Best of Breed

Awards of Merit: At the discretion of the Judge, up to five (5) Awards of Merit to be awarded to dogs or bitches competing in this class.

Following Best of Breed Judging there will be competition for: Best Puppy in Puppy Classes - Best Bred By Exhibitor from Bred by Classes- Best Phalene from Open Drop Eared Classes - Best Vet-eran from Veteran Classes

AMATEUR-OWNER-HANDLER CLASS - CHAPTER 3: SECTION 7. The Amateur-Owner-Handler class shall be for dogs that are at least six months of age that are not champions. Dogs must be handled in the class by the registered owner of the dog. This class is restricted

to exhibitors who have not, at any point in time, been a professional dog handler, AKC approved confor-mation judge, or employed as an assistant to a professional handler. Addi onally, members of the imme-diate family or household of a current professional handler are ineligible for this class (as defined in Chapter 11, Section 13). Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers’ organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay.

BRED BY EXHIBITOR CLASS - CHAPER 3: SECTION 8. The Bred-by-Exhibitor Class shall be for dogs that are: • Six months of age or older as of the first day of the show; • Not Champions on the date of closing of entries for the show; • Individually registered with The American Kennel Club as of the date of the show; • Owned or co-owned by any of the breeders of record as of the date of the show. • The person handling the dog in this class must be a breeder of record and an owner of record of this dog. In any subsequent classes for which a dog from the Bred-by-Exhibitor class becomes eligible, there are no restrictions as to who may handle.

BEST OF BREED COMPETITION The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed Competition: Dogs and Bitches that are Champions of Record will be judged together.

NON-REGULAR (ADDITIONAL) CLASSES INVOLVING SINGLE DOG ENTRIES Veterans Class – Classes for dogs and bitches; 7 years and under 10 years, and 10 years and over. Veterans Note: 1st place winners of Veteran Dog & Veteran Bitch classes are eligible to com- pete for Best of Breed if undefeated in any other classes at this show. Neutered Dogs and Spayed Bitches may be entered.

NON-REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES NATIONAL ONLY

As the judge’s decision in the Non-Regular Classes involving Multiple Dog Entries is based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in these classes will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed by virtue of having won these classes. STUD DOG CLASS – For Stud Dog and at least two, but no more than five of their Get. It is not necessary that the Get be under the same ownership as that of the Stud Dog. The Stud Dog may be entered separately in one of the regular classes, or if a Champion of Record in Best of Breed Competition, but MUST be entered in the Stud Dog Class, the Get MUST be entered in one of the regular classes. The Stud Dog shall be considered as one entry and requires one entry fee, this

being the regular fee plus the additional class fee if the Stud Dog is entered in another class. The Stud Dog must be shown in the ring with the Get. The class will be judged on the merits of the Get. BROOD BITCH CLASS – Same as for the Stud Dog except substitute Brood Bitch for Stud Dog and Produce for Get. BRACE CLASS – Two dogs of the same recognized breed or variety that are similar in appearance, performing in unison, and presented by a maximum of two handlers. Both dogs competing in brace competition must have at least one common owner.

PUPPY SWEEPSTAKES Dogs shown in Sweepstakes must be entered in one of the regular classes at the regular entry fee and on the regular entry form. Indicate your Sweepstakes Class with the age division in the space provided for “Additional Class”. Handlers or Agents may handle in sweepstakes. The following classes will be provided for both dogs and bitches:

4 - 6 MONTHS BEGINNER PUPPY Dog & Bitches will be judged together

One combined class will be offered for dogs that are (4) four months & under (6) six months. There will be a selection of Best of Breed 4 & Under 6 Months puppy, and Best of Opposite Sex. An AKC registration number or AKC litter number will be required for all entries. A foreign-born dog may enter this class if they are registered in the country of origin. Dogs are required to be vaccinated (including rabies) in accordance with their veterinarian’s protocol in order to avoid inadvertent transmission of illness by/to puppies not yet fully immun-ized. Dogs that are owned or co-owned by a professional handler may compete in this class, but must be handled by a non-professional handler. Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs to or has belonged to a professional handlers’ organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay within the last five years. Dogs may not be exhibited by current assistants or household members of a pro-fessional handler. A current assistant is defined as anyone employed by a professional handler on a full-time basis or assisting a professional handler at the show or any show during the cluster/weekend. Minors (under 18) with amateur status who reside with professional handlers and current assistants to professional handlers that are eligible to compete in Junior Showmanship (meet age and amateur status requirements) may personally exhibit dogs in the Four-to-Six Month (Beginner Puppy) Competition. AKC Rules in Dealing with Misconduct will be applicable to any person and dog entered at this competition. All applicable rules found in Rules Applying to Dog Shows will govern the conduct

of this competition unless these regulations state otherwise. Exhibitors should plan on open-ing the mouth of their puppy for the judges. Breed standard disqualifications such as color, height, weight or dentition shall not be a point of consideration in the judging process for this 4 & Under 6 Months Puppy Competition.

