2020 TERM 2 WEEK 4 Dear North Fremantle Community, It has been so nice to have our school community back together with a lot more face to face interacon. This week we have had approximately 90% aendance with a few children and teachers away during the week due to illness. Thank you everyone for being so posive for our students and supporng them as they come in the school gate. It is a privilege to watch their happy faces come across the grass and up the stairs each morning. We are parcularly proud of our younger students who are demonstrang such independence as they carry their own bags (for some students their bags are almost as big as they are) and set themselves up for their day of learning. Classroom teachers are commenng daily about how seled the students are and how much learning they are achieving each day. HYGIENE During the school hours we are connuing to remain vigilant with hygiene washing our hands, making sure that when we cough we cough into our elbow, sneezing and keeping our nose clean with ssues, sanising, lots of cleaning and disinfecng. We would appreciate it if you connue to remind your children of these things also. As winter sets in these ‘habits’ are needed to keep everyone safe. ATTENDANCE Thank you to all parents and guardians who have connued to keep us informed about student aendance. The telephone calls, emails and use of Connect to send through absences when children are unwell is an important aspect of our legal requirements to record student aendance. This evidence is retained and must coincide with absences marked on the class roll. As aendance has returned to being compulsory the classroom teacher will follow up all unexplained absences and connual unexplained absences will be referred to the school administraon. While we love having your children at school we need to remain diligent during this me and keep students home if they are unwell. The Chief Health Officer also advises that if you or your child have fever, cough or cold symptoms, get tested for COVID-19. SCHOOL UNIFORM The cooler weather has arrived and it is great to see our children arriving rugged up in their school winter uniform. Our super warm polar fleece lined microfibre jacket with school logo and black microfibre track pants are available from our Uniform Shop. An order form is attached for your convenience. Black full length leggings may be purchased from your local clothing store. As part of our Dress Code we ask that students do not wear fashion accessories, make-up, nail varnish, jewellery or clothing that is not the school uniform colours to school. Hoods on jackets are to be worn down during school hours. To protect student health long hair should be tied back. Please label all uniform items with your child’s name so items can be quickly returned if lost around the school grounds. Thank you to everyone for your understanding and support using the Uniform Order forms to purchase items from our P&C Uniform Shop. 2020 TERM 2 WEEK 4

Dear North Fremantle Community,

It has been so nice to have our school community back together with a lot more face to face interaction. This week we have had approximately 90% attendance with a few children and teachers away during the week due to illness. Thank you everyone for being so positive for our students and supporting them as they come in the school gate. It is a privilege to watch their happy faces come across the grass and up the stairs each morning. We are particularly proud of our younger students who are demonstrating such independence as they carry their own bags (for some students their bags are almost as big as they are) and set themselves up for their day of learning.

Classroom teachers are commenting daily about how settled the students are and how much learning they are achieving each day.

HYGIENE During the school hours we are continuing to remain vigilant with hygiene washing our hands, making sure that when we cough we cough into our elbow, sneezing and keeping our nose clean with tissues, sanitising, lots of cleaning and disinfecting. We would appreciate it if you continue to remind your children of these things also. As winter sets in these ‘habits’ are needed to keep everyone safe.

ATTENDANCE Thank you to all parents and guardians who have continued to keep us informed about student attendance. The telephone calls, emails and use of Connect to send through absences when children are unwell is an important aspect of our legal requirements to record student attendance. This evidence is retained and must coincide with absences marked on the class roll. As attendance has returned to being compulsory the classroom teacher will follow up all unexplained absences and continual unexplained absences will be referred to the school administration. While we love having your children at school we need to remain diligent during this time and keep students home if they are unwell. The Chief Health Officer also advises that if you or your child have fever, cough or cold symptoms, get tested for COVID-19.

VIRTUAL ASSEMBLY While we are still limited by some events that we can do at school we have had a team of very busy students and staff working to create our first virtual assembly. All students stayed in their classrooms with their classroom teachers and watched our Virtual Assembly that was filmed and produced by our Student Councillor team. The sound may have been very low but every student across the school showed outstanding whole body listening manners as they watched their friends from across the classes be given Merit Certificates. As it has been some time since our last assembly we had two Aussie of the Month recipients and a group of BUG Award winners also. It was music to my ears listening on the verandah as every class sang the National Anthem and said our School Creed. Congratulations and well done to everyone involved!

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME 2020 National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is hosted by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. NFPS will be joining in this virtual experience reading a special book together on May 27 2020. At our virtual assembly I gave the students some clues about the characters in the story. You may like to quiz your children next week and find out what they thought about this special shared experience.

NATIONAL DAY OF HEALING and RECONCILIATION WEEK On the 26th May we recognise a National Day of Healing- Sorry Day. This is followed by Reconciliation week. The theme for 2020 – In this Together - is now resonating in ways that could not have been foreseen when it was announced in 2019. It reminds us that no matter the circumstances we are all in this together. The Department of Education has put together a video highlighting the relationships to country, culture and family, and the significance of connection during times of uncertainty. You may enjoy watching this video together and talking about the National Day of Healing and Reconciliation Week as a family. Link: https://www.education.wa.edu.au/culturally-responsive-schools

KINDERGARTEN 2021 We have begun accepting Kindergarten enrolments for 2021. If you are a parent, or know of a parent, with a child who is turning 4 years of age before 30 June 2021 (born between July 1 2016 and June 30 2017), please be aware that they are eligible to attend Kindergarten in 2021 Application for Enrolment forms can be obtained from our school’s

website https://www.northfremantleps.wa.edu.au/ or by emailing the

school. When submitting your Kindergarten application, you will need to present your child’s birth certificate, any visa documentation and a copy of their AIR (Australian Immunisation Register) History Statement. You can obtain a copy by phoning AIR on 1800 653 809, emailing [email protected], or from Medicare. We also require proof of your residential address. Please enrol your child as soon as you can. Applications close on 24 July 2020 (the first Friday of Term 3). Unfortunately, we will not be able to run our scheduled ‘Play and Learn’ mornings this term but hope that we will be able to host these special opportunities to meet with future students and their families later in the year.

APPRECAITIONS During this time of change I am grateful to our school community for the ways in which they have shown appreciation to each other. In this Newsletter I have collected some phrases that were shared with staff through conversations and emails along with cards and other expressions of thanks that have been received. Thank you all for your support and understanding during this time.

Please remember to contact the office 9432 1300 or [email protected] if you have any questions or require assistance.
