    Bethany Beacon 2020

Consecration Sunday at Bethany UMC is November 22, 2020. Our theme this year is Living Water. John 7:37-38 shares, “Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” In the Old Testament God is referenced as living water and in the New Testament it’s fulfilled in Jesus.

The power of Jesus is strengthened in a church community. That’s why we covenant to pray, be present, give, serve and witness to further our relationship with Jesus so that rivers of living water will flow within us. We give what we give out of our commitment to Jesus Christ. Jesus talks about being generous. It is clear that we need to give as Christians. Dr. David Jeremiah reminds us that "nothing" is a secret to God. God knows our hearts and our motives and one day we will give an account of what we give!

The standard of stewardship is that God is the owner of all. God entrusts us with what we have for a reason. We are to be joyful and generous. The Greek word here is “Charis;” it suggests beauty, love, and exhilaration. Giving for the Christian is not an obligation, but an opportunity to live out our faith and witness to the gospel of Jesus in our midst.

Be a part of the cast – Sign-up for casting is out! Go to www.bethany-umc.com to sign up online. You will also receive

emails with the signup links. We are asking that everyone who would like to participate in the

LCS to please sign up. For safety reasons, the amount of people on set is limited and only people

who have signed up will be permitted on set.

Volunteer Behind the Scenes – There are several ways you can help make the production a success. There will be a sign-up for

the volunteer spots along with cast sign-up.

Set-Up – Beginning November 14 and each Saturday leading up to the Living Christmas Story, we

will be assembling sets and setting up scenes. Many, many volunteers are needed to help each

    week.

Covering Building Windows – a team is needed to cover all the windows in the building that face

the sets with heavy black plastic. This can be done any time the two weeks before the 10th.

Food Prep/Serving – There will be wrapped sandwiches and pre-packaged snacks each night.

Help is needed to box up the sandwiches and pass them out to the cast and volunteers.

Costumes/Props – Lots of help is needed with handing out costumes and props. Access to the

costumes will be limited so volunteers will be needed to pull costumes and hand them out to

cast members. There will also be volunteers to help with dressing cast members, to help clean

costumes at the end of each night and to restock the costumes and props.

Traffic – Since trams are not being provided this year, vehicle traffic will be even greater. 15-20

volunteers are needed each night to coordinate the lining up of cars and directing traffic.

Security – Each night that the sets are up, there must be on-site security. It is vital that we have

someone here through the night to patrol the grounds beginning Sunday December 6.

Scene Coordinators – 4 Volunteers are needed each night to coordinate and supervise a group of

scenes. These people help to make sure the cast is in place, ensure that the scene is ready and

help with any problems or issues.

Take-Down – We disassemble the sets Saturday night after the last car goes through. Be here by

8:30pm on Saturday to help us get the parking lot and building ready for Sunday.

Donate – You can help provide pre-packaged snacks for the cast and crew. Drop-off any snacks (individual

chips, cookies, granola bars, Little Debbie's, fruit snacks, etc.) or bottled water in the kitchen

during business hours or after worship anytime before December 10. You can also make a

monetary donation towards this, please mark all donations LCS food. All donations are much

    appreciated!!

Promote – Help us spread the word that the LCS is happening! You can deliver posters to businesses around

town, let your neighbors and friends know about it, share any social media posts and just talk it

up! We know that the community looks forward to this happening and we want everyone to

    know about it!!