Jump Height in descending order for Obedience & Rally Transfers (formerly Move-ups) ·After a dog earns a title, a transfer (i.e., from an obedience class to an obedience class; or a rally class to a rally class) may be requested if, according to the owner’s records the handler and dog are eligible and the dog has completed the requirements for the title after the closing date of the trial in which the advanced entry is to be made. The request for a transfer must be in writing and presented to the trial secretary at least 30 minutes prior to the start of each trial. Transfers may be approved

provided the class and judge are available, and the class has not reached its limit. For a written request regarding a transfer for an ineligible dog and handler team from the “A” class to the “B” class at the same level, please refer to the AKC Obedience Regulations, Chapter 1, Section 16b

JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP COMPETITION

NOVICE JUNIOR CLASS - For Boys and Girls at least 9 and under 12 years of age on the day of the show who at the time entries close, have not won three (3) first place awards, with competition present, in a Novice lass at a licensed or member show. NOVICE INTERMEDIATE CLASS - For Boys and Girls at least 12 and under 15 years of age on the day of the how who at the time entries close, have not won three (3) first place awards, with competition present, in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show. NOVICE SENIOR CLASS - For Boys and Girls at least 15 and under 18 years of age on the day of the show who at the time entries close, have not won three (3) first place awards, with competition present, in a Novice lass at a licensed or member show. OPEN JUNIOR CLASS - For Boys and Girls at least 9 and under 12 years of age on the day of the show who t the time entries close, have won three (3) first place awards in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show, with competition present in the Novice Class. OPEN INTERMEDIATE CLASS - For Boys and Girls at least 12 and under 15 years of age on the day of the how who at the time entries close, have won three (3) first place awards in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show, with competition present in the Novice Class. OPEN SENIOR CLASS - For Boys and Girls at least 15 and under 18 years of age on the day of the show who t the time entries close, have won three (3) first place awards in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show, with competition present in the Novice Class. MASTER CLASS - For Boys and Girls at least 9 and under 18 years of age on the day of the show and who have won ten (10) Best Junior Handler awards with competition. The calendar for this class will be consistent with the eligibility dates for the AKC Eukanuba National Championship. All juniors meeting the criteria for this lass are required to enter the Master Class and may change their entry the day of the show if entries have already closed. Once the eligibility time frame for that year has passed, all participants return to the Open Class o compete for the following year. NOTICE: Junior Handlers must include their AKC JUNIOR HANDLER NUMBER on each entry. You may obtain your junior identification number by calling the AKC, Judges Education Depart-ment, (919) 233- 767. BE SURE ALL INFORMATION for Junior Showmanship Classes is entered on front and back of entry form.

PARADE OF NEW TITLE HOLDERS Dogs entered in this class may or may not be entered in a Regular class of this show, however, all dogs must have earned an American Kennel Club Champion of Record Title, American Kennel Club performance event title, or American Kennel Club companion events title in the prior calendar year along with have an AKC Registration Number. The class will not be judged and each entry will receive the special prize of a rosette imprinted with the dog’s name. A biography of the dog, up to 200 words MUST be included with the entry form. If entry is on-line, the biography must be emailed to the Superintendent, identifying the entry by name, registration number, and own-er’s name. Entry fee $50.00. Enter on the regular entry form.

OVER 60 COMPETITION The Over 60 Competition will be offered. This will be a non-regular class. Dogs may or may not be entered in a regular class and may be any age. Handlers are encouraged to be in costume for this event and their dogs are allowed to be in costume for this event. Entry fee $15. Enter on the regular entry form.

