Sukrita Baruah

On the aim of the Workshop:The goal of the workshop was to uplift theinterest of the students to choose prolificcourse of Engineering through the robuststaircase of Mathematics. The workshopaimed to offer and expand interest of thestudents about the interdisciplinary careeropportunities with Mathematics andEngineering in the emerging fields of FinancialAnalysis & Risk Management, Combinatorics& Optimization, Bioinformatics, ComputerScience, Nanotechnology, Mechatronics etc.

The Waterloo team was very pleasedwith the interest and response shown by thestudents during workshop. Their livelydiscussion of the subjects contributed muchto provide a common platform to al lpart icipants to exchange ideas andtechniques of learning.

Recap: Ben and Carla - both thieves by professionand failed lovers. Carla desperately wants to knowwho let Ben out of jail and had compromised herlocation. But Ben tests Carla’s patients a little toomuch. And Carla is not happy. (Previous Episodewritten by Himangshu Arya)

“Cut!! All right that was better than the last time. But I need more from both of you. You two lookout of sorts. What’s the matter?” our director,Mr. Mayor asked us, appearing very concerned.“Oh! I’m really sorry. Just have this badfeeling...”“Looks like somebody’s having a bad day,” I cuther out, “Sir, let’s take a break?’’“Alright everybody listen up, we resume in halfan hour”I called out for Rosie, but she didn’t bother. So Ifollowed her to her chair. She really did seemout of sorts. I knew that there was somethingdeep gnawing in her mind.“Sad that mayor stops at the count of three?Don’t worry he’ll let you shoot,” I said pullingup a chair beside her. “Maybe...hope I could just get over with it asfast as possible.”“Same here. I wonder why Mayor is dragging iton for so long. Well, maybe he wants aperfection. But then again, I don’t see anyoneelse fitting the role as perfectly as you. But whyis it affecting you?”I noticed that she still held the Soviet made

Makarov pistol in her hand. Maybe she hadnever held a gun in her life before.“I don’t think this is your first movie with a gun,or is it?”“No, I have played with toys before...”“But things do seem strange when the pistol isfully loaded right?”She said nothing. She pressed her lips into a thinline. I wanted to kiss it but thought better of itand restrained myself. She was nervous, I couldtell. Something bothered her.“What is it Rosie? You can trust me on this.” Iwhispered.I thought I saw tears in her eyes but she blinkedand it was gone.“It’s alright. It’s nothing really serious.”“No, it’s not, I can see it in your eyes Rosie.” Ipressed on.She sighed and said, “Thank you for yourconcern, James, but I really...I am fine. Honest.See.” She forced a smile, “It’s just that I feel veryuncomfortable with a loaded gun in my hand. Imean what would happen if it were to go off? What if somebody would get hurt?”“As long as the safety switch is on it will nevergo off,” I assured her, “So this really is the firsttime you are holding a real and loaded gun?”I took the gun away from her and with an experthand, clicked the safety switch off and back onagain then ejected the magazine. There were 11rounds in the magazine, but the Makarov has 12rounds per clip... ...to be continued
