Free relief must be taken from practice greens (Rule 13.1f) and may be taken at the player’s option from the practice bunkers (Rule 16.1). LIGHTNING SYSTEM

Glen Ridge C.C. has a lightning prediction system that warns golfers a lightning storm is nearby. One 15 second blast of a siren will blow if there is a danger of a lightning strike on or around the golf course. There are 2 siren horns, one is located on the clubhouse and one is in-between the 8th & 9th fairways. When you hear the siren, all play must cease, and all occupants of the golf course must come back to the clubhouse. Play may not resume until all clear is given by the system (three 5 second blasts of the siren).

HANDICAP/POSTING OF SCORES

HANDICAP/POSTING OF SCORES POLICY

We employ the World Handicap System. All members are responsible for understanding how this system works and for using it properly. Scores must be posted to the handicap system from April 1st thru November 30th.The following is an outline of the system:

HANDICAP SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The purpose of the World Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling golfers of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis. A basic premise underlies the World Handicap System, namely that every player will try to make the best score at each hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review.

Fair handicapping depends upon full, accurate information regarding a player’s potential scoring ability as reflected by a complete scoring record. Every golfer shall be responsible for returning all acceptable scores. Posting scores immediately following the round is played via the USGA app is the preferred way to post your score. This method of posting shall be used whenever possible.

ACCEPTABLE SCORES

If 13 or more holes are played, the player shall post an 18-hole score. If 7 to 12 holes are played, the player shall post a nine-hole score. In either case, scores for un-played holes shall be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the un-played holes.

Example: A player with a Course Handicap of 30 stops playing after 16 holes because of darkness. Hole 17 is a par 3 and is the number 18 stroke hole. The player will record 3 (par) plus 1 (handicap stroke to which he is entitled) for an X-4 on hole 17. Hole 18 is a par 4 and is the number 6 stroke hole. The player will record 4 (par) plus 2 (handicap strokes to which he is entitled) for an X-6 on hole 18.

10

ADJUSTED SCORE

Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) is the downward adjustment of individual hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make handicaps more representative of a player’s potential ability. ESC sets a maximum number that a player can post on any hole. There is no limit to the number of holes on which a player may adjust his score.

For the golfers who do not yet have an established handicap index, the maximum number you can post on any hole is par plus five strokes. Once a handicap index has been established, the player is limited to posting a net double bogey.

PENALTY FOR FAILURE TO POST SCORE

A “penalty score” is a score posted by the Handicap Committee for a player who does not return a score or who otherwise does not observe the spirit of the USGA Handicap System.

TOURNAMENT SCORES

Acceptable scores from tournaments must be designated as such when they are posted. Tournament Scores or “T Scores” are an essential part of a golfers USGA handicap index. It is incumbent upon all members to know how to designate a score as a “T Score.” Our Starter or Professional Staff can show you how this is done. The following list of 2021 Tournaments must be posted as “T Scores”: Presidents Cup, Survivor, Men’s and Women’s Club Championships, Men’s and Women’s Member Guests, and Interclub Matches.

AWAY/ACTIVE & NON-ACTIVE SCORES

Acceptable scores played away from GRCC must be posted as soon as possible after the round is played. You must have the Course Rating and Slope from the golf course played.

Away scores from rounds played during our inactive season (December 1, 2021 to March 31 2022) should be posted at the time of play. Only scores from golf courses that are in their active season are acceptable.

REGULAR TOURNAMENTS

Entry to tournament events will be restricted to members with Draw Playing Privileges. Additionally, they must have contributed to the annual Prize Fund of $125. Entry in any event constitutes acceptance of such Prize Fund charge.

All entries must be posted before leaving the First Tee. There are no exceptions.

No member shall be eligible to participate in any of the weekend or holiday tournaments if they tee off after 12:00 and must play with another member. Please do not enter match play events unless you have every expectation of being available to play on the days for which the events are scheduled. Similarly, members should not enter tournament events unless they are able and willing to schedule the required match for normal times on weekends. In the event that participants are

11

not able to agree on a date or time before the last scheduled date for that round, the match must be played by 9:00 AM that day. Any participants not present at 9:00 AM will default. In the event that the golf course is not playable on the last day the match is to be played the Golf and Tournament Committee may grant a postponement. Players competing in a match play event are not eligible for medal play tournaments. Any member, who enters the Presidents Cup, Club and Senior Championship of all classes, and then defaults, will be disqualified from playing in the same tournament the following year. The Golf & Tournament Committee may mitigate this after review, if such default is found to be excusable because of extraordinary circumstances. No alternates will be allowed on default.

If any member cancels his entry into a “special entry fee event” 48 hours prior to the event, he will be assessed the entry fee unless a replacement is found.

Golf Shop Certificates may be used only as credit at the Golf Shop. They are not applicable to any other charge or bill. All credits MUST be redeemed at the Golf Shop before December 19, 2021.