TROPHIES AND PRIZES Unless otherwise specified, the trophies and prizes listed are offered by the Papillon Club of America through the generous sponsorship of members and friends whose names will be listed in the catalog. Trophies and prizes (including cash prizes) will be awarded in the judging rings to the person exhib-iting the dog, who will be considered to be the owner or agent of the owner. All claims for trophies and other prizes must be made in the judging ring before the completion of the judging of the breed, and the Show Chairperson advised at once in the event of any discrepancy. The Club re-serves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. NO AWARDS WILL BE MAILED. ALL AROUND PAPILLON CHALLENGE The “All Arounder”

To celebrate and recognize our multi-talented Papillons, we are proud to offer the “All Around Papillon Challenge” A fun competition for dogs that compete in conformation, agility, rally and obedience. The quali-fying criteria includes:

• At least one of the dog’s owner’s must be a current member of the Papillon Club of America. • “Canine Partner Program” (mix breeds) are not eligible to compete.

• The dog must be registered for the All Around Papillon Challenge award by the closing date listed on the registration form (same closing date as the 2021 PCA National Specialty) The All Arounder Challenge winner receives an awesome Crate Cover donated by Bonnie Kost and rosette. All participants will receive a handler bag filled with goodies and a certificate of partici-pation. A low registration cost of $10.00

Vendor Informa Thank you for your interest in attending as a vendor during the 2021 Papillon Club of America National Specialty event to be held at the Holiday Inn Des Moines Airport/ Conference Cen-ter, 6111 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa 50321. Reservations at the host hotel can be made by calling +1 (515) 287-2400 and please mention code Papillon Group. Our contracted room rate is $96 per night plus hotel taxes. Please note Agility Events are at a separate site and not covered by this reservation form.

The booth area will be available for vendors to begin set-up during the evening of Monday, September 6, 2021. Vendor sales will begin the day of the first show on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 We ask that you remain for the whole show week, which will conclude after the Best of Breed on Saturday, September 11, 2021 . At the end of the show we request the vendor area to be cleared and that you remove all items from your booth leaving nothing behind.

Available booth space size and associated cost are: 10’x10’ space for $150 and all Booths will come with 1 – 6’ table & 2 chairs.

CANADIAN EXHIBITORS MUST SUBMIT ENTRIES WITH CHECKS DRAWN ON U.S. ACCOUNTS OR WITH INTERNATIONAL MONEY ORDERS IN U.S. FUNDS.

An AKC Recording Fee of 50 cents and $3.00 AKC Event service Fee will be required for each dog en-tered at any Licensed or Member Club Show or Obedience Trial. These Fees are to be collected by the show-giving Club and paid to the American Kennel Club. If a dog is entered in more than one class in the show, the event service fee will be collected on additional entries as well. (American Kennel Club Rule, Chapter 11, Section 2). For All Rally entries, an AKC Recording fee of $3.00 will be required (Rally Regulations, Chapter 1, Section 3).

RETURNED CHECKS / INVALID CREDIT CARDS do not constitute a valid entry. The Show Secretary will add a collection fee of $25 to the amount of each returned check and credit card. Subsequent returned checks and credit card from the same exhibitors may result in their being put on a cash-only basis. Entry Fee will not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, excused by Veterinarian or judge, or barred from competition by action of the Show Committee.

No entry fees will be refunded if the Show cannot open or be completed by reason of riots, civil disturb-ances, fire, extreme and or dangerous weather conditions, an Act of God, public emergency, act of public enemy, strikes or any other cause beyond the control of the Club or the Show Secretary.

No Refund for Duplicate Entries. Every effort to find all duplicate entries will be made; however, if entry has been processed, no refund will be made.

No Entry shall be made and no entry shall be accepted which specifies any conditions as to its ac-ceptance.

Dogs need be present only for scheduled judging and will be released if not needed for further judging. Dogs must be ready for judging. Neither the club nor the show secretary will be responsible or obligat-ed to furnish any service for notifying exhibitors or their agents of Breed or Class judging.

Judges need not wait for any dog holding up the class. Owners or agents alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging rings.

The show giving club, the Show secretary, their agents, employees, etc., assume no responsibility for any loss, damage, or injury sustained by exhibitors or handlers to any of their dogs or property, and further assume no responsibility for injury to children.

LOSS OR DAMAGE. MANAGEMENT IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOSS OF, DAMAGE TO, OR DEATH OF ANY DOG EXHIBITED, OR FOR THE POSSESSIONS OF ANY PARTICIPANT WHETHER THE RESULT OF ACCIDENT OR ANY OTHER CAUSE. IT IS EXPRESSLY UNDERSTOOD THAT EVERY DOG AT THESE SHOWS IS IN THE CARE AND CUSTODY AND CONTROL OF HIS OWNER OR HANDLER DURING THE ENTIRE TIME THE DOG IS ON THE SHOW PREMISES.
