The Murray State College Financial Aid Office helps connect students to a variety of financial aid opportunities including grants, loans, work-study funds, and scholarships. Information submitted to MSC Financial Aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will help determine the amount of need-based aid for which a student is eligible to receive. Federal student aid is available to students who have maintained satisfactory academic progress (SAP) by maintaining a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) and completing at least 70% of their for-credit courses.

We can answer your questions about the FAFSA and financial aid. We’re here to help! Murray State has a scholarship portal for

students. It’s called AcademicWorks and it is accessible from mscok.edu. The portal opens in mid October. Students will apply for scholarships that will be awarded in fall of the following year. Applications that are received by the closing deadline in February receive priority, but all scholarship applications will be reviewed and considered, regardless of application date.

After the closing date, AcademicWorks will remain open and scholarships will still be available.

For scholarship questions or assistance with the application please contact one of the financial aid staff members listed to the left or email [email protected].

Do Something MajorIf you’re interested in veterinary nursing - we have it.What about a career in business?...we have that, too!

If theatre is your passion, our department chair spent time on Broadway. We also have a manufacturing technology degree program with embedded certificates that will put you in the job market sooner.

We’ve got nursing, English, science, child development and everything in between.

If you’ve decided on a major - that great news! If not, we can help. You can start here and go on to finish a four-year degree. Lots of our students do that because they like being close to home, like saving money, and like starting small.

Just as many begin with us as concurrent high school students to start earning college credits early. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education pay tuition for concurrent students, so the cost for students (books/fees) is a good investment that’s easy to afford.

Other students come to us as aspiring athletes who want more time on the playing field. Many students are needed on the family farm and can’t move too far away. Some are starting over to begin a new career. Some are older and enrolling in college for the first time.

The majority of students end up appreciating their time at Murray and most often they’re not ready to leave when graduation rolls around. Whatever your reason and whatever your dream, you’ll find what you’re looking for at MSC.

You’ll enjoy the security of living on a small campus in a small town. Tishomingo has

fewer than 5,000 residents, and there is a real feeling of security

in the tight-knit community both on and off campus. Murray

State even has its own police department on campus. Our

police officers are certified and ready to protect students and

employees in all ways possible.

There is a large storm shelter in the basement of our Health

Science building and other buildings on campus have

shelters as well.

We partner with Johnston County to use the HyperReach alert system for notification regarding weather or other

safety-related issues on campus. The system sends text, email and

phone messages.

Can you picture it? SERVICES and SecurityFamily Health Center (FHC)Murray partners with the Family Health Center to provide low-cost medical, dental, psychological and other services. The center is located close to the main campus and always ready to assist with student health issues.

Student Success Center (SSC)Located in Library Science Building on our Tishomingo campus, the Student Success Center offers a number of services designed to ensure the success of Murray State students. While our facility is primarily used to house professional and Student Support Services’ tutors and peer tutors, we also offer services such as academic coaching, study skills and strategies, career development resources, and content-specific workshops. There are four conference rooms designed for group study sessions or meetings as well as a large lobby area in the Library with computers, books, study tables and printing services.

Can you picture it? CONCURRENT ENROLLMENTConcurrent students begin earning college credits while still in high school. To qualify as a concurrent student at Murray State while in high school, applicants must participate in the National American College Testing (ACT), Pre-ACT program, or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Minimum scores are required for acceptance to this program.

Tuition for concurrent credits may be paid by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and Murray State College, with students paying for books and fees. Detailed information on the requirements and costs may be found in our online Concurrent Enrollment Handbook on the Murray State College website at mscok.edu.

Reach out to the Murray State College Academic Advisement Team (pictured below) at [email protected] for help enrolling.

According to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, more than 13,000 Oklahoma high school students take advantage of concurrent enrollment last year. That translates to more than 133,000 tuition-free college credit hours taken by high school students in one academic year.

Are You a Rising Star?Students who attend Murray State College concurrently while in high school, then graduate from high school and enroll as full-time students at Murray, can qualify to share in more than $400,000 in tuition waivers during most years.

The college waives tuition at the rate of $250 for each A and B earned by concurrent high-school students when they enroll at Murray State full time after high school graduation.

Qualifying students who continue to enroll in at least 12 hours per semester and earn at least a 2.0 GPA, can renew waivers for a second year.

Win-win!

Less is never more when it comes to lifetime income. But what about debt? Lifetime earnings for college graduates with bachelor’s degrees far exceed those with just high school diplomas. The estimated median lifetime earnings (in 2017 dollars) for a bachelor’s degree recipient at age 64 was more than $1.2 million. High school graduates earned far less — just over $800,000, according to the College Board’s research. The data assumes adults are working full-time after college and accounts for money borrowed to cover tuition, fees and supplies. College graduates who only have bachelor’s degrees and work full-time took home a median of $24,900 more than high school graduates did in 2018, the research shows. Those age 25 or older with a four-year degree earned a median $65,400 in 2018. That year, individuals with just a high school diploma earned a median $40,500.

“A higher education is an investment that pays significant dividends over the course of a lifetime — even for students who accumulate some debt to obtain

a degree,” Jennifer Ma, senior policy research scientist at College Board and a co-author of the report, said in a statement.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) figures from 2017 show median weekly wages progressively increasing with educational attainment:

Professional degree: $1,836Doctoral degree: $1,743Master's degree: $1,401Bachelor's degree: $1,173Associate's degree: $836Some college, no degree: $774High school diploma, no college: $712Less than a high school diploma: $520

Can you picture it? STUDY ABROADMurray State College launched a global education program in 2014 that has allowed students to explore new and exciting places around the world. Since creation of the study abroad program, participants have traveled to Ireland, England, Sri Lanka, Dominican Re-public, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru, Belize and other exotic loca-tions. Upcoming trips include Amsterdam/Paris/London and Italy/ Greece, Belize, and Germany.

Travel opportunities offer college credit for students, and communi-ty members can engage in study abroad adventures as well. Murray also participates in a special study abroad for high-school students the summer after graduation. The senior summer seminar may be compatible with offerings for concurrent students in which tuition is paid through the state’s concurrent enrollment program.

Murray State College offers an associate of science degree in inter-national studies that can lead to a bachelor’s degree at several four-year institutions in Oklahoma. Study abroad courses may also be used for humanities credits or elective courses in many degree pro-grams. Highlights and additional details about study abroad may be found on the Murray State webpage at mscok.edu or directly at: https://www.mscok.edu/academics/departments/international-studies/study-abroad

OPEN ADMISSION - What it MeansMurray State College is an open-admission community college. For regular enrollment, no specific ACT/SAT scores or high-school GPAs are required. All students must complete the MSC online admission application at www.mscok.edu.
