Recommendations:

1) The exterior has surface rust due to coating flaking off. I recommend

sand blasting all to a commercial finish SSPC-SP6 or NACE 3.

Recommendations:

2) The 4” overflow pipe is undersized and will not discharge excess water

fast enough to prevent damage to roof. I recommend replacing using a

steel 6” pipe that will continue to ground and over a concrete splash

pad. Also, screen with flapper valve over end of pipe needs to be

installed to prevent insects and animals from entering tank.

Recommendations:

3) Do not use interior ladder, it is unsafe due to metal loss. Also, ladder

should have never been installed from center of roof to shell due to not

allowing climber to get on and off safely.

I recommend replacing ladder and installing a 2nd roof man-way above

ladder on shell. Ladder will need to be welded 5’ off shell wall so it will

line up with man-way.

Recommendations:

4) The interior coating has failed with wide spread rust and metal loss and

at some point was coated over top of with food wax. Food wax should

not be used on interior of tanks due to not being a long-term method of

repair and very costly to remove. I recommend removing all wax before

sandblasting to a near white finish. (SSPC SP10 or NACE 2)

Recommendations:

5) The roof ladder is unsafe due to cell communication wiring being

installed in its climbing path. Also, ladder is not welded every 10’to roof

surface and does not have a safety climb device. I recommend installing

another roof ladder that is OSHA approved and equipped with safety

climb device for fall protection. Leave old ladder for wiring.

6) The ladder that runs between ground and catwalk needs a cable type

safety climb installed for fall protection.

7) The handrail on catwalk is 36” tall and not an OSHA approved

designed. I recommend raising to 42” and installing an OSHA approved

self-closing safety gate over ladder opening.

Recommendations:

8) The water level gauge no longer works due to poor design and metal

loss. Also, the track system needs to be replaced due to allowing insects

to enter where it is connected to roof. I recommend installing a complete

cable type gauge using stainless steel hardware and cables. Also, float

needs to be made of non-corrosive material.

9) The man-way on riser pipe at ground level needs to be replaced to due

being under sized. I recommend installing a 24”man-way with

“confined space signs”.
