Diploma Programme Career-Related Programme

How to Achieve the IB DiplomaThe IB Diploma will be awarded to a candidate provided ALL of the following requirements have been met:

1. CAS requirements have been met2. The candidate has earned at least 24 total points out of

possible 453. The candidate earns at least 12 points on HL subjects (or the

highest three HL grades for those who have 4 HL courses)4. The candidate earns at least 9 points on SL subjects

(candidates who register for two SL subjects must earn at least 5 points).

How to Achieve the IB DiplomaContinued:

5. There are no “N” grades for Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay or for a contributing subject

6. There are no “E” grades for Theory of Knowledge and/or the Extended Essay

7. No “1” grades for any subject/level and no more than two “2” grades

8. There are at most three “3” or lower grades earned (HL or SL)

How to Achieve the IB DiplomaHow does the student earn points?

• They can score 1-7 points per each 6 Groups• They can earn up to an additional 3 points from

the TOK/Extended Essay matrix

Complete 1 course from each of the 6 Groups during junior and senior years.

Diploma Programme Courses

Of the 6 courses:

3 HL courses and earn 12 total points from those courses

Of the 6 courses:

3 SL courses and earn 9 total points from those courses

Diploma Programme CoursesStudents earn a final grade of 1-7 points in each of the 6 courses through a variety of assessments.

Internal Assessments– Orals– Projects– Written papers

External Assessments– Written paper for TOK– Written Extended Essay– Written World Literature Paper– Written examinations in May

CASCreativity, Action, Service

• 150 hours total, with at least 75 of those being service hours.• At least two activities within each of the three components (C, A, S)• A CAS project

– multiple components (creative and active, active and service, etc.)– lasts a significant duration of time

• calendar (at least a month) • hours (at least 20)

– involves planning and initiation on your part

• At least three instances of each of the 7 learning outcomes cited in your CAS portfolio.

Bright Futures

• Minimum 100 service hours in high school

• IB - 75 of those will be achieved through CAS

• 9th and 10th Grade Pre-IB does Pre-CAS • You need to strive for 20 to 25 service hours per year in

9th and 10th grades.

Theory of Knowledge

• ToK is the core of the IB experience.• It is experiential - a hands-on experience• It considers perspectives (yours and others)• Analyses the factors that affect one’s thinking• It synthesizes the areas of knowledge (arts, math,

human and natural sciences, ethics, etc.)• At its core ToK gives students the opportunity to

consider what they know and how they know it.

Assessment• Internal Presentation about a TOK Issue

– Will change for May 2021• External Essay: select from 1 of 10 prescribed titles

to write a 1,200-1,500 word essay

Extended Essay

• begins fall of the junior year• complete January of senior year• Students ask a research question to guide their

research on a selected topic• 4,000 word independent research paper (not a

report!)• Includes 3 mandatory reflection meetings

Honor Code• Taken very seriously• Discipline Referrals are included in

the Honor Code• Everyone signs ones• Any student guilty of plagiarism,

collusion, misrepresentation of work, cheating in any manner on class work or tests, will be subject to the Honor Policy.

• In the case of Honor Code Violation of official IB Internal and External assessments, IB will not accept any work and the student may not earn the IB DP Diploma
