Harmony Day Excursion to Dungowan PS

This Friday, we are excited to participate in the

Winangali Small Schools’ Harmony Day event at

Dungowan PS. Students will be participating in a range

of activities, presented by staff from each school. They

will also have the opportunity to work in mixed school

groups, organised into junior and senior ages.

The school requests that parents and families have

their children at school by no later than 8:30am. The

bus is scheduled to leave at 8:40am, with the event

commencing at 10am.

Mr Stephens will be carrying the school’s mobile phone

(0448 246 279), which parents can contact if

something arises.

If you have any questions regarding this event, please

contact the front office.

Parent/Teacher Goal Setting Interviews

In Weeks 9 and 10, the school will be offering parent/

teacher/student goal setting interviews. The purpose is

to set three goals to be achieved over the next term.

These goals will focus on student learning in the areas

of reading, writing and mathematics. We hope through

this process that this provides families with greater

feedback regarding what their child is learning at

school. It also allows for parents to share their

aspirations for the 2021 school year.

Seesaw will play an important role in providing

feedback towards student learning goals. We

encourage parents to view and comment on the

learning of your child.

At Somerton Public School, we value the importance

of working collaboratively with families to strengthen

the home school partnership. Together, we can

provide the best possible educational opportunities for

our students.

Interviews will run for 15 minutes, with the teacher

providing a snapshot of the year so far. If you wish to

discuss any other matters with your child’s teacher,

we ask that you make a separate appointment with a

brief outline of what you wish to discuss.

Booking times with teachers will be offered before and

after school. There is a booking sheet attached to this

newsletter. We ask that families choose up to three

time slot that may be suitable. The school will then

contact you to confirm or discuss an alternative time.

We will where possible look to accommodate multiple

booking times for families that have more than child at

our school.

If you have any questions, please contact the front

office.

School Vision Statement

The new 2021-2024 school plan is currently being

finalised and will be published in Term 2. As a

component of this planning document, staff have

been developing a vision statement which aims to

capture the aspirations for our school and the

students who are at the centre of everything we do.

What we request is feedback on the draft statement. If

you wish to make a submission, please email Mr

Stephens at [email protected].

The statement has been included below:

Mr Stephens’

Message

“Somerton Public School endeavours to challenge all

students to "Strive to Succeed". Our students engage in a

diverse range of educational and social opportunities to

reach their full potential. We provide inclusive

experiences with an aim to develop independent, self

directed learners. This vision is supported and embraced

by an active and engaged school community.”

Before school

The school currently provides before school

supervision from 9am. We ask if students arrive at

school before then that they are seated out the front of

the main building.

Where possible, we do request that students are

dropped off after 9am.

Health Care Plans

Letters will be going home next week to those families

who have healthcare arrangements with the school.

These include asthma or anaphylaxis, require

medication administered at school or have a known

condition which requires monitoring. We ask that you

confirm and sign the form, returning it to our front office

by the end of Term. This may include submitting

updated medical information.

If you have any questions, please contact the school.

Mr Stephens’

Message, cont’d…..

The last two weeks have been filled with lots of great learning for the Cockatoos. We have been

focusing on our oral storytelling skills and this is something we will continue to practice in the coming

weeks.

In maths we have been learning all about patterns and measurement. We created some awesome

patterns using different colours, shapes, sizes, sounds and even our own bodies. The next few weeks

will see us shift our focus to subtraction and possibly even a Cockatoo’s Corner Store!

In art, we have been learning about how art has been celebrated throughout time around the world. We

have been focusing on colouring our own ceramic vases from the Ming Dynasty. Our colouring in is up

in the office on display and our paint scrapings will be up with them soon. So next time you are in the

office, have a look at our awesome display.

In the last two weeks, we have also been publishing some of our learning on SEESAW. Thank you to

those who have connected with the app and commented on their child’s work. We will continue to post

what we get up to during the day. We have also worked hard to earn Dojo points for being ready for

learning, having a growth mindset, displaying teamwork and striving for excellence. I’m not sure if it is

possible to top the number of points we earnt over the last two weeks but I’m sure the Cockatoos will

give it a great try.

Projects

King Parrots have been working hard on our Information Reports and we learnt how to have eye-catching titles to

catch the interest of the readers. The information we researched came from hard copy books and some from the

internet. Pictures were sourced from the world wide web.

Check out our final projects.

Clubs

Clubs have been a huge success. The boys and I have not been too successful,

however we have had some nibbles, so they are there. Last week we almost got flooded

out due to the rise in the river from rain upstream. BUT we survived and had fun

Class rewards

I have started to recognise some fantastic Kings and

Queens within our class and when I notice good

behaviour the kids get to put a pom pom in a jar. When

this jar is full, we will be having a PIZZA PARTY to

celebrate our great school learning success.

Dojo’s are still being rewarded for individual students'

outstanding learning.

Seesaw

Check out the great work our kids are doing on SEESAW. This is a

wonderful platform for showing off the King Parrots achievements, so

log in and have a look.

A silver child’s necklace was found in the playground in the last couple of weeks. Please

phone Fiona in the office for further information.
