WELCOME

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 25th Annual Friends of Acadia Benefit Auction!

From its memorable beginnings as a fine art sale at the Northeast Harbor Neighborhood House, for a quarter-century the Friends of Acadia Benefit Auction has provided essential support for programs that directly benefit Acadia National Park, through a special event that strengthens the personal connection each of us feels for this magnificent place.

Acadia is unique among national parks, having been created entirely by private donations of land by farsighted individuals. The legacy of private support continues, and today the great majority of contributions for our work comes from people like you who treasure Acadia. For 28 years, preserving this jewel of a park has been the sole focus of Friends of Acadia, and we are grateful to each person whose stewardship makes it possible.

The Benefit Auction Committee Co-Chairs—the remarkable team of Noelle Wolf, Nonie Sullivan, and Julia Utsch— and committee volunteers have pulled out all the stops for this anniversary event, with exciting auction items and surprises throughout the evening. We appreciate the volunteers, Benefit Patrons, and Business Sponsors who make the Benefit Auction possible. A special “thank you” goes to the many artists, individuals, and businesses who contributed the fantastic auction items in this preview catalog.

By participating in the Benefit Auction—by bidding on live or silent auction items at the event, bidding online until August 19, sending in an absentee bid, or by simply attending the event or making a donation in support of it—you will make a real and lasting difference in the protection of Acadia. We will use proceeds from the Benefit Auction to support new and ongoing programs in Acadia that protect natural and cultural resources, engage youth, and contribute to a quality visitor experience in the park.

Let’s all celebrate Acadia this evening! Through your purchases and your presence, you are continuing the legacy of preservation for our beloved park.

With appreciation,

Edward L. SamekChairman of the Board

Think back to the first time you reached the summit of Cadillac—it looks different today, doesn’t it? Parking, summit vegetation, visitor numbers, social trails, scenic vistas, tour buses…much has changed in recent years.

Acadia National Park and Friends of Acadia share a vision for the future of Cadillac that involves fewer vehicles, smaller buses, restoration of fragile alpine vegetation, and improved interpretation of natural and cultural features through a team of interns serving as Summit Stewards.

Be a part of the solution by helping Friends of Acadia provide the resources and tools that park staff need to manage the balancing act of providing access to the top of Cadillac, while protecting it for future generations.

Your gift will help preserve resources and the visitor experience at the Cadillac summit, for current and future generations.

Please bid on my behalf at the auction for the following items up to the price I have listed. Live Auction bids are to be executed at the lowest possible price permitted by other bids or reserves. Silent Auction bids will be considered the bid of record at the beginning of the Silent Auction. Bids are held in strict confidence.

All bids are subject to the following terms and provisions:• Descriptions of the items have been made with every reasonable effort to describe each one correctly, but all items are sold “where is” and “as is” and without warranty or representation of any kind as to the correct description, genuineness, authenticity, quality, or fitness for any purpose.

• All auction items and services must be used within the time limits stated in the catalog or at the time of auction, and are subject to the terms and conditions stipulated by the donors. Cruises, dinners, and trips must be arranged directly with the donors at a mutually convenient date and are subject to availability. Winning bidders are expected to take special care with the property of private donors.

• All items have been donated to the Friends of Acadia Benefit auction and are sold by it, not by the donors. Purchasers may not ask for refunds or exchanges from the donor. All items are non-transferable.

• “Buy” bids are not accepted. The limit you leave should be the amount to which you would bid if you were to attend.

• Please bid as early as possible. In the event of duplicate bids, the earliest bid takes priority.

• All auction items purchased are subject to shipping charges, if applicable, for which the successful bidder is responsible.

Thank you for bidding!
