St. Thomas Aquinas School is the Right Choice!

St. Thomas Aquinas School is expanding its PK 4 and K programs!

We have received several inquiries for half-day programs. We would like to begin offering a half-day morning program for 5 days a week for both PK 4 and K from 8:30 – 11:15 a.m. this coming Fall – 2018-2019 school year. We are presenting this opportunity to our parishioners first.

The part-time PK 4 program will continue in keeping with our current PK 4 goal to nurture our students’ God-given gifts and talents and is designed to strike a balance between children’s developmental and emotional needs and the desire of some families who prefer a shorter school day.

The K half-day program will offer a complete curriculum designed to help students achieve in First Grade. The children have time for successful experiences both in academics and group/individual play. A happy child who is eager to come to school is one of the most important achievements of the kindergarten year. A half day kindergarten program offers students the opportunity to transition to a full day program during the year.

Please contact the school office at 603-432-2712 if you are interested in a half-day PK 4 or K program. Space is limited.

LONDONDERRY HANNAFORD HELPS REUSABLE BAG PROGRAM

Starting in July. Hannaford Supermarkets will offer a program that will help our Food Pantry. The program works like this: every time a “Fight Hunger” bag is purchased at the Hannaford store located at 6 Hampton Drive, Londonderry, NH during July, our STA Food Pantry will receive a $1 donation. You can find the red “Fight Hunger” Bag on the reusable bag rack at the store, and at the bag rack there will be a sign that lets customers know that you are the beneficiary of the Fight Hunger bag that month. This program was specifically designed to generate donations in support of non-profits working to make the communities local to each Hannaford store a better place.

13TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

THE CLERGY CORNER

Dear Parish Family, In my homily last weekend, I mentioned that in our interactions with one another we cannot truly know someone’s heart—only God can. C.S. Lewis wrote at length about our relationships and about our lives from our perspective as opposed to our lives in the eyes of God. In “The Weight of Glory” he reveals how we should consider our relationship with God and with each person we encounter. Lewis reminds us that “we walk every day on the razor edge between two incredible possibilities.” The possibilities are: 1. Infinite glory with God if we accept his love and mercy or 2. Eternal separation from God if we do not. We are called by Jesus to accept the “weight of glory” not only to ensure our eternal happiness but also to help our neighbor bear this same weight. C.S. Lewis sums up the two possibilities and how we are responsible not only for ourselves but also for our neighbors by reminding us that there is eternal life, either with God or separated from Him. He writes, “All day long we are, in some degree helping each other to one or the other of these destinations. It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilitiesMthat we should conduct all of our dealings with one another. There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations—these are mortal. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit.”

In other words, we can’t take our interactions with others for granted—be they family members, friends, co-workers, or people we meet in the grocery store. We are never in stasis; we are always moving ourselves and one another either closer to God or further away from God.

I think it is particularly important for us to bear this in mind in the culture in which we find ourselves today. If you catch the news, hop on social media, check your email, read the paper or a magazine, watch televised sports, or engage in conversation anywhere, you are likely to quickly find yourself immersed in negativity. We can either contribute to that negativity, or we can act as a positive force by avoiding the pessimism, hostility, and turmoil—not by burying our heads in the sand and pretending it’s not happening, but by bearing in mind the reality that Lewis describes. We need to speak and act as disciples who know the reality of eternal life.

This is no easy task. Therefore, we need to always ask the Holy Spirit to help us navigate through the dangerous terrain of negativity and carry the message of salvation through Jesus Christ into every situation—whether it be in words or actions or both. It can seem to be a heavy “weight”, but we need to remember what Jesus has told us: “Come to me all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest” (Mt 11:38).

God bless you! Deacon Joe

JULY BOOK GROUP Being so blessed by a vibrant music ministry here at St. Thomas, we understand the power of song in our worship. How the Choir Converted the

World by Mike Aquilina will enhance our under-standing of how music has been present in our church since the earliest days, and how it contin-ues to bring beauty and joy to our church today.

Join our discussion on Tuesday, July 10 at 7:00 in the Church Hall. New members are always welcome. For more information, call Peggy at 434-2388.! ! !!!!

BABY BOTTLE FUNDRAISER

St. Gianna's Place, a home for women in crisis pregnancies, is ready to open its doors in the Londonderry area. But we only need to raise a bit more money in order to purchase a home. Won't you help us reach this goal? Simply take home a baby bottle, fill it with loose change or bills, and return it to the bin in the entrance of the church by July 15th. With your support, we can change mothers' lives and save unborn babies. Thank you!
